Britain's Got Talent's Alesha Dixon sparks divide over rogue golden buzzer decision

Daily Record19-05-2025

Britain's Got Talent's latest semi-final saw judge Alesha Dixon send one act straight to the final after awarding him the golden buzzer - but not everyone is happy about it.
Britain's Got Talent's Alesha Dixon has sparked some mixed opinions after she awarded the golden buzzer to semi-finalist Joseph Charm. The semi-finals this year such a huge change as the introduced the golden buzzer into the live shows for the first time ever, which means an act can now be sent straight through to the final.
It was introduced in 2014, where two of the acts made it to the final. The judging panel, which is made up of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli will now be given another opportunity to see their favourite acts in the final stages of the competition, in the hopes of them being victorious.

During Sunday evening's Britain's Got Talent semi-final on May 18 that aired a day late due to the Eurovision final, it was judge Alesha Dixon who had the power. Acts Hear Our Voice, Idolls, Joseph Charm, Max Fox, Maya Giotea, Obsequious, Papi and TK Magic took to the stage and any one of them could have received the buzzer.

Papi received the red buzzers but it was comedian Joseph Charm who won Alesha over with his amusing and relatable routine, the M.E.N reports.
In a tear-jerking moment for the comic, Alesha led his mum over to the golden buzzer and they pressed it together.
Joseph's performance was definitely worthy of the fast-track to the final but some fans felt an earlier act had missed out on a potential spot in the final.
Idolls are a Japanese dance troupe whose performance frightened but also very much impressed the judges and viewers.

Fans of the ITV show have now expressed their disappointment that Idolls weren't chosen by Alisha.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, @James6840766879 wrote: "Idolls deserved that golden buzzer. What a cool act"
Another person @cannylad23 chimed in: "Alicia should have idolls golden buzzer. No way they will get through otherwise".

Meanwhile, @Natasha_H_x echoed: "mping out in front of the judges was genius! I love #Idolls !! They should of got golden buzzer!"
However, other viewers were pleased for the comedian.
@thisisean wrote: "OMG, that was such a heartwarming moment! Alesha hitting the Golden Buzzer for Joseph Charm with his mum's help had me tearing up!"

@ThatGuyShaqq agreed: "My guy Joseph Charm got the golden buzzer".

Clair Obscur has already been hailed as the best title of the year, and for good reason: it's a massive, ambitious fantasy RPG that sticks the landing. Developed by French studio Sandfall, it's set in the land of Lumiere: a place where every year, a goddess called the Paintress marks down a number. Everybody who happens to be that age then dies in an explosion of petals. Naturally, this has to stop, and soon enough leading man Gustave is leading an expedition to defeat her once and for all. The studio has been open about the fact that this is intended to be a tribute to Japanese games, and it shows: there's a lot of Final Fantasy in its DNA, from the turn-based combat to the melodramatic story that unfolds as you spend more time with your companions. The game itself is pleasingly slim - only 35 hours long - but the combat is exceptional and the world dense with secrets to uncover.
