Authorities issue warning against illegal animal slaughter
Authorities in Abu Dhabi are urging residents to use licensed abattoirs during the Eid Al Adha holidays and reduce health risks linked to contaminated meat.
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) highlighted that licensed abattoirs follow strict hygiene and safety standards, allowing only trained butchers to carry out slaughter following Islamic practices. This includes proper animal handling, prayer recitation and accurate cutting — critical for both religious observance and meat quality.
They also follow proper waste management and safely dispose meat that's unsafe.

Healthcare innovation: How drones are transforming medicine delivery in Saudi
Image credit: Getty Images The healthcare system in Saudi Arabia has announced the successful pilot launch of a drone-based medicine delivery service between primary healthcare centers and hospitals in the holy sites. Read- This marks a significant milestone as a first-of-its-kind initiative. The project aims to enhance the efficiency of healthcare services provided to pilgrims during the 1446 Hajj season, The achievement was made possible through active collaboration between the Makkah Health Cluster and the National Unified Procurement Company (NUPCO), which jointly ensured the supply of medicines and medical equipment to the holy sites using drones. Purpose of the initiative The initiative is designed to accelerate response times and support healthcare operations by delivering medicines and medical supplies during Hajj. In one key instance, Mina Emergency Hospital received a drone delivery of ice packs used to treat heat exhaustion and sunstroke, as part of intensified preparedness efforts coinciding with the start of the stoning ritual on the first day of Eid Al-Adha. Drone-based delivery service: How the process works The drone-based delivery service follows a multi-phase process starting with preparation, including determining quantities and coordinating with healthcare facilities. The next phase involves packaging using advanced technology, in line with Saudi Food and Drug Authority regulations. Medical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory items are then processed, issued, and delivered to healthcare locations across the holy sites. The final phases include transport scheduling and real-time tracking via a central monitoring dashboard to ensure smooth operations. The initiative aligns with the healthcare system's commitment to creating a safe and healthy environment that enables pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and comfort. It also reflects ongoing efforts to deliver world-class healthcare services in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Organised by medical staff, volunteers and support teams, the event featured face painting, games and the distribution of Eid gifts to patients and their families. The initiative aimed to provide psychological support, rehabilitative therapy and lift the spirits of those receiving care aboard the hospital vessel. 'The initiative is a testament to the hospital's humanitarian message to boost morality and happiness for patients and their families onboard of the vessel,' said Dr Omran Mohammed Alefari, director of the UAE floating hospital. 'It is important to provide a comprehensive medical and supportive environment for the patients, especially in such days.' The 100-bed floating hospital set sail from the UAE in February last year and docked in Al Arish port in Egypt as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. Docked at the Egyptian port of Al Arish, it receives patients through the Rafah border crossing and is part of the broader humanitarian effort ordered by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed - serving as a lifeline for Palestinians affected by the conflict. Its humanitarian efforts are part of the UAE's mission to ease the suffering of the injured and sick amid the dire circumstances faced by Palestinians in Gaza. The hospital has provided medical services to thousands of patients since the launch of its services for Palestinian people. It has also performed more than 3,600 surgical procedures across specialities, provided physical therapy services to approximately 9,500 cases and fitted 23 prosthetic limbs for patients. The hospital was established by the UAE's Ministry of Defence, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Ports Authority group, and includes about 100 medical and administrative staff specialising in anaesthesia, general surgery, orthopaedics and emergency services.
