A hero son who tackled an alleged home invader on his father's property next door was allegedly stabbed multiple times while fighting the man off.
Giuseppe Andreula, 50, is being praised for his bravery after going to his elderly father's aid on Sunday night.
Salvatore Andreula, 84, had gone outside his Ridley Street property in Albion, in Melbourne 's west, when he was allegedly confronted by an unknown assailant.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said when Salvatore went to investigate, he encountered an unknown man armed with a knife.
'The offender allegedly demanded the 84-year-old's car keys and punched the elderly victim in the face when he refused,' the spokesperson said.
'At that point, the victim's 50-year-old son, who lives next door, heard the commotion and ran to the property.'
The terrifying incident happened just after 8pm, stunning neighbours along the quiet street.
CCTV footage from a neighbouring property showed the moment police arrived at the Albion home.
'Stop it, let him go,' an officer could be heard yelling out in footage obtained by the Herald Sun.
'Let him go? He's a f***ing animal,' a voice could be heard declaring off camera.
The alleged attacker, who is yet to be identified, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
He is being kept under police guard as to detectives wait to interview and charge him once he is well enough.
Ridley Street resident Josh Anderson, who has lived on the street for 15 years, praised Giuseppe's actions.
'Pretty brave,' he told reporters.
'You never know what you've got to do in that situation until you're faced with it, but when someone comes into your house, you should be able to defend yourself.'
Another neighbour described Giuseppe as a gentle soul.
'Fantastic - he's that type of a guy but he wouldn't hurt a fly,' he said.
Other neighbours claimed they had heard terrifying screams coming from inside their neighbour's home.
'I heard the words 'killing me' and just called triple-0 straight away,' a man told reporters.
The incident follows a string of home invasions which prompted Libertarian Party MP David Limbrick to announce he would propose strengthening Victoria's self-defence laws to better protect residents.
'At the moment, in Victoria, there's some exemptions for self-defence in your home,' he said.

Four children aged between 11 and 13 arrested for ‘fatally mowing down woman, 71, in stolen car'

Four children between the ages of 11 and 13 have been arrested for after allegedly stealing a car and fatally mowing down an elderly woman before fleeing the scene. Cecilia De Astis, 71, was walking in Milan on Monday when she was hit by a Citroën and thrown into the air. The car then crashed into a road sign before the perpetrators fled on foot from the scene. Three boys and one girl, aged between 11 and 13, have been taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated vehicular homicide due to their failure to assist the elderly woman. Italian media reports that the suspected driver is 13. In Italian law, children below the age of 14 are not criminally liable. The Juvenile Prosecutor's Office is currently handling the case, but if the suspects are confirmed to be under 14, they will be deemed ineligible for prosecution. Ms De Astis was leaving the 'House of Solidarity' of the Brothers of St. Francis, where she had been invited for lunch, before her death, La Stampa reports. She was crossing Via Saponaro when she was struck by the Citroën, which was allegedly stolen from a French man the day before and had a French licence plate. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly afterwards but could not save her despite their best efforts. Ms De Astis' sons, Gaetano and Filippo, reportedly arrived at the scene of her death shortly after and collected her remaining belongings. The woman was described in Italian media as having a passion for travel and a dedication to her family. She had dinner with her sons on the night before her death, according to La Stampa. Ms De Astis originally hailed from Ruvo di Puglia in southeastern Italy but moved nearly 1,000km north west to Milan, where she built a new life with her husband, who died around 15 years ago. She worked at the Cederna cotton mill for more than 30 years, but left shortly before the factory's closure in 2020. The death has also sparked political reaction in Italy, with the right-wing populist Northern League calling for the parents to be 'severely punished', according to Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Ex-footy player learns his fate after being busted in lewd moment with a naked woman at famous Melbourne tourist attraction

A former Collingwood, Richmond and Western Bulldogs star has been fined $1,000 after he was caught in a compromising position in his underwear, alongside a naked woman behind a set of beach boxes on the Mornington Peninsula. Aaron James, aged 48, pleaded guilty to behaving indecently in public during a visit to Dromana on March 8, 2025. Mr James, who made 54 appearances in the AFL between 1994 and 2002, appeared in Frankston Magistrates Court via a link from remand to answer the charge. The court heard that officers had found the 48-year-old behind the beach cabins wearing just his underwear. Members of the public had alerted the cops to the incident after they spotted him with a naked woman. The court heard a summary of the events recorded by the police, in which officers stated Mr James was seen applying a liquid from a green bottle onto the naked woman. The woman had been kneeling on all fours on the sand, the court heard. In another part of the summary, which was read in court, police say Mr James was seen thrusting his hips at the woman. The court was told that his penis was also said to have been exposed. Mr James was drafted to play for Collingwood in the 1993 AFL draft as pick No 35. The footy star was a mere 17 years old when he made his debut in 1994 during a game against Hawthorn. He'd make 23 appearances for the Magpies, becoming a regular face in the team in 1995, before struggling for game time the following season. He'd leave the club in 1997 and joined up with Richmond, making 30 appearances across four seasons. Injuries again plagued his time at Punt Road, with the footy star going on to nominate himself for the 2001 AFL Draft where he was snapped up by the Western Bulldogs, but only made one appearance for the club. It would turn out to be his final AFL appearance. He would go on to play local footy for Gisborne, Lalor and Albion in later years - where he kicked over 100 goals in one season. Magistrate David Starvaggi had also looked to finalise several other charges Mr James was facing during the hearing. Some had included alleged offences committed between November 2024 and May 2025, which had related to drugs and driving. But the Magistrate had believed the video link would expire before the matters could be addressed and chose to adjourn the matters until a hearing next week. Mr James has been charged with the possession methyl amphetamine as well as theft. He is also facing charges in relation to driving offences. Mr James was arrested in May following a statewide manhunt after he had failed to show up in court.
