Saskatoon police issue 345 tickets during two day enforcement program

Saskatoon police have wrapped up the two-day Saskatchewan Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), issuing 345 tickets and 114 warnings to drivers.
Police say on Tuesday and Wednesday officers were stationed around Saskatoon targeting road safety initiatives including vehicle equipment regulations, car seat checks, commercial vehicle inspections, and traffic safety violations.
According to Saskatoon police, 98 drivers were caught for distracted driving, predominantly for using a cell phone, four vehicles were impounded for being driven under the influence of cocaine and cannabis.
When it comes to commercial vehicle inspections, police say it resulted in 16 vehicles requiring further assessment, and 15 being removed from the road and deemed out of service.
Two speeding drivers were also caught, with one driver travelling 111km/hr in a 60km/hr zone on Attridge Drive.
STEP is a multi-agency task force with the goal of improving traffic safety in Saskatchewan. Various law enforcement agencies converged on the Saskatoon area to conduct sobriety checkpoints, vehicle inspections, and other traffic safety initiatives.
