The pair ended up having an intense conversation, prompting Oliveira to take off his glasses
Georgian-born Spaniard Topuria will look to become only the tenth fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes.
Fan favourite Oliveira, meanwhile, will look to reclaim the belt he lost on the scales ahead of his clash with Justin Gaethje in May 2022.
The pair had an unexpected run-in at the UFC Performance Institute on Wednesday, crossing paths at the sauna.
But they got a better chance to size up one another after the pre-fight press conference at the T-Mobile Arena early on Friday morning.

The duo stared intensely in one another's eyes moments after shaking hands.
An intense conversation ensued, so much so that Oliveira took off his glasses as Topuria spoke.
The undefeated Topuria claimed and defended the featherweight title, which he's since relinquished, last year by gunning down MMA legends Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway.
And he plans to become a two-weight world champion in equally as devastating fashion.
He said of the pair's Sin City showdown: "Charles is a great fighter.

Ilia Topuria predicts first-round KO of Charles Oliveira at UFC 317

June 27 - LAS VEGAS -- Ilia Topuria's emergence as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world has propelled him to the biggest stage of his career as he takes on former champion and future Hall of Famer Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title on Saturday night at UFC 317. The bout headlines International Fight Week, which has become the UFC's Super Bowl weekend equivalent since debuting ahead of UFC 148 in 2012. Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are among the stars who have taken part in the week's marquee fight over the years. In McGregor's case, his showmanship leading up to a second-round TKO of Chad Mendes at UFC 189 in 2015 marked one of the defining moments in his rise to mainstream superstardom. It's no secret that the undefeated Topuria, who ranks third on UFC's pound-for-pound list, seeks a similarly defining moment Saturday. The former featherweight champion has been adamant that he believes a stoppage is coming within the first two or three minutes of the fight. Saturday will mark Topuria's return to the lightweight division after he vacated the featherweight belt in April in pursuit of becoming a two-division champion. And best believe Topuria knows what kind of statement knocking out a legend like Oliveira in the first round would make. "(It would say) I'm the best fighter in the world," Topuria said. "It's not about if I'm going to win the belt; I'm going to do it. I'm going to knock him out in the first round ... If you beat legend after legend, you'll eventually become a legend." Topuria won the featherweight belt in February 2024 with a second-round knockout of former champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 before succeeding in his lone title defense against Max Holloway at UFC 308 in October. He has bounced between weight classes throughout his career, having fought professionally at bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight. A significant reason for Topuria's insistence that Saturday's fight will end so early is his respect for the fact Oliveira will be on the attack as soon as the bell rings. In Oliveira's eyes, meanwhile, he sees Topuria joining the long list of opponents who have made empty promises to put him down. "In reality, everyone knows what's going to happen," said the 35-year-old Oliveira, who has not worn the title belt since 2022. "He's another guy talking who's going to fold in front of me. This is something huge. About legacy, about dreams, about how much I'm alive and hungry for it. That's what I am. I'm going to be a champion again." The co-main event features champion Alexandre Pantoja, who is making his fourth flyweight title defense against fourth-ranked Kai Kara-France. Pantoja is currently tied for ninth in the UFC's pound-for-pound fighters ranking. Kara-France previously fought Brandon Moreno for the interim flyweight championship at UFC 277, losing by TKO at 4:34 in the third round. Main Card: --Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveria for the vacant UFC lightweight championship --Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France for the UFC flyweight championship --Brandon Royval vs. Joshua Van --Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano --Payton Talbott vs. Felipe Lima --Will Despart, Field Level Media

