Odessa College falls after giving up five unanswered runs late
YUMA, Arizona (KMID/KPEJ) – The Odessa College Wranglers took the heartbreaking loss on Thursday, losing 5-4 to Northwest Florida State. The Wranglers held a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning before the Raiders had a three-run home run that cut the lead to one. In the seventh inning, the Wranglers had their opportunity to finish the game, but ultimately gave up two more runs, with the last being off a walk-off single. Odessa College will play in the loser's bracket later tonight against Grayson College in a District A Championship rematch.

Coahoma's Hannah Wells wins Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award
COAHOMA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – On Monday, it was announced that Coahoma superstar softball pitcher Hannah Wells won the Gatorade State Softball Player of the Year award, and today, she won the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award. Wells recently wrapped up her time playing for the Bulldogettes by helping them to win their third straight state championship in their fourth straight appearance. In her four years with Coahoma, the team finished 136-9-1 for a total of 146 games. According to MaxPreps from the last four seasons, Hannah Wells hit 86 home runs and 253 runs batted in with a .591 batting average. In the pitcher's circle, Wells went 77-3 with a .75 earned run average (ERA) with 879 strikeouts while only allowing 11 home runs. Wells now prepares to put on the burnt orange uniform when she heads to the University of Texas at Austin in the Fall after completing summer ball. 2025 Odessa Police Athletic League
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Odessa Police Department hosts the Odessa Police Athletic League yearly to offer kids in the Permian Basin a safe and active summer program. For $100 parents can register their children for a four-week program were children are provided with lunch and a variety of activities. This year children in the program had the opportunity to attend a movie at Cinergy, visit Urban Air, and play a variety of sports such as kickball and volleyball. This program has been around for three decades, and it has transformed the lives of several children and police officers. 'I've probably worked with over 10,000 children in this community over those 30 years, and honestly its the reason why I'm still in police work,' said Jon Foust, a sergeant with OPD.
