We don't want to do this again so I feel like I am clearing all my karma in this lifetime.' ‘I know my mom Smita Patil is waiting for me at the end of this life, don't want to come back in next life,' says Prateik
Being the child of a Bollywood star comes with its own set of advantages and challenges, and being the son of two popular actors can definitely be complicated. Son of actors Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, Prateik, had an unconventional upbringing after his mother passed away in childbirth and he grew up with his maternal grandparents. In a recent interview, the actor shared that 'spiritually', one chooses their parents and so by that logic, he chose this life, and he chose his mother. In a chat shared on Varinder Chawla's YouTube channel, he said, 'Well, I chose this life and this battle. I chose a mother that would leave, and it's because I wanted these hardships. Sharing the same, he said, 'In my first film, my name was Prateik Babbar and then the devil got the better of me and I started thinking 'Kaun hai maa? Kaun hai baap? (Who is mom? Who is dad?)' Then I started thinking, 'I don't want to be Patil, I don't want to be Babbar. I want to be just Prateik'.' Prateik further shared that he was bitter about his parents and hence the decision to go without any surname came. He added that he didn't wanted to belong to them. The actor shared, 'They have only given me trauma my entire life. I don't want to belong to them and then I continued with Prateik.' The actor also opened up on the reason behind changing his name to Prateik Smita Patil and revealed that it was his wife Priya Banerjee who suggested this name. He revealed she asked him to honor his late mother and actress who sacrificed her life for him. Prateik shared that after adding her name to his, he feels complete now. For the unversed, Smita Patil lost her life just two weeks after giving birth to Prateik. She passed away after suffering from childbirth complications. On the professional front, Prateik Smita Patil made his Bollywood debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008.
