Just over a century ago, the world's most iconic fragrance was born. The year was 1921, and Chanel N°5 was 'a woman's perfume, with the scent of a woman', according to
Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel . It was also the first perfume the legendary French couturier released. Five was her lucky number.

Just over a decade later, Coco Chanel launched her first and only high jewellery collection. The year was 1932, and
Bijoux de Diamants was born out of the designer's desire to, as she put it, 'cover women in constellations'. Chanel's choice of gemstone could be considered radical in the midst of the Great Depression. 'If I have chosen diamonds, it is because they represent the greatest value in the smallest volume,' she explained, highlighting the emphasis she placed on considerations of practicality as well as aesthetics.

In 2021, Chanel debuted Collection N°5, the first high jewellery collection inspired by a perfume. The highlight of the collection is the 55.55 necklace, showcasing a 55.55-carat diamond, its custom octagonal cut mirroring that of a N°5 bottle stopper.

Today, the necklace is part of Chanel's legendary Patrimoine archive – a collection of historical and contemporary watches and fine jewellery pieces housed at 18 Place Vendôme
in Paris

Traditions continue to be preserved as well in the perfume bottles themselves. Each N°5 bottle is sealed with a baudruche: a delicate natural film secured with two strands of black pearl cotton thread and a wax stamp bearing the
Chanel double-C logo . Besides being beautiful, the seal protects the fragrance by ensuring the bottle is watertight.

Style Edit: Chanel's new ready-to-wear collection, shot in Paris

Back in March, guests entering Paris' iconic Grand Palais for the Chanel autumn/winter 2025 collection were met with a set shaped around a black ribbon – both a sign of things to come and an homage to one of the house's many enduring codes. This stylish motif was celebrated and re-envisaged throughout the runway alongside other recognisable signatures, from classic pearls to iconic tweed. Now, a few months on, the luxury maison's newly unveiled autumn/winter ready-to-wear campaign pays homage to the rich DNA showcased in the collection, with a stunning set of images by acclaimed Swedish fashion photographer Mikael Jansson. Paris itself is the backdrop for the unveiling of the Chanel autumn/winter 2025 ready-to-wear collection. Photo: Handout Advertisement Paris – the city in which Chanel was founded – becomes the runway as model du jour Mona Tougaard traverses its most familiar backdrops, from bustling cafes and cobblestone pavements, to streets of historic Haussmannian facades and even its most popular landmark, the Eiffel Tower. The campaign's cinematic feel, and the contemporary mix of black-and-white and rich colour only add to the allure. Model Mona Tougaard assumes a confident air. Photo: Handout Tougaard strikes a knowing pose in looks that celebrate all the familiar brand codes, from bows to chains. Tweed takes on various forms, from shimmering versions on a matching dress and jacket, to an edgy deconstructed black tweed cape, and a rock chick-inspired ensemble featuring a golden three-piece skirt suit with a contrasting braid, layered over trousers. Swedish fashion photographer Mikael Jansson shot Tougaard striding around the quintessential Parisian streets. Photo: Handout Accessories shine with recognisable details that still feel modern and fresh. For example, Coco Chanel's favourite jewellery – a string of pearls – takes on new dimensions. Supersized strands are layered around the neck or transformed into a wearable objet d'art – a stylish cross-body bag. Sautoir necklaces made from strass or beads cascade across the torso to add movement and sparkle. Bold accessories underscore the assured feel. Photo: Handout Ankle boots are adorned with velvet bows or feature a surprising detail – a gobstopper-sized pearl-shaped heel, finished with the double C logo. Gloves in leather or tweed add a cultured vibe. Versatile bags, mini or maxi, are worn over the shoulder or held in the hand in styles running from the everyday to a glamorous, elongated, metallic gold purse. Like the clothes she wears, Tougaard embodies a multifaceted femininity that is quintessentially Chanel: ranging from rock chic to romantic, but always powerful.

Japanese idol Kenshin Kamimura convicted for molesting interpreter in Hong Kong

Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura has been convicted for molesting an interpreter working with him during a fan event in Hong Kong earlier this year. West Kowloon Court on Wednesday found that Kamimura, 26, assaulted the woman by patting and stroking her thigh at a Mong Kok restaurant on March 2. He was fined HK$15,000 (US$1,910). The presiding magistrate dismissed the defence's allegations targeting the prosecution witness' credibility and ruled the Japanese star could not have genuinely believed that the woman consented to his advances. Kamimura, who was expelled from the Japanese boy band ONE N' ONLY because of the case, originally came to the city alongside actor Junsei Motojima to attend a fan meeting at Regala Skycity Hotel on March 1. The two celebrities and their assistants celebrated the event's success at Ming Kee Restaurant in Mong Kok later that night.
