These are the best family-friendly hotels in Dubai, with waterparks, kids' clubs and more

Independent16-02-2025
Whether you're travelling with tots or teens in tow, Dubai is always a treat. Its theme parks, sandy beaches, exhilarating attractions and super-safe environs keep things fun for everyone (and stress levels minimal) – while its hotels are the stuff of family holiday dreams.
In the following properties, the essentials are standard: interconnecting rooms, kids' menus, bottle warmers, staff that dote on children – you name it. The Emirati culture adores little 'uns, so they're entertained and encouraged by innovative kids' clubs, high-quality play areas and even their very own breakfast buffets. You'll enjoy opportunities galore to make memories together, without having to compromise on your holiday must-haves.
There are bargains to be had, too. Children's activities and clubs are often free, while perks might also include kids' meals, attractions tickets and entry to water parks. These are the top family hotels in Dubai – and what to see, do and experience while you're there.
The best family-friendly hotels in Dubai
1. Atlantis, The Palm
Dubai's most famous family-friendly hotel, this vast resort combines a superb kids' club, in-house aquarium and the epic Aquaventure Waterpark – all of which guests can enjoy for free. Thanks to its sheltered location on the Palm, the sandy beach is calm and shallow so ideal for little ones, while the family pool is full of toys and inflatables. Good luck tearing the kids from the activity club: they'll be too busy riding the slides, getting messy in the kitchen, enjoying story time in The Snug and battling in the Gaming Station. There's even a state-of-the-art Imagination Room, for sensory play with sand, light and colour.
2. Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort
Kids rule the roost at this low-rise resort on the Palm. Its accommodation is centred around three lagoon-style swimming pools, which feature sandy 'beaches' and sun lounger service – ideal for ultra-safe bucket-and-spade fun. Rooms are huge, and the real beach is just a few steps away too, with calm water and a watersports centre; its kayaking, windsurfing and paddle boarding are a big hit with older kids. Bravo for the free activity club, which engages tots and teens alike – while the spa offers treatments designed for young guests, such as mini massages and colourful mani-pedis.
Address: East Crescent, Palm, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
3. JA Lake View Hotel
Horse riding, tennis lessons, mini golf, archery sessions: this hotel is ideal for families with a taste of adventure. Its free water park features slides, soaker buckets and racing tubes galore, while the creche and kids' club cater from ages 4 months to 12 years. It's part of the JA The Resort complex, which features three hotels: you'll have access to all eight of its swimming pools (some of which are exclusively for families), and its 21 restaurants and bars. 20 minutes' drive south from Dubai Marina, the resort features a sheltered private beach too: the ideal spot for windsurfing, paddleboarding and sailing lessons, or trying a PADI-certified diving session together.
4. Lapita, Dubai Parks and Resorts, Autograph Collection
The kids have got the stamina for this trip – but do you? Lapita is slap-bang in Dubai Parks and Resorts, just a few minutes' walk from the UAE 's top theme parks: LEGOLAND Water Park, LEGOLAND Dubai, Motiongate Dubai, Riverland Dubai and Real Madrid World Dubai. But this isn't just a convenient place to kip: the hotel is styled as a Polynesian utopia, where you can float down the lazy river, snooze in island-inspired rooms and try Tiki food at Kalea restaurant. All stays include access to the parks, as well as the energetic kids' club – so you can snatch a well-deserved spa treatment or two.
5. Rixos The Palm Dubai Hotel & Suites
All the food, drink and activities you could wish for: that's what's in store at this fly-and-flop gem. The Rixos is all-inclusive, so everyone can indulge – whether you're sipping sunset mojitos or the kids want another ice cream. Families are welcomed with open arms, and the twin Deluxe rooms (with two double beds) are gigantic. As well as the free Rixy Kids Club – which hosts cooking classes, treasure hunts, magic shows and more – the youngsters will love the painting classes on the beach, movie screenings in the Rixinema and shows in the children's amphitheatre.