When is the Wimbledon draw as Alcaraz and Draper wait to discover opponents

The draw for the men's and women's Wimbledon will take place later this week as defending champions Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova, as well as home favourites Jack Draper, find out their opponents Wimbledon gets underway on Monday with Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova aiming to defend their titles at the All England Club. Their path will become clearer this week when the draw is made. Last year Alcaraz retained his title after seeing off Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev en route. Winning three in a row would put him in a very exclusive group as he looks to back up his French Open success. ‌ There he saw off Jannik Sinner and the Spaniard and the Italian will again be expected to meet in the final, which is made possible by their seeding. Talk of which, Jack Draper, the main British hope, will have his chances enhanced after landing the fourth seed. ‌ It means at Wimbledon he can't play the likes of Alcaraz or Sinner until the semi-finals. Draper will hope to go deep in the tournament, where he'll be roared on by his home crowd. Krejcikova meanwhile claimed her second Grand Slam at Wimbledon last year but returns ranked well outside the world's top ten. The tournament at SW19 is the only Grand Slam that hasn't been dominated by the big three - Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff. None of them have even made the final but will expected to go deep into the tournament. Krejcikova was the 31st seed when she claimed the Wimbledon title last year. The women's draw ended up with only one of the top four seeds in the quarter-finals - that being former champion Elena Rybakina. When is the Wimbledon draw made? This year's Wimbledon draw will take place on Friday June 27. Players are randomly selected and assigned a place in the tournament by a special computer, but without the top 32 seeds. They are added in later to ensure that they cannot meet until later in Wimbledon. The men's and women's singles draw is live from 10am with the doubles draws taking place two hours later. All eyes will of course be on who the home favourites are playing - and who they could face later in the tournament. Katie Boulter and Jodie Burrage will be hoping to make a statement but Emma Raducanu is again the British No 1 as she seeks to regain the form that took her to the US Open title four years ago. Despite some back issues Raducanu maintains she will play at SW19 despite her early exit from the Eastbourne Open. She said: "I think I will step on the court regardless.'

Pep Guardiola hails Man City after impressive win over Juventus

Erling Haaland scored his 300th career goal and Rodri played 66 minutes on his first start since September as City moved through the gears at Orlando's Camping World Stadium on Thursday. City defied intense heat and a later torrential downpour to sweep aside a Juventus team that beat them 2-0 in the Champions League last season. Guardiola's team looked more like the all-conquering outfit they have been for much of the Spaniard's reign rather than the ponderous side that laboured through much of the 2024-25 campaign. The statement victory ensured they won Group G with a 100 per cent record and theoretically secured a more favourable route through a tournament they must now be among the favourites to win. City manager Guardiola said: 'I liked the way we did it. It has been a long time since we had a performance like this on and off the ball. The players were committed and we are happy to beat a top side. 'This is just one game but I think the players felt again what it was like to be a good team. It's the first time we've performed the way we can. 'We won the last two but we adjusted a few things. I'm really pleased because the players realise what we have to do to get back to what we were in the last decade. 'The belief always comes from your performances, not your past.' The loss of Rodri with a serious knee injury for the majority of last season was one of the key reasons for their failure to match the standards of the past. After winning the Premier League for the previous four years, City failed to mount a strong title defence and exited the Champions League before the last 16. His appearance in Orlando represented a notable step up in his comeback after three substitute outings. Rodri played 66 minutes in Orlando (Phelan Ebenhack/AP) Guardiola said: 'Sooner or later Rodri had to start. I said, 'OK, 45 minutes' but at half-time he said he wanted five to 10 minutes more. The game was under control. 'In the last few games we have conceded a lot of transitions but it didn't happen this time. Everyone knows how important Rodri is. He is one of the best players in the world.' City's early opener from Jeremy Doku was cancelled out by Teun Koopmeiners after an Ederson error but a Pierre Kalulu own goal restored the English side's lead. Haaland, Phil Foden and Savinho all struck in the second half as City made victory certain before a Dusan Vlahovic consolation. An electric performance ⚡️@JeremyDoku is your Man of the Match! ✨ — Manchester City (@ManCity) June 26, 2025 Away from the tournament, City midfielder Jack Grealish has not travelled to the United States. Guardiola had little to say on reports linking the England international with Bayern Munich. He said: 'I wish him the best but I don't know what is going to happen.'.
