Formed by Preeti Tiwari, Simran Kashyap and Gauri Sharma, Trilay showcased the gharana's evolution, from its devotional origins in temple courtyards and village gatherings to its transformation into the pride of the Nawabs' royal courts. Written and directed by Salman Khayal, the production was enriched with dastangoi performed by theatre artists Abhishek Singh and Mini Dixit, who brought narrative depth to the performance.
The evening unfolded with a seamless blend of dance, music and expression, highlighting the subtle grace, etiquette and delicacy that distinguish the Lucknow style. The recital featured 'rubaai' and 'vilambit laya' compositions, alongside emotive renditions of the Kajri 'Kankar Mohe Laag Jahiye Na Re' and the Thumri 'Kaun Des Gayo Saawariya'. The musical canvas was adorned by tabla maestro Vikas Mishra, lyricist Prakhar Pandey and sarangi virtuoso Zeeshan Abbas.
Enhancing the stage further was a magnificent 150-meter backdrop depicting Nawabi architecture, painted by Vivekanand, a Fine Arts student at Lucknow University, along with Sanjeev, Aryan, Aastha and Suraj from a private college in the city.
Writer Jyoti Sinha said, "This programme beautifully promotes our shared heritage and the Ganga Jamuni tehzeeb, keeping Lucknow's cultural spirit alive." Social worker Shivalika Acharya said, "The harmony of dancers, storytellers and musicians created magic on stage." Dignitaries such as artist, Anil Rastogi and Kathak guru, Akanksha Srivastava were present .

Vivek Agnihotri 'will take legal course' if The Bengal Files release is not allowed in West Bengal: 'If they stop us...'

Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri on Monday said he would go the legal route if the release of his film The Bengal Files is stalled in West Bengal. Vivek Agnihotri's film, The Bengal Files, is slated to release in September. The trailer launch of the film in Kolkata was disrupted on Saturday. Agnihotri claimed the event was first cancelled by a multiplex and then moved to a hotel where power supply was disrupted and police turned up asking if permission had been taken. "We will go by the Constitution. We will go legally. If they stop us, we will take the legal course. What can we do? We are common citizens like you… We will pray that sanity prevails and the state government does not do it (stop the release),' the filmmaker said at a press conference here while hitting out at the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal. The Bengal Files, which is slated for release on September 5, revolves around the Calcutta riots of August 16, 1946, which were triggered after the All-India Muslim League called for Direct Action Day to demand a separate homeland. 'This is an Indian film. I am telling you the truth," Agnihotri said. Known for films such as The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files, Agnihotri also addressed the many controversies surrounding his latest release, including an FIR by Gopal Chandra Mukherjee's grandson, Santanu Mukherjee. Gopal Mukherjee is said to have played a pivotal role in the resistance against the Muslim mob violence in 1946. Santanu claims Agnihotri's film refers to his grandfather as a butcher. Agnihotri said Gopal Mukherjee in his film is an inspired character and not central to the plot. "I will not go into his history. Watch Santanu's interview. I can give you all the links. There is an interview of Gopal Mukherjee on BBC. In that interview, what he has said, we have only shown that much. I have nothing to do with Gopal Mukherjee's life, politics. He was a hero, and I have shown him as a hero," he said. "I respect Gopal Mukherjee a lot. His grandsons work with TMC. There is a compulsion there… They have done it legally. We are giving a legal answer to that," he said. Agnihotri claimed the film is his attempt to reveal hidden truths. He said he aims at showing "the untold stories of India". 'Our purpose is very clear. I make films on Hindu civilization. That is why I make films on Hindu history. I do not consider myself capable of making films on Islamic history or Christian history," he said, adding that filmmakers like Mani Ratnam and Vishal Bhardwaj have already made movies on the Islamic history of Kashmir through "Roja" and "Haider". Agnihotri said the censor board passed The Bengal Files without any cuts though it went through the examining committee and then the revising committee. "This film was made with a lot of responsibility and sincerity. No one can object to this. Bengalis will be proud of this film." The Bengal Files stars Mithun Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Priyanshu Chatterjee, and Darshan Kumar.

Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place top picks for filmmakers under Delhi Film Policy

New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) Nearly 95 per cent of movies filmed in the national capital are shot at Chandni Chowk and Connaught Place, according to a DTTDC official who hopes the Delhi Film Policy, introduced in 2022, will encourage more filmmakers to cinematically explore the historic landmarks of the city. Since its launch, around 39 films and web series have been shot under the policy framework till 2025, according to the official from Delhi Transport and Tourism Development Corporation, which looks after the policy. Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Kesari 2" was filmed across Red Fort, Sunder Nursery, and Delhi University's North Campus and Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani" showcased the leafy lanes of Chittaranjan Park in South Delhi, and the upcoming third installment is also expected to feature key portions of the city, he added. Not only films but popular web series, be it 'Special Ops" or 'Paatal Lok", also had many portions set in Delhi. Under the policy, about 20 applications are expected to be accepted for film shooting permissions through its e-Film Clearance portal in 2025-26. In 2024-25, the portal received 10 applications. At least 15 of the new applications are likely to be cleared within 30 days. Plans are also underway to link the e-Film Clearance system with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's India Cine Hub. Publicity material will be rolled out to raise awareness about the initiative, as per the official. The Delhi Film Policy 2022 also established Delhi Film Fund for branding Delhi as a tourist destination. Under the Rs five crore Dilli Film Fund, two applications have been received for performance-based funding. Incentives will also be extended to members of the film support staff, with the final amount to be decided by a designated committee, the official said. With its mix of heritage, modern infrastructure, and a growing support system, Delhi is steadily carving out its place as a sought-after film destination, the official added.
