Video of SP's late-night darshan at Coimbatore temple sparks row over Agama rules
While the Lord Shiva devotees have been up in arms about the incident since the video went viral on Tuesday and sought the HR&CE department officials to take action against the staff member, the department officials have clarified that the SP visited the shrine before the temple was closed.
One of the devotees staged a sit-in on Wednesday seeking action against the HR&CE officials.
The Shiva devotees alleged that the temple staff member took the police officer inside the shrine at 9.10 pm on Sunday and it is a violation of 'Agama Vidhi' (the temple's rituals and practices prescribed in the Agama scriptures), as the temple closes at 9 pm.
A devotee, who took the video, alleged that the temple staff were favouring higher officials and not the common devotees.
Responding to this, a senior HR&CE official told TNIE that the temple staff member took the police officer inside the shrine at 8.50 pm and the timing claimed by the Shivan devotees is wrong.
However, a group of Shiva devotees on Wednesday submitted a petition to the district administration seeking to take action against the officials of Perur Patteeswarar Temple along with the staff member in this regard.
'The temple is closed at 9 pm. The entrance door was slightly opened to give way to the priest to come out. However, using this space, the staff member took the police officer inside and facilitated worship in violation of 'Agama Vidhi' which is not acceptable,' said A V Manickavasagam, heading a group of Shiva devotees, who submitted the petition at the collectorate.
Manickavasagam claimed that the devotee who took the video on his mobile phone has clear evidence that the staff member took the police officer inside the temple at 9.10 pm.

BHOPAL: A major heist at a bank by five helmet wearing men has stunned the police establishment in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The heist by the five men, one of whom had a firearm tucked under his belt, reportedly happened within just 18 minutes on Monday morning at the ESAF Small Finance Bank in Khitola area of rural Jabalpur. The 18 minutes incident led to the robbing of around 14 kg gold and Rs 5 lakh cash – totalling over Rs 10 crore. The early morning robbery which was caught on the CCTV cameras, happened at the bank, which didn't have a security guard. Five to six staffers were present in the bank at the time of the robbery by the five men, who came on motorcycles. Surprisingly, the incident was informed to the local police by the bank staffers, around 45 minutes after the robbery. As per police sources, the police are working on various angles in the case, including possibility of any insider involvement, as it seems that the robbers were well aware of the lack of security there. The concerned bank gave loans against mortgaged gold. The bank usually starts operations daily at 10.30 am, but due to the festive season, it is currently opening daily between 8 am and 9 am. Primary investigations have revealed that the robbers entered the bank one by one and threatened to shoot the staffers if they interrupted the robbery.

Chhattisgarh police officer faces social boycott over marriage, HC reprimands community
RAIPUR: A distressed Chhattisgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mekhlendra Pratap Singh facing social boycott from his own community for marrying a woman of his choice, lodged an FIR in his home town Bilaspur claiming that his marriage was performed as per the social tradition. Singh, 35, who hailed from 'Satgarh Tanwar' community (Scheduled Tribe), is posted in Kanker district where he is engaged in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations. He claimed his wife too is from the same tribal caste. The community leaders however got further antagonised after the case was registered against them and approached the high court filing a petition that the FIR was lodged on baseless ground. They also alleged before the court of being harassed by the police with repeated notices served to them. 'Chhattisgarh high court has rebuked the community leaders warning them not to act like a Khap panchayat and dismissed their petition. But the community leaders remain adamant to continue their diktat and my entire family is socially ostracised. They are now threatening us to impose heavy punitive fine', the DSP told TNIE while sharing his mental agony.

Dharmasthala burial case: SIT to search for possible human remains at spot 13 as GPR arrives
MANGALURU: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Dharmasthala mass burial case will search for any possible human remains at the alleged burial site no 13 by deploying the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). A GPR demo was done on Monday, and a search will be conducted tomorrow. An officer associated with the SIT told TNIE that GPR arrived in Belthangady on Monday and the same technology will be used to detect possible human remains below the ground. So far, SIT has dug up 15 sites shown by the whistleblower in the case and found human remains in only one site - spot 6. A skull and other human skeletal remains were found on the surface of a site close to spot 11 which is now marked as spot 14. There was delay in exhumation process at spot 13 due to presence of a dam, multiple electricity lines and proximity of the spot to the main road.
