Being the child of a Bollywood star comes with its own set of advantages and challenges, and being the son of two popular actors can definitely be complicated. Son of actors Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, Prateik, had an unconventional upbringing after his mother passed away in childbirth and he grew up with his maternal grandparents. In a recent interview, the actor shared that 'spiritually', one chooses their parents and so by that logic, he chose this life, and he chose his mother.
In a chat shared on Varinder Chawla's YouTube channel, he said, 'Well, I chose this life and this battle. I chose a mother that would leave, and it's because I wanted these hardships. The reason I wanted those hardships was because, I went through multiple lifetimes making mistakes. This could be the life where I chose my mother and before coming here we made a deal that we live this life together but the deal was 'no, you die, I suffer, I go through these hardships only because I don't want to come back here again. We don't want to do this again so I feel like I am clearing all my karma in this lifetime.'
Prateik continued to speak about his spiritual connection with his late mother and said that he just wants to be united with her in the afterlife. 'The reason I chose this is because I don't want to come back. I just want to finish everything. Give me all the obstacles that exist in this lifetime because I don't want to come back in my next birth. In my next birth, I just want to party with my mom and my grandparents. I know my mother and my grandparents are waiting at the end of this life,' he said.

Prateik, in an earlier interview, shared that watching his late mother's films had an adverse affect on him. 'I was angry all the time, and I was filled with rage. I remember watching the television, and one of my mother's movies was playing. I was angry that she wasn't there with me, and I picked up the TV and broke it. I even took a baseball bat to all the pictures in the house,' he told Zoom.
Pratiek now writes his name as 'Prateik Smita Patil' in honour of his late mother.
