Both teams advanced from their groups in the lucrative seven-a-side event in Estoril and it was United who set up a final against Bayern Munich later on Friday thanks to goals from Melvine Malard and Gabby George.
Malard opened the scoring in only the fourth minute with a terrific volley into the top corner that gave Khiara Keating no chance.

Keating was a key last line of defence for City in the remainder of the first half, though, denying Grace Clinton and Malard again with fine saves.
United kept up the pressure at the start of the second period of 15 minutes and Clinton hit the bar before George made sure of the victory with a near-post finish.
Earlier, Bayern swept to a 5-0 victory over Paris St Germain, with Momoko Tanikawa scoring twice and Sarah Zadrazil, Maria Plattner and Jovana Damnjanovic once each.

Man Utd sent transfer message by £40m target: 'I'm happy with my choice'

Manchester United have been sent a fresh transfer message (Picture: Getty) Manchester United-linked Zion Suzuki has opened up about his future as the talented goalkeeper continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils came close to wrapping up a deal for Suzuki in 2023, even agreeing a fee with the young 'keeper's then club Urawa Red Diamonds. But Andre Onana completed a move from Inter Milan to United that same summer and Suzuki opted to join Belgian outfit Sint-Truidense VV instead, fearing for his playing time at Old Trafford. Now playing for Italian side Parma, Suzuki enjoyed a stellar first season in Serie A to help his side stave off the threat of relegation. But such was his form that several top European clubs, including United, were linked with a move for the £40m-rated keeper this summer. However, Suzuki hinted that his immediate future remains with Parma as he looks to build on his impressive performances from his debut camapaign. 'I know there were a lot of rumours about me, but I'm totally focused on Parma and preparing to start the season well,' he told Tuttomercatoweb. Zion Suzuki has regularly been linked with a move to United (Picture: Getty) 'Parma made me a fantastic offer, so I immediately decided to accept and join this club. Last year was an opportunity to grow, and I'm really happy with my choice.' Asked to reflect upon his first season in Italy and his goals for the upcoming season, the Japanese international added: 'In the end, we achieved our goal, which was to stay in Serie A. 'I've grown a lot, and it was a good season. It taught me the importance of preparation, because only if you train well and in a certain way can you perform well. The calls for United to sign a new keeper only grew louder after Altay Bayindir's mistake against Arsenal (Picture: Getty) 'First of all, I want to reduce the number of goals conceded, because last season we conceded a lot. 'That's my first personal goal, then as a team, we want to raise the bar and not just fight for survival.' More Trending United, meanwhile, are still without a convincing first-choice keeper, and the calls for the Red Devils to sign a replacement only grew louder after Altay Bayindir's error against Arsenal on the Premier League's opening weekend. Ruben Amorim's side have been linked with moves for Emi Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma, but the United boss appeared to suggest that he is happy with his current trio of Bayindir, Andre Onana and Tom Heaton. 'We prove today that we can win any game in the Premier League especially against team like Arsenal,' Amorim said. 'I'm happy with the players. I'm happy with the three goalkeepers.' Man Utd reject FIVE offers for Harry Maguire as he admits plans for next career step

Manchester United turned away several approaches for Harry Maguire this summer as Ruben Amorim felt his squad was 'starved of leaders" - and the defender plans to go into coaching once his playing career is over Harry Maguire insists it would be 'silly' to quit Manchester United - and is eyeing a long-term role at Old Trafford. ‌ England defender Maguire, 32, is a deep thinker on the game and has ambitions to move into coaching as his next career move. United had FIVE cast iron approaches to sign Maguire this summer but they were all knocked back and the centre-half was determined to stay at Old Trafford. ‌ Maguire is highly thought of by the United hierarchy and Ruben Amorim triggered a one-year contract extension option because his squad was 'starved of leaders.' Maguire is determined to carry on playing, ideally wants another two years at Old Trafford and United blocked approaches this summer because they wanted to keep the loyal defender. ‌ Ex-Leicester defender Maguire hinted at his long-term ambitions to stay in the game and also believes United are on the right path this season under Amorim. Maguire said: 'I'm sure over the next few months we'll have to have a conversation about where we want to go and if they want to extend. 'Obviously, I have something in my mind about what I want to do and where I want to be. I don't want to put it out there to everybody but it's an amazing club to play for and you'd be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could. ‌ 'The hierarchy has come in, with [technical director] Jason [Wilcox] and the manager, and I feel like they're taking it in the right direction. "Since I started six years ago to now, it's in a completely different place in terms of the structure behind the management staff. We're in a good place. A lot better place.' ‌ Maguire joined United in 2019, has been a loyal servant and won trophies as well as establishing himself as a leader at the club with real potential to stay in the game. He is intelligent, a mentor for young players and that is why he is being identified as having coaching potential. That must be a reason why Maguire - who signed a one-year extension last season - revealed that United dismissed any enquiries for him this summer. Maguire added: 'Last year, the clause was in their hands. There was no option for me there. There was no talking. It was just they activated it and it got extended. "I'm pretty sure the club made it clear this summer that I can't leave on any terms. A a couple of clubs enquired and I think they got a quick response.'

Man Utd receive new transfer statement after £40m links: 'A fantastic offer'

Zion Suzuki was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this summer, and the 22-year-old has now opened up on his future amid recent transfer links Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has said he is totally focused on his current club, despite links with Manchester United. Earlier this year, talkSPORT reported that the Red Devils were stepping up their scouting of the £40million-rated stopper. ‌ The Japan international impressed for a team fighting against the drop in Italy's Serie A last term. He featured 37 times in all competitions for Parma and was instrumental in their battle to avoid relegation. ‌ United had reached an agreement with Urawa Red Diamonds to secure Suzuki's permanent signature in summer of 2023, reports the Manchester Evening News. But he turned down the switch and instead moved to Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden on a temporary deal. ‌ The keeper has now addressed the previous 'rumours' as United continue to struggle between the sticks, with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both enduring difficult spells at Old Trafford. "I know there were a lot of rumours about me, but I'm totally focused on Parma and preparing to start the season well," he told Tuttomercatoweb. "Parma made me a fantastic offer, so I immediately decided to accept and join this club. Last year was an opportunity to grow, and I'm really happy with my choice." ‌ Referring to his first season in Italy, he added: 'In the end, we achieved our goal, which was to stay in Serie A. I've grown a lot, and it was a good season. "It taught me the importance of preparation, because only if you train well and in a certain way can you perform well. First of all, I want to reduce the number of goals conceded, because last season we conceded a lot. "That's my first personal goal, then as a team, we want to raise the bar and not just fight for survival.' ‌ The goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford was back under the microscope on the opening weekend of the season, after Amorim decided to not use first-choice Onana against Arsenal. Instead, Bayindir was named in the starting XI and was at fault for the set-piece goal which cost them a point after an encouraging performance. ‌ The United boss had the perfect opportunity to quash any potential headlines, considering Onana had missed much of the pre-season with injury. But he went out of his way to confirm the Cameroonian was fit to play and simply not selected. He said: "We try to choose the best players for each game, so next week is a different life. This week, we chose these players. No (he is not injured), he's recovered but the other guys did so well during pre-season, so I need to balance that."
