LANZAJET WINS REUTERS GLOBAL ENERGY TRANSITION AWARD FOR ACCELERATING DECARBONIZATION
CHICAGO, June 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- LanzaJet, Inc., a leading next-gen fuels technology company and producer of sustainable fuels, today announced that it has been named the winner of the Accelerating Decarbonization award in the Technologies of Change category at the Reuters Global Energy Transition Awards 2025. The award was presented during the Global Energy Transition Summit in New York.
This prestigious honor recognizes LanzaJet's pioneering Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) technology, which converts low-carbon ethanol into drop-in, certified SAF. The technology is globally scalable and commercially viable, offering an immediate and tangible solution to decarbonize aviation, one of the most difficult sectors to abate.
"We're honored to receive this recognition from Reuters, which highlights the role innovation must play in solving the toughest climate challenges," said Jimmy Samartzis, Chief Executive Officer of LanzaJet. "Aviation needs real, scalable solutions today, not decades from now, and our ATJ technology was designed to meet that moment. This award reflects the extraordinary work of our team and partners around the world who are committed to accelerating SAF as a cornerstone of the global energy transition."
LanzaJet® ATJ technology plays a critical role in supporting the global aviation industry's goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The technology has already been implemented at the LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Soperton, Georgia, the world's first commercial demonstration ethanol-to-SAF plant, and is being deployed globally with partners across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The Reuters Global Energy Transition Awards were created to recognize and celebrate those driving bold, scalable solutions that are accelerating the world's shift to a low-carbon energy system. The Accelerating Decarbonization award specifically honors technologies that demonstrate measurable impact on CO₂ emissions reduction and offer commercial scalability.

AI Daily: Big Tech AI push seen spiking electricity bills

AI PUSH: Just a few years ago, tech companies were minor players in energy, but are now changing the face of the U.S. power industry and are morphing into some of the sector's most dominant players, Ivan Penn and Karen Weise of The New York Times reports. With the rise of AI, tech companies are becoming even more involved in the sector, with Amazon (AMZN) CEO Andy Jassy recently noting the 'single biggest constraint' of AI is power. The AI boom, however, threatens to increase power bills for residents and small businesses across the country since data centers will require expensive upgrades to the electric grid. Other big tech companies in the sector include Microsoft (MSFT), Meta (META), and Google (GOOGL). AI POLICIES: Two Republican U.S. senators are calling for a congressional investigation into Meta after Reuters reported on an internal policy document that permitted the company's chatbots to 'engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual,' Jody Godoy reports. Meta confirmed the document's authenticity, but says it removed portions which stated it is permissible for chatbots to flirt and engage in romantic roleplay with children after receiving questions earlier this month from Reuters. INTEL STAKE: The Trump administration is considering using funds from the Chips Act to take a stake in Intel (INTC), Joe Deaux, Ryan Gould, Mackenzie Hawkins and Josh Wingrove of Bloomberg report, citing people familiar with the discussions. The government is in talks to use Chips Act funding to at least partially finance an equity stake in Intel, and it is unclear if this would involve converting Intel's existing Chips Act grants into equity or allocating new funding, sources told Bloomberg.

Fitch cuts Spirit Airlines' rating further into junk territory
(Reuters) -Fitch Ratings on Friday downgraded Spirit Airlines long-term credit rating to 'CCC-' from 'CCC+', citing a high likelihood of near-term default. "The downgrade reflects the heightened possibility that Spirit may be unable to avoid a default given its ongoing operating losses and declining liquidity," Fitch said in its report. The move follows Spirit's warning earlier this week about 'going concern' risks, just months after the carrier emerged from bankruptcy. The airline's operations have been strained by weak domestic demand and shrinking cash reserves. In its quarterly report Monday, Spirit said elevated domestic capacity and softer leisure travel demand in the second quarter have created a tough pricing environment, further pressuring results.
