Chiefs potential Super Bowl celebrations will not feature public rally following 2024 mass shooting: report
The Kansas City Chiefs are pursuing history next weekend when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. A victory will make the Chiefs the only NFL team in league history to ever win the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy in three straight seasons.
However, if that does happen, celebrations involving fans will potentially look different from years past.
Sources told FOX 4 that officials have decided against hosting a public rally following last year's mass shooting that left one person dead and dozens of others injured when several people opened gunfire at the rally on Feb. 12, 2024.
According to the report, plans include a celebration at Arrowhead Stadium for only players, families and some local and state officials. Players will then move to Crown Center, where they will gather for the parade route – which has been designed to minimize crowd density.
The decision follows a meeting held Thursday which was attended by head of the Kansas City sports commission Kathy Nelson. Fox News Digital contacted Nelson and the Chiefs for comment.
During last year's Super Bowl where the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to become back-to-back champions, a mass shooting erupted at the Chiefs' rally in downtown Kansas City. The parade drew in an estimated 1 million people.
Police said the shooting happened when one group of people confronted another for staring at them. Officials said 12 people brandished firearms and at least six fired those guns. Prosecutors added that some of the guns recovered from the scene included at least two AR-15-style rifles.
Several individuals were charged.
Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local radio host and mother of two, was killed in the gunfire. Officials at the time said around two dozen more were injured.

However, New York might have found itself a huge steal in landing Justin Fields. Fields went 4-2 while running the offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. He was replaced by Russell Wilson, who took over and led the team to a playoff berth and a first-round exit. Still, while Mike Tomlin chose to use Wilson, Fields proved that he can lead a team. The Jets also have some young and dynamic playmakers in Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, and Mason Taylor. On paper, the Jets are a more improved team, but time will tell if they can truly climb out of the basement of the AFC. World Cup host city organizers acknowledge immigration crackdown may impact next year's tournament
NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia's host city executive for the 2026 World Cup says organizers accept that an immigration crackdown by President Donald Trump's administration may be among the outside events that impact next year's tournament. 'There are certainly things that are happening at the national level, the international level, there are going to be geopolitical issues that we don't even know right now that are going affect the tournament next year, so we recognize that we're planning within uncertainty,' Meg Kane said Monday at a gathering of the 11 U.S. host city leaders, one year and two days ahead of the tournament opener. The World Cup will be played at 16 stadiums in the U.S., Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19 next year, a tournament expanded to 48 nations and 104 games. All matches from the quarterfinals on will be in the U.S., with the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. 'Whether it's the Olympics, whether it's a World Cup, whether it's a Super Bowl, you name it, anytime you've got a major international sporting event, geopolitics is going to have a role,' said Alex Vasry, CEO of the New York/New Jersey host committee. Kane said the host committees must adapt to decisions made by others. 'One of the things that I think we all recognize is that we have to be really good at operating within that uncertainty,' Kane said. 'I think for each of our cities, we want to be prepared to make any person that is coming and makes the decision to come to the United States or come to this World Cup feel that they are welcome. We do not play a role necessarily in what is happening in terms of the decisions that are made.' Trump's travel ban on citizens from 12 countries exempted athletes, coaches, staff and relatives while not mentioning fans. 'We allow for FIFA to continue having constructive conversations with the administrations around visas, around workforce, around tourism,' Kane said. FIFA is running the World Cup for the first time without a local organizing committee in the host nation. 'Certainly we were not involved in the planning or the logistics for that particular match,' said Alina Hudak, CEO of the Miami World Cup host committee. He always knows where to go with the ball, doesn't take unnecessary sacks, and is a good decision-maker. He's one of the purest throwers in the sport. He makes some of the darndest throws as far as accuracy that you'll see from anybody on the whole list. The ability to drop back and put a ball in a tight window 25 yards down the field is incredible. We all threw it on Stroud for the step back [compared to his rookie season] last season, but I would say it was anything but that. Was he perfect? No. Did he have some down moments? Sure, but I think a lot of those down moments were more that the team wasn't doing well so he had to try and make things happen. I have no problem with his decision-making, which is really good.' No. 8: Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers 'He's in the conversation for best pocket passer in the game. If things are all equal – the pocket is fine, somebody is open, and you need to hit a 25-yard throw on the money, Justin Herbert is on the short list of quarterbacks in the NFL that you're going to take. That is where he is amazing. When it comes to size and skill, he maybe plays bigger than any quarterback in the sport. He can run but this leads us into the negative…He doesn't do it enough. His backyard football part of the game has to improve. This is not 1988 anymore, you can't just say that you're going to be a pocket passer all day long.' No. 9: Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 'He's a pocket passer with a rocket arm and he's about as aggressive a quarterback in football right now. That's what's awesome about Baker Mayfield. He sees the field really well and for a guy that's not real big, the ability to hang in the pocket and throw high-level down-the-field type of throws with ease is as impressive as it gets. He's got every type of club you need in the world as a thrower. He can do all of that. Are there times where I think he reaches back and throws it too hard or reaches back for more and loses his control of the football? I think I've said that in years past. I still think that happens to him from time to time. But all in all, this is one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the game right now.' No. 10: Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles 'The Super Bowl champ, the Super Bowl MVP. Really kind of an incredible year when you really think about it. The ultimate leader, that's the first thing I'll say. He's tough, he's the same guy all the time. He can handle the Philadelphia criticism good or bad and seems to take it all in stride. He brings a skillset to [the Eagles'] offense that makes them almost indefensible with all the talent they have.