Address: Plot 40 East Crescent, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
6. The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina
With its splash pads, wave pool and lazy river, the waterpark at this beachfront resort is a water babes' dream – and features slides and racers for all ages. While the kids will enjoy the free activity club, this hotel is all about creating memories together: whether you're playing beach volleyball, going kayaking for the first time, or just playing around in the pool. In true Dubai style, the rooms are vast: an entry-level Deluxe comes with a choice of one king-size or two queen-size beds, with plenty of space for playtime too.
7. Bab Al Shams, a Rare Finds Desert Resort
At first glance, this desert resort looks like an ancient Arabian palace – albeit with three pools, a huge kids' club and four restaurants. It is 45 minutes from the city, out in the desert: the ideal setting for safari drives, stargazing with the in-house astronomer and fat-bike trips into the dunes. Every stay includes a free falconry experience and camel ride tour too, which is suitable for all ages. And while you hit the spa or relax at the pool, the kids can join the activity club's craft workshops, face-painting and outdoor play – all for free.
8. Legoland Dubai Resort
Adventure, Kingdom, Pirate, Friends or Ninjago? That's the choice of themed 'Lego-built' rooms at this family hotel, which is just a few steps from the theme park. The digs are huge, sleeping at least five people – with separate areas for kids' and adults' beds – and are packed with toys and treasure hunts that the little ones will love. Every stay includes free access to Legoland Theme Park and Water Park (one park per day), and meals at Bricks Family Restaurant – whose kids' breakfast buffet is served at their level. When you're not whizzing around the parks, you can make a splash at the resort pool and explore the castle-themed play area with a Lego-filled moat.
9. Damani Lodges
Take a break from the city with a break in Hatta – an 80-minute drive away, in the foothills of the Hajar mountains. It's in the emirate of Dubai yet feels blissfully far from the bustle, with cycling trails, a honey bee garden, ancient forts and fresh air aplenty. The cabins at Damani Lodge are all self-contained, with room for up to four guests and panoramic mountain views from their huge balconies – and you'll also have free access to 18 adventure activities at the on-site Wadi Hub activity centre. Take your pick from axe throwing, the giant swing, archery, ziplines and more, and cosy up around your private firepit with free wood and charcoal.
10. Jumeirah Beach Hotel
As if the golden-sand beach, five swimming pools and unlimited access to its top-rated kids' club weren't enough, Jumeirah Beach Hotel grants its guests free entry to the Wild Wadi Waterpark – where kids can splash, swim and squeal on rides and slides for all ages. Back on dry land, they can choose from a vast array of complimentary activities at the hotel, from face painting and dance classes to the underwater-themed soft play zone. Meanwhile you'll appreciate the little in-room extras – such as free sunhats, cuddly toys and games.

UAE passports can now be renewed one year in advance instead of six months

The United Arab Emirates has issued an important update to its passport rules. Starting Monday August 18, Emirati citizens will now be able to renew their UAE passports up to a year in advance of the expiry date. This important update means that UAE citizens will no longer have to wait until six months before their passport is due to expire to renew. The change was announced on Thursday August 14, by the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs and Port Security (ICP). It will allow Emirati citizens greater freedom when it comes to planning trips abroad, completing transactions and broadening the use of official digital documents, as currently many services are restricted if your passport is due to expire in six months. The ICP says that the extension of the renewal period will be a significant boost to the passport issuance and renewal system and serve as a pioneering model for other countries in the region and across the world. The change in policy is part of the UAE's Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, which aims to cut red tape and save people time. The UAE passport is considered one of the world's most powerful as it allows holders to jet off to 184 countries and territories without the hassle of pre-arranging a visa. A UAE passport is not an easy one to get, however, as you need to be an Emirati national. While it is possible for foreigners to acquire Emirati nationality, only a very select few will qualify. Categories of foreigners who can be nominated for UAE citizenship include: Investors Doctors Specialists Inventors Scientists Intellectuals Individuals with creative talents These categories were outlined in the UAE Government's 2001 amendment to the Executive Regulation of the Citizenship and Passports Law. If you are a dependent wife of an Emirati citizen, you may also qualify for a UAE passport. And, finally, if you are a newborn baby (and what newborn baby isn't reading this?) of UAE citizens, then you can also get a UAE passport. Famous Dubai restaurants: 13 iconic dining spots everyone should visit

