Award-winning Irish film Girls & Boys released next month
The trailer for Galway Film Fleadh winner Girls & Boys has been released ahead of the arrival of the "quietly radical romantic comedy" in cinemas next month. Winner of the Best Independent Irish Film award at the Galway Film Fleadh, Girls & Boys is written and directed by Donncha Gilmore and stars newcomers Liath Hannon and Adam Lunnon-Collery. It tells the story "of rugby player Jace (Adam Lunnon-Collery) meeting aspiring filmmaker Charlie (Liath Hannon) at a college party". "Both attend Trinity, but their worlds couldn't be more different - Charlie is trans, her circle full of queer artists and creatives, while Jace sticks with the more strait-laced camaraderie of his rugby teammates," the synopsis continues. "When the party is suddenly shut down by the Guards, the two find themselves alone in the streets of nighttime Dublin. "As they wander the city, sharing secrets, dreams, and fears about life after college, a surprising revelation from their shared past threatens to upend their fragile connection. "Jace must confront not only his past, but the social identity he's long taken for granted." " Girls & Boys was created with the theatrical experience in mind, we wanted to take an intimate story and make it cinematic, so we're so excited to bring the film to the big screen this September," said writer-director Gilmore. Released on Friday 19 September, Girls & Boys is produced by Gearóid Gilmore with backing from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.
