Turkey's Marmaris tops ranking of cheapest family holiday destinations
Turkey's Marmaris has been ranked the cheapest short-haul holiday destination for UK families. The port city has the lowest prices out of 16 popular locations for a basket of 10 tourist items, Post Office Travel Money said. This included just £67.67 for a three-course meal for two adults and two children with wine and soft drinks. Other low prices included 16p for a 1.5-litre bottle of mineral water from a supermarket, £1.81 for a bottle or can of cola at a cafe or bar, and £2.61 for insect repellent. Post Office Travel Money said the low prices for UK visitors are partly due to a sharp fall in the value of the Turkish lira. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, was found to be the second-cheapest destination, with Portugal's Algarve taking the third spot. Laura Plunkett, head of travel money at Post Office, said: 'The collapse of the lira makes Turkish resorts like Marmaris a natural choice for families. 'However, visitors should be aware that while sterling is worth a third more than last July, local prices have increased dramatically because of the currency's collapse. 'Thankfully, once the positive exchange rate is applied to those local prices, British visitors will only have to pay around 10% more than a year ago, and this increase is much lower than in many other destinations.' The total price for the basket of goods at Marmaris (£128.99) was nearly half the price compared with the most expensive destination analysed, Spain's Ibiza (£242.79). Prices for UK holidaymakers have risen in 13 of the 16 locations. Ms Plunkett added: 'We found big price variations in the destinations surveyed, particularly comparing those in the eurozone. 'For example, prices in the Algarve are almost £100 lower for the same 10 items surveyed than in Ibiza. 'This makes it vitally important for holidaymakers to do their homework and take enough travel money to cover costs in the resort they are visiting.'

You want it too much. Why are you even going to this many fashion events that you're carrying travel, to-go-sized Chanel?'" "I was lucky enough to be asked to sit at the Chanel table," he explained. Destination Vero Beach: Completion of Customs facility means more international flights
VERO BEACH — Travelers flying from out of the country to Vero Beach Regional Airport, can eliminate one stop on the journey now that a United States Customs and Border Protection facility has opened at the airport. Prior to opening, international flights would fly into Treasure Coast International Airport, west of Fort Pierce, register at the Customs office there and take off for Vero Beach. "The facility really cuts down travel times and can make it more enjoyable," said Corporate Air President Rodger Pridgeon. "We've worked on this project since 2019, and it's amazing to see it come to fruition." Corporate Air, a fixed-base operator at the airport, paid for the $3.5 million facility, which is expected to help expand the local economy by 30%, according to the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce. That's based on the experience of similar-size airports nearby: Witham Field in Stuart, Melbourne Orlando International Airport and Boca Raton Airport. "This will drive the hidden economy of private aviation," said Tim Zorc, representative for capital projects at Corporate Air. "That includes hotels, meals, rental cars, fuel and airplane maintenance. We estimate one night in Vero Beach, for someone flying in internationally, could cost $12,000." The Customs facility is next to the Corporate Air headquarters — 3450B Airport W. Drive — on the west side of the airport. Private-public partnership The facility represents the first private-public partnership of its kind, according to state Rep. Robbie Brackett (R-Vero Beach). "It's a public good that is of no cost to the taxpayer," explained Brackett. "The taxpayers saved money, and without the bureaucracy, the project saved so much time." By comparison, it took 15 years for Witham Field to open a Customs facility while it took Vero Beach six. "We couldn't achieve this in such a short time with government funding," said Brackett. "It's really amazing how quickly this came together." Local news: 2 pharmacies deny COVID-19 vaccine to immunocompromised Vero Beach, FL resident School news: New state law means some Treasure Coast high schools likely to continue early start times Pridgeon conceived building a Customs facility in 2019, and hoped to have it operational in November 2021. But the COVID-19 pandemic and government red tape pushed groundbreaking to April 2023. "We still had our government hurdles," said Pridgeon. "Details down to the types of doorknobs had to be run by the government." Significant building features needing approval of U.S. Customs and Border Protection were bulletproof walls, windows and glass; and bollards to protect the building. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is leasing the building for 40 years. Corporate Air provides services for privately-owned aircraft such as fuel, maintenance and flight planning. An estimated 15,000 flights per year refuel there, and fuel is its largest source of income. Pridgeon and his team anticipate an additional 4,500 refuels per year because of the facility. "This is an incredible opportunity for the city," said Pridgeon. "Who knows the unforeseen benefits this could have." Nick Slater is TCPalm's Indian River County Watchdog reporter.