New to Dubai? Welcome to a city where the restaurants are shinier than your passport stamp and brunch is basically a competitive sport. Whether you're here for a few days or settling in for good, there are some places you just have to try – even if they're a little touristy. Now don't get us wrong… we're all about the cool underrated non-tourist trap spots in the city, but sometimes when you go to Dubai, you want to go to Dubai. We're talking truffle-topped pizzas in a place with Burj Khalifa views, shawarma served at 3am on Sheikh Zayed Road post-clubbing and, of course, brunch. No elaboration needed. So get hungry, charge your phone (you're going to want photos) and let us guide you through the must-hit restaurants every Dubai first-timer needs to tick off. 1) Arabian Tea House Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Arabian Teahouse Of course, we had to start with Arabian Tea House – the ultimate Dubai rite of passage. Tucked away in the historic Al Fahidi district, this charming courtyard café is all white rattan chairs, swaying curtains and laid-back vibes. Come for the tea (there are loads), stay for the delicious Emirati breakfasts, tanoor bread and Arabic coffee with serious kick. Since 1997, it's been a peaceful escape for celebs, locals and first-timers alike. Whether you're refuelling after a culture walk or just want somewhere to sip in style – this is heritage with heart (and very good hummus). Read more about Arabian Tea House: 27 years later, this Al Fahidi café is still one of the best in Dubai Unlicensed. Bastakiya opposite the Musalla Post Office, Al Fahidi Street, (04 353 5071). 2) at Burj Khalifa Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Atmosphere You're in the Burj Khalifa – need we say more? Whether you're there for breakfast in the clouds or golden hour bubbly with skyline views, is pure Dubai drama. Sure, it's a bit touristy, but there's something iconic about sipping a cappuccino while hovering 122 floors above the city. Dress up, book ahead, and soak it all in. It's the kind of place where every table has a camera out – and honestly, who can blame them? Read more about Atmosphere: You can have a three-course meal at the Burj Khalifa for Dhs165 Licensed. Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai, (04 888 3828). 3) Barasti Famous Dubai restaurants (and bars) you have to try. Credit: Barasti. Opening in its original form in 1995, Barasti is the city's original beach club, bar and pub, all in one. And it's still one of the most popular. Though when it opened, Barasti was far from the sprawling venue it is today. Back in the '90s, it was a swimming pool beside the beach with a hut where live musicians would play acoustic sets by the sunset. Today, the beach bar is open every day and attracts people from all walks of life. If you're looking for a laid-back bar to wear your flip-flops (or heels), Barasti is your go-to. Here's a history lesson: 13 old photos of Barasti from 1995 until today that will blow your mind Licensed. Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, Al Sufouh Road (04 318 1313). 4) Bubbalicious Brunch Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Bubbalicious One of the biggest and best buffet brunches in Dubai, Bubbalicious is an absolutely massive Saturday afternoon food-filled extravaganza. Sprawling out across three restaurants and a large outdoor terrace, this is one for the Dubai bucket list. Famed for its huge spread of food, it's excellent quality, especially given the scale of it. Whether you want freshly shucked oysters and a slap-up roast dinner, stir-fries made in front of you, fragrant curries or fish and chips, you're in the right place. Or if you just want to go all out at the cheese station, well, we wouldn't persuade you otherwise. There are plenty of drinks stations, live music, entertainment for the kids and more. All bases are covered at Bubbalicious. More brunch? Best buffet brunches to try in Dubai Licensed. The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, Al Sufouh. 