This traveling museum brings the past to life for kids this weekend

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Have you ever wanted to learn more about the amazing history of ancient giants and archaic fossils? If so, you won't want to miss Dinosaur George Traveling Museum. 'The Traveling Museum is comprised of pieces literally from all over the world. I bring a lot of things that were Texas related because people want to know what's living here, but I have pieces from before the age of dinosaurs, during the age of dinosaurs, and after. I have pieces from Russia and China and Australia and obviously Texas. But yeah, it's sea life, it's birds, it's prehistoric mammals like the saber-toothed cats, and of course it's dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus Rex,' said museum curator and educator, George Blasing. The past truly comes to life in exciting ways with this exhibit and families can see some of the beings that lived right here in the Basin. 'I think the oldest piece in my exhibit is a starfish that's 450 million years old, and that's hard to get your mind around that much time, right? So, 450 million years old, all the way up to about…the ice age. So, my exhibit spans a tremendous amount of time. One of the things you'll see here is some of the very animals that were dug up in your community. I have pieces here from animals that lived here…those animals were crawling around on the ground before this building was built, and they were probably crawling right here where we are. So, if you want to come in and see some of the very first members of society, I have them,' Blasing said. Dinosaur George's Traveling Museum will be at the Bush Convention Center tomorrow Saturday, May 31st from 9AM – 7PM. Admission is free and there will be plenty of fossils and shark teeth for your little future archaeologists and paleontologists to purchase. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Landgraf's food truck freedom bill heads to Governor's desk

NOTE: The video above first aired on March 6, 2025. AUSTIN (KMID/KPEJ)- Legislation by State Representative Brooks Landgraf to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles for food truck owners across Texas has cleared both chambers of the Texas Legislature and is now headed to Governor Greg Abbott's desk to be signed into law. House Bill 2844 creates a single, statewide health permit for food trucks issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This new system replaces the confusing patchwork of local health permits and duplicative inspections that currently burden mobile food vendors operating in multiple jurisdictions. 'Food truck owners shouldn't have to jump through a different set of hoops every time they cross a city limit,' Landgraf said. 'This bill provides a consistent, statewide framework for health permitting—cutting red tape while keeping food safety standards strong.' HB 2844 ensures that mobile food vendors are held to uniform, high health standards without being subjected to redundant local regulations. At the same time, the bill preserves local control by allowing cities to continue enforcing rules on where, when, and how food trucks operate—such as zoning restrictions, hours of operation, and proximity to events or schools. 'This is a big win for Texas small business owners, especially the hard-working entrepreneurs running food trucks in our communities,' Landgraf said. 'Instead of spending thousands of dollars on repetitive permits and unnecessary fees, food truck owners will be able to reinvest that money into growing their business—upgrading equipment, hiring more staff, and expanding their operations.' Landgraf filed the Food Truck Freedom bill at the request of several food truck operators in Odessa and Monahans. State Senator Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) sponsored the bill in the Senate. The bill received overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers and is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, following the creation of the statewide permit by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. BASIN BITES: Straight out of the wood oven

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)—In this week's Basin Bites, we visited Greggor's Pizza, a food truck in Odessa that specializes in wood-oven cooking. Greggor's offers multiple items that are all made in-house and fresh each day, from sauces to dough and even dessert items such as cannolis. When it comes to the pizzas, Greg and his wife Angela specialize in varieties that range from toppings such as brisket, jalapenos, sausage, and the classic pepperoni. Greggor's Pizza, originally known as The Pizza Stone, first started in the Pecos/Fort Stockton area while owner Greg Cook was working for his corporate job. However, when that moved to Odessa, he moved the business here. His wife Angela would homeschool the kids, but once they got older and began attending public school, she brought her prior food service experience to the table. 'We talked about the whole time opening our own little business for years,' says Angela. 'I've always dreamed about opening my own little place with him and and of course, with his experience with cooking and over the fire and whatnot. I think that's what correlates the wood-fired pizza and the wood-fired things that we do. That's what kind of impressed us about this.' You can find Greggor's Pizza on Facebook, where they post their location for the week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. MPD officer seriously injured after being struck at crash scene, one arrested

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- One person has been arrested after a crash Thursday night that left a Midland Police Department officer seriously injured. According to a City spokesperson, around 10:45 pm on May 29, the MPD responded to a crash with serious bodily injuries in the 2400 block of W Wall Street and learned that another officer, whose marked patrol unit had been parked in the roadway with its emergency light activated, had been struck by another vehicle while he assisted with a minor crash. MPD said the officer was standing near the rear of his vehicle when a Ford F-250, operated by 24-year-old Cody Justin Garcia, of Lyford, Texas, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and struck both the officer and his patrol unit. The police officer, whose name was not released, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Garcia was also taken to the hospital for treatment for injuries he sustained in the crash. MPD reported Garcia faces the following charges: intoxication assault causing serious bodily injuries to a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully carrying a weapon. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
