Leeds win Championship title on goal difference, Luton relegated
Leeds United edged out Burnley to win the second-tier Championship title on goal difference after both teams finished the season with 100 points as Luton Town suffered a second straight relegation on Saturday.
On a frantic final day, Leeds found themselves trailing Plymouth Argyle early in the game through a Sam Byram own goal but Wilfried Gnonto levelled eight minutes into the second half.
With Burnley leading Milwall, Leeds desperately needed a winner and it was Tottenham Hotpsur loanee Manor Solomon who popped up with a goal in added time to give Leeds a 2-1 victory that also relegated Plymouth.
Burnley beat Milwall 3-1 but lost out on the title due to Leeds' superior goal difference.
Both Leeds and Burnley had sealed promotion to the Premier League last month with a guaranteed top-two finish.
Sheffield United finished third with 90 points after a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers, who ended seventh and missed out on the last playoff spot by two points.
In the playoffs, Sheffield United will take on Bristol City, who finished sixth with 68 points while fourth-placed Sunderland (76 points) take on Frank Lampard's Coventry City (fifth with 69 points).
The two-legged playoffs will be held between May 8-13 and the final is on May 24.
At the bottom of the table, Luton became only the fourth club in history to suffer back-to-back relegations from the Premier League.
They were playing in the top flight only a year ago but will start next season in League One.
Luton will be joined in the third tier by Cardiff City, who finished bottom after a 4-2 defeat by Norwich City.
Norwich and Cardiff were being managed by former Arsenal team mates Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey after both took interim charge of their respective clubs last month.

Enzo Maresca's side beat Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League match to clinch fourth place after an inconsistent campaign, ending a two-season absence from Europe's top competition. The Blues, who reached Fifa's revamped and expanded Club World Cup by landing a second Champions League triumph in 2021, have been handed a favourable opening raft of fixtures in the United States. They begin their campaign in Group D on June 16 against Los Angeles FC, who battled through a play-off round against Club America to replace the disqualified Club Leon. After that opening fixture in Atlanta, Chelsea head north to face Brazilian team Flamengo (June 20) and Tunisia's Esperance (June 24), both in Philadelphia. 'We face formations from distant countries, with which there is no relationship (with us) like the other Premier teams or in Europe,' Maresca said. 'We prepare ourselves by trying to watch as many matches as possible of the opponents, analysing them in the smallest detail. In the knock-out rounds, potential clashes against Bayern Munich and Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain may lie ahead. There will be special interest in how new Chelsea signing Liam Delap fares after his recent move from relegated Ipswich Town. It is a dream come true for Matheus Cunha to move to Manchester United from Wolverhampton Wanderers. It is almost like he has been playing at Old Trafford for years. A day after United completed the signing of Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the dynamic forward said he grew up in the Brazilian beach city of Joao Pessoa dreaming of one day playing for the club. 'It is hard to find a way to explain this club to me,' the 26-year-old told United's in-house media. 'My house didn't have the channel to watch the Premier League. My cousin's house didn't have the channel. 'Only in my grandma's house, we can watch the Premier League, so we organised to go every weekend. And for me, it was always a bit inside of me, this club. When I play with (my cousin) in the street, on the beach, on the gravel pitch, we called these pitches 'Old Trafford'. Imagine. 'So, wow, it's so hard to be here now, thinking about the past – it's very emotional for me.' Cunha scored 15 Premier League goals for Wolves last season. He also helped Brazil qualify for the 2026 World Cup earlier this week, setting up the only goal in a decisive 1-0 win at home to Paraguay. His move to Manchester raised some eyebrows after United finished a woeful 15th in the Premier League under new co-owners Ineos and failed to qualify for any European football next season. But he said the club and its former stars had left a lasting impression. 'It's hard to talk about because I remember the whole squad at the time that I started to watch,' he said. 'In the front, (Wayne) Rooney, wow. Someone that I think I have a lot of particulars in my game, because I always give everything. 'I remember he was the No. 10 and everyone loved the skills of the player in his shirt, but he brings more. He goes to the grass (slide tackle) to take the ball, this kind of energy inside of him was a big example. '(Cristiano) Ronaldo, everyone knows, it is easy to talk about him. Ryan Giggs. Everyone. I can imagine the team, it started with (Edwin) van der Sar in the goal, Rio Ferdinand, (Nemanja) Vidic, the defenders, Paul Scholes, wow, (Michael) Carrick. The team for me, honestly, was a big impact for my teenage years.' Looking ahead, Cunha says he is determined to help the Red Devils bounce back from their worst league season in 51 years. 'For me, no one else is like United,' he added. 'Of course, I know it's been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me and what I believe this club can be. MANCHESTER, England - Matheus Cunha says he is determined to help Manchester United bounce back from their worst league season in 51 years after becoming the club's first major signing of the transfer window. The 20-time English champions are undergoing a rebuild under Ruben Amorim after limping home 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to fellow strugglers Tottenham. Defeat in Bilbao cost them Champions League qualification, meaning United will spend a first season without European football since 2014/15. But the Red Devils' issues did not deter Brazil international Cunha, who completed his £62.5 million (S$108 million) switch from Wolves on June 12. 'It is the most common phrase that you can say at this moment, but this is the dream come true,' the 26-year-old told MUTV. 'Maybe outside, I think maybe my decision, they don't understand. But when you have always dreamed to play here, it's easier to pick this decision. 'For me, no one else is like United. Of course, I know it's been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me and what I believe this club can be. 'And, of course, I'll do everything that I can to manage this inside of me, to play for my dream team and put my dream team to win.' Cunha followed United growing up and spoke of his admiration for Wayne Rooney, along with many other members of the triumphant 2008 Champions League side. The Red Devils have tumbled out of Europe's elite in recent years but the forward has lofty ambitions. 'I don't think we have one player who comes here and then doesn't think about the glory days in Man United,' Cunha said. 'To remember all the times that they win the Premier League, how many titles it was, and of course to qualify for the Champions League. This is what I think about United, you know to put this club on top. 'Then what I can do is everything to show them I'm here to help the team, to conquer these kind of things.' Cunha scored 17 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season, winning the Premier League club's players' player of the year award. He will add his predatory instincts and creative guile to a United attack that struggled throughout this season. The striker helped his country qualify for the World Cup earlier this week when he set up the only goal for Vinicius Junior in a 1-0 win over Paraguay.