5) Bu Qtair Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Bu Qtair. Bu Qtair, to the uninitiated, may not look like a must-visit dining destination in Dubai but looks can be deceiving. Glitz and glamour are certainly off the menu at this fairly basic eatery, but turn up for a bite to eat and you will join a lengthy queue full of hungry hordes who know all about Bu Qtair's reputation for seafood excellence. The price depends on the type of fish and how much your order is, but satisfaction is pretty much guaranteed to follow, regardless of what you get. The family-run venue first opened in the early 1980s and is located just off Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour. Try it for yourself. You'll be hooked. Unlicensed. Fishing Harbour 2, Umm Suqeim, Dubai (055 705 2130). 6) Orfali Bros. Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Orfali Bros Bistro Consistently excellent, Orfali Bros Bistro is renowned as one of the best and most well-known Middle Eastern restaurants in Dubai. Helmed by celebrity chef Mohamad Orfali and his siblings Wassim and Omar, the menu here is fresh, fusion and with plenty to talk about, with the Orfali bayildi, umami éclair and OB croquettes being just three of the incredible creations that are in store. Having been named the best Middle Eastern restaurant in the city multiple times by Time Out Dubai, it's an eatery that needs to be visited by anyone visiting or moving to this city. Read our review of Orfali Bros here Unlicensed. Wasl 51, Jumeirah, (04 259 2477). 7) Ravi Restaurant Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Ravis A rite of passage wrapped in foil and dripping with flavour. Ravi's is a Satwa legend – the kind of place where the tables are plastic, the biryani is always steaming, and everyone from taxi drivers to celebrities queues up for a taste. It's loud, a little chaotic, and completely unmissable. Don't overthink it – just order the chicken tikka, daal fry and a stack of hot roti, and tuck in under the neon glow. This is real-deal Dubai, one bite at a time. Unlicensed. Satwa (04 331 5353). 8) Saffron 2.0 Brunch Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Saffron It's iconic. It's rowdy. It's one of the most famous (infamous?) party brunches in Dubai. Saffron Brunch 2.0, as DJs spin chart-topping hits alongside dancers, singers and magicians, with each week playing home to a different theme. Sip on one of Saffron's legendary drinks or take your pick of cuisines from across the globe with more than 220 dishes and 20 live cooking stations to choose from. Licensed. Over 21s. Sat 1pm-4pm. Atlantis The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 426 2626). 9) Salt Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Salt This is what a Dubai beach day tastes like. Salt started as a burger truck on Kite Beach and exploded into a full-blown phenomenon. Today, it's a retro-cool spot with sliders, loaded fries, soft-serve ice cream (lotus flavour, obviously), and that unbeatable ocean view. Locals line up, tourists tag it, and honestly? It lives up to the hype. The food's quick, tasty and hits the spot – especially after a swim or a long beach stroll. Unlicensed. Kite Beach, Um Suqqeim 10) Time Out Market Dubai Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Time Out Market It's not just a food hall – it's the food hall. Time Out Market brings together 17 of Dubai's best homegrown chefs, under one very delicious roof. Whether you're craving ramen, risotto, or a ridiculously good burger, there's something for every palate (and every plus-one). Perched at the end of Souk Al Bahar, it also has front-row seats to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain (when it reopens in October) – a perfect way to explore the best of Dubai without having to drive around. Licensed. Souk Al Bahar, Downtown Dubai 11) URLA Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: URLA There are few places where you'll get a better view of the Burj Khalifa than from Urla at Address Downtown Dubai. With a huge terrace to take a seat on, you'll have a front-row view once the Fountain show starts off the evening, and with the Burj Khalifa front and centre in all its glittering glory, you may well be lost for words. There's also an Aegean menu, crafted mixed drinks and a mellow vibe. An amazing place to impress your visitors, this is one of the best bars with a view in Dubai, without a doubt. Licensed. Address Downtown Dubai, (052 554 5997). 12) Zaroob Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Zaroob Wouldn't be a rite of passage list without Shawarma now, would it? While there are plenty of places to grab this world-famous streetside snack, Zaroob is a Dubai institution, the kind of place where taxi drivers, party people and insomniacs all end up eventually. The shawarma? Wrapped, plated, chicken or beef – it's all on point. Open 24/7, it's earned its stripes as the city's unofficial post-midnight dining room.
