Ithuba Holdings, the temporary National Lottery licence holder, has taken action to correct misleading information about the transition to its new lottery system, which begins on June 1.

Ithuba Holdings (RF) (Pty) Ltd, the officially appointed temporary licence holder of the National Lottery, has taken proactive steps to clarify several misleading statements regarding the transition to its new lottery operating system that is set to take effect on June 1.
These statements come in light of claims made in a recent news article.
The company asserts that their transition has been executed efficiently and in accordance with the established transition plan, crediting the process as one of the most effective system transitions in both local and global lottery operations.
'Our transition has featured a seamless integration across all major banking partners, including FNB, Capitec, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Absa, and others. Additionally, the new system boasts full functionality across mobile and telecom networks, with major players like MTN and Vodacom fully onboard," Ithuba said in a statement.
Furthermore, Ithuba reported that all e-commerce platforms, including the National Lottery website, mobile app, and USSD services, are fully operational, serving over 250,000 devices nationwide.
While acknowledging that isolated technical adjustments were necessary at specific retail sites, a standard aspect of any large-scale technological transition, Ithuba emphasised that these incidents were logged, monitored, and promptly addressed by trained field teams.
'We extend our sincere appreciation to our National Lottery partners—retailers, technical vendors, banking institutions, and telecom networks—whose support has been critical in allowing South Africans to continue enjoying their favourite lottery games during this significant transition,' the company stated.

In response to concerns raised by retailers, Ithuba maintains that reports of countrywide outages or pervasive failures are exaggerated.
The company has reiterated its commitment to providing retailer support and ensuring technical teams are consistently available to offer on-the-ground assistance.
Addressing concerns over software ownership, Ithuba highlighted that the Paytronix Lottery System is Africa's first locally developed and fully certified lottery system, meeting the highest global standards, including ISO and World Lotteries Association (WLA) security certifications.
This innovation positions South Africa at the forefront of lottery technology in the region.
Ithuba took particular issue with insinuations of impropriety linked to family associations within their operations, labelling such claims as speculative and misleading.
'These distract from the significant performance merits of our new system,' they said.
As the interim operator of the National Lottery, Ithuba is committed to making meaningful contributions to good causes across South Africa while upholding the highest standards of responsible gaming.

'I was shocked because I didn't believe it, but I do believe in myself and my craft. This was big in terms of coming from an African tourism point of view. 'It encourages me to push hard in terms of what I'm doing because what I'm doing sometimes is not easy - a husband who cooks in the kitchen encouraging other husbands to get going is not an easy task,' he reflected. 'It just took my motivation and encouraged me to work even harder.' Not only does Sifo feel the weight of responsibility for setting an example, but he believes this accolade also highlights SA's rich potential in the global culinary landscape. 'I think I'm one of the few South Africans who got to show the world that we have talent, and we are people that are pushing boundaries.' Sifo's journey began in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, where his culinary passion was sparked by his mother's kitchen and father's butcheries. The year 2015 marked a seismic shift in the story of South African enterprise. The then appointed Lottery Operator, was the first to be owned and led by a woman. That was a big moment. As a Black female entrepreneur committed to telling Africa's story through its people, its victories, and its integrity, I saw this as more than a business win — it was a symbol of what transformation should look like in South Africa. This leadership didn't just check boxes on a scorecard; it embodied the spirit of empowerment. The visionary headship of the black-woman-led operator steered the National Lottery into a new era defined by innovation, local technological excellence, and profound social impact. Today, that legacy is under threat. The recent appointment of Sizekhaya Holdings as the fourth National Lottery operator is not just disappointing, it is deeply troubling. It challenges the integrity of our procurement processes, undermines genuine gender empowerment, and raises pressing questions about foreign influence and compromised leadership. As Africans, we have long fought to reclaim our narrative. But reclaiming is not enough. We must now protect and own it — and that means ensuring that Africa's progress is authored by its own people. That means calling out tokenism when it disguises itself as transformation. It was disheartening to observe Sizekhaya Holdings' leadership structure seems to be a step backwards. While four women are listed in leadership positions, only two hold executive roles. The others are non-executive directors – titles that sound impressive but wield limited operational power. This performative inclusion dilutes the very progress women like Charmaine Mabuza made. Even more concerning are the glaring red flags surrounding the bidding process itself. How can we discuss a 'clean' tender when key members of the evaluation committee have direct ties to Sizekhaya's major shareholder, Goldrush? One committee member has financial interests linked to the same bidder. These are not mere oversights; they are breaches of trust that demand our immediate attention. Trust is the bedrock of any public institution. Instead of silence from the Ministry, we need transparency. We need accountability. The technology behind the new operator raises serious concerns. Why are we outsourcing such a critical national system to Genlot, a Chinese firm, when it has been proven that we have local capacity to deliver world-class innovation? This isn't just about software – it's about sovereignty. Almost half the National Lottery's revenue could now flow offshore. Is that the cost of ignoring local excellence that we are willing to pay as a nation? As a woman who has built from the ground up, I understand the power of being given a chance — but also the responsibility to honour that opportunity with service, not self-interest. The National Lottery is more than a contract. It is a vehicle for transformation, one that impacts millions of lives. We cannot afford to politicise it or hand it over to interests that do not serve the public good. This moment demands more than frustration. It demands action. The question South Africa must ask is this: Whose interests are we serving now? Because if we do not champion local excellence, we are handing our power away on a silver platter, and history has shown us how that ends. The National Lottery should remain a symbol of our ability to uplift ourselves, not a cautionary tale of how easily progress can be reversed. South Africa is not for sale. And neither is our story. International companies are increasingly turning to SA for a skilled workforce to meet their operational needs. This is according to Cape Town-based offshore recruitment specialist The Legends Agency, which connects global businesses with South African talent. The agency said SA's high unemployment rate, 'world-class' universities and favourable time zone are some of the factors making global employers hire more South Africans. 'In only one year, the company has grown from a R5m-a-year operation into SA's largest independent employer of record firm, generating more thanR120m annually and enabling more than 150 global companies to successfully hire South African talent,' the agency said. 'The business is also a leading recruitment firm in the SA market, where job seekers can find the best roles working for both local and global firms.' The agency said it is working towards reducing unemployment in SA.
