Alden Richards reveals the struggle few ever knew
U
nbeknownst to many, while Alden Richards continued to shine on-screen, host prime-time shows, and flash his signature bedimpled smile, he was quietly enduring a darkness that no camera nor fan ever caught.
In a rare and raw moment during his interview with GMA Integrated News — meant to promote Stars On The Floor, the biggest celebrity dance competition on television — the conversation took an unexpected turn.
What began as light and cheerful soon opened a door into the heart of a man who had long kept his battles hidden.
'I think last year, that was my lowest year,' Alden confessed, the weight of his words settling heavily in the room.
The reason? He suspects it has something to do with his own nature of being 'over-generous' to others and far too little to himself.
'Just to validate everything that's happening in my life right now — that was the reason. Kung meron pang mas mababa sa rock bottom, I was there,' he said.
'Yung times kasi na you're clouded with a lot of negative thoughts, andyan yung mga taong nagmamahal sa 'yo pero hindi mo ma-proseso nang tama 'yung pag-iisip mo. It's very hard to be present… yung nandito ka pero wala ka dito.'
He was at height of his success, but inside, he was slowly breaking.
T
hen came the loss of his grandfather in January. It was the final blow, and Alden found himself slipping further into something he now dares to name.
'It took me six months to get over that. Hindi man siya clinically diagnosed, pero that was depression, at its finest. That was depression. Ang galing nga, hindi lang halata,' he said.
Alden said he couldn't bear to talk about it. 'Before kasi, hindi ko siya kayang pag-usapan. Hirap ako, ayokong magpakita ng weakness.'
In all my years of sitting down with Alden — interview after interview, countless backstage chit-chats, project after project — this moment stood out.
It was the first time I didn't just hear him. I felt him. There was no celebrity veneer. No filter. Just a man learning, unlearning, and finally choosing to show up for himself.
H
is sudden turn to fitness soon made it to his socials. In March, we learned about his running, the following month, about Alden's biking. Alden's every move now stems from one deeply personal mission: Self-love.
Alden is no longer driven by image or approval. He now runs to breathe, bikes to clear his mind, and embraces stillness to reconnect with his own heart.
And when the inevitable question came — about his love life, or the absence of it — he answers not with hesitation, but with conviction.
'I don't understand. Hindi ko gets kung bakit ganoon ang mindset natin na ang basis ng kasiyahan ng isang tao,' he said, challenging the idea that romantic love is the only path to happiness.
'It's my story. It's how I want my story to be told… not based on the presumption of some people. I'm so done with that. I've been there long enough. I've done so much for the industry, and I'd like to do more for the industry right now.'
This is not just a return to form. It's a return to self.
Hosting "Stars On The Floor" marks a new chapter—not just in Alden's career, but in his healing. And in this moment, more than ever, the nation's beloved leading man reminds us that real strength is not in the spotlight… but in the courage to face the darkness, and step forward anyway. — LA, GMA Integrated News

Alexie Brooks opens up on relationship with girlfriend: ‘I'm grateful everyday na she's there to make me happy'
Alexie Brooks opened up about her relationship with her girlfriend, giving a glimpse into her personal life. In an interview with Boy Abunda in "Cayetano in Action with Boy Abunda" on June 1, the Miss Eco International 2025 queen revealed that she's been in a relationship for almost a year now. Alexie gently corrected Tito Boy when he asked her how important 'this man' was to her concept of happiness. 'I'll change the 'man.' I'll rephrase. The woman,' the beauty queen said. So Tito Boy asked her again, 'How important is that woman to your concept of happiness?' 'Very important, Tito. I realized it when my grandma passed away and she was there. And that was the first time that I caught myself down on the floor. And she helped me get out of the floor. I didn't eat for a few days, she didn't eat for a few days,' Alexie said. She added that during that time, her girlfriend made sure that she was OK. 'I think that tells so much about how much she cares for me, how much she loves me. I'm grateful everyday na she's there to make me happy and supporting me in the dreams that I want,' Alexie said. Alexie had always been vocal about her androgynous identity and how she embraces fluidity in both style and relationships. 'And I feel like it's better if you don't put yourself a limit into what you can, you know, expression mo sa sarili mo. And it's so much better. I'm happier. I'm comfortable and I feel confident and I don't think—there's nothing wrong with that,' she said. Alexie was crowned Miss Eco International 2025 last April at the Hilton Green Plaza in Alexandria, Egypt. —Carby Rose Basina/CDC, GMA Integrated News

Red Sternberg was planning to return to the Philippines for a highly anticipated 'T.G.I.S.' reunion project, his co-stars revealed. In Friday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,' Michael Flores, Bobby Andrews, and Angelu de Leon honored and remembered the late actor. 'Plano niyang bumalik dito. Plano nga niyang mag-artista ulit eh. Gusto nga niyang mag-artista daw ulit eh,' Michael said. According to Michael, Red even sought advice from him and Bobby on who to approach regarding management for his return to acting. ''Pag naging OK baka mag-stay muna sila dito for a while kung OK 'yung magiging outcome. And then, 'yun nga, mag-ce-celebrate pa kami ng 30 years namin. Anniversary ng 'T.G.I.S.' So talagang sobrang excited siya to the point na nag-workout siya, nag-diet siya,' Michael said. He also revealed that a 'T.G.I.S.' reunion project had already been planned. 'Kaya masakit nga eh. Kasi nga 'yung pag-uwi niya rito, meron talaga kaming pinaplanong reunion project. Hindi pa namin puwedeng sabihin in details pero meron na talaga. Kasi matagal na 'yan eh,' Michael said, acknowledging their fans' constant requests. Bobby added, 'Ayos na lahat ng logistics, lahat ng ano, everything. And that was the reason why he was so excited to come home.' When asked what they realized following Red's passing, Angelu said that 'time is fleeting. And you really don't know what will happen tomorrow.' For Bobby, Red's passing is a 'wake up call,' noting that they're not that young anymore, so they must value the time they have left. Michael remembered that life is indeed not short and nothing is permanent. 'Sabi nga nila, 'di ba, hiram lang naman 'tong buhay natin eh,' he said. Red passed away on May 27 at 50 years old, three days before his birthday on May 30. His wife, Sandy Sternberg, said that he died due to a heart attack, according to "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on Friday. The 'T.G.I.S.' barkada mourned Red's passing with social media posts and messages. "T.G.I.S." was a popular youth-oriented afternoon weekly show that ran on GMA Network. It premiered on August 12, 1995 and had more than 200 episodes, plus a spin-off film "T.G.I.S.: The Movie" that premiered in 1997.
