States to spend Rs 1 lakh cr on pre-poll sops to women in FY26: Report
Top 18 states will spend Rs 1 lakh crore on pre-poll sops to women this fiscal, Crisil Ratings said on Thursday. States' spending on social sector schemes will be at an elevated 2 per cent of GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) in FY26 and is likely to impact capital expenditure, it added. The social sector spends used to be in the range of 1.4-1.6 per cent of GSDP between fiscals 2019 and 2024, and climbed up to 2 per cent last fiscal, the rating agency said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Vietnam (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now "This fiscal (FY26), the elevated spending will result in high revenue deficit, thereby limiting the flexibility of the states to undertake higher capital outlays," the agency said. The analysis includes 18 top states accounting for over 90 per cent of aggregate GSDP of all states, and added that social sector spends includes revenue expenditure for welfare of backward classes, women, children and labour, as well as assistance to certain demographics in the form of social security pensions. Live Events Its senior director Anuj Sethi said the overall expenditure across states will come at Rs 2.3 lakh crore, and of this, Rs 1 lakh crore is towards direct benefit transfers (DBT) to women primarily as "election commitments". It may be recalled that concerns were raised about the impact of the pre-poll sops to women, and with the electoral success of such schemes, a larger number of governments were feared to announce similar measures. Crisil said such tendencies will make this a key monitorable factor going ahead. "Over the past few years, several key states that have gone to the polls have introduced or increased allocations to DBT schemes. With upcoming elections in...(some) states, a rise in DBT, as part of election commitments, is possible and remains a key monitorable," it said. The agency said the increase in social welfare expenses over FY25 and FY26 is not estimated to be uniform across the states, with half of the analysed states expected to see a significant surge in these expenses, while the remaining are likely to see these spending at relatively stable levels or see a modest increase. While the social welfare expenses are inching up significantly, there is a wide gap between the rise in revenue expenditure and revenue receipts for the states over the two fiscal, it added. The overall revenue expenditure is budgeted to log a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13-14 per cent between fiscals 2025 and 2026, while revenue receipts grew a slower 6.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) last fiscal and are expected to increase 6-8 per cent YoY this fiscal. Its director Aditya Jhaver explained that a rise in revenue deficit normally results in state governments reducing capital outlay to maintain their fiscal stability. Last fiscal, capital outlay grew a meagre 6 per cent on-year (as against a CAGR of 11 per cent over 5 years ended fiscal 2024) as revenue deficit ballooned almost 90 per cent on-year, he said. "If this trend continues this fiscal, it could constrain states' capital outlay, which has a higher multiplier effect and can stimulate increased investment in the economy," Jhaver said.

Your in-hand salary lower than what was offered in CTC? CA shares tips to help you avoid this situation
Chartered Accountant Abhishek Walia recently shared tips on social media for freshers and experienced professionals, cautioning those who celebrate offer letters without realising the challenges that follow months later. "Because the real paycheck isn't what's written in your offer - it's what you keep, grow, and protect," said the CA in a post on LinkedIn Check full post here Your CTC is lying to you! Every year, lakhs of freshers and experienced professionals celebrate offer letters with eye-popping CTCs. But a few months in, reality hits: 'Why is my in-hand salary so low?' 'Where did half of my CTC go?' 'Should I be doing something about these deductions?' Here's the truth: CTC ≠ Take-Home Pay Let's break it down: - Gratuity – Locked till 5 years. Not yours yet. - Employer PF – Yours, but not liquid. Think long-term savings. - Performance Bonus – Not guaranteed. Subjective, delayed. - ESOPs – May sound glamorous, but only valuable if exercised + liquid. - Insurance Premiums – Paid on your behalf, but no cash value in hand. So what's actually yours each month? Your net pay after deductions. Yet most people plan their lifestyle expenses based on CTC - which is a trap. So, here's what you should actually do: ✅ Understand your payslip. Not just the top line, but every component. ✅ Track net income, not gross. That's your real capacity to spend/invest. ✅ Build buffers for performance bonuses and variable components - treat them as bonuses, not baselines. ✅ Ask the right questions before accepting an offer: 'What's the fixed pay? What's variable? What's the vesting period for ESOPs?' Because the real paycheck isn't what's written in your offer - it's what you keep, grow, and protect. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unbelievable: Calculator Shows The Value Of Your House Instantly (Take a Look) Home Value Calculator Search Now Undo What did people say? Copper prices expected to peak at USD 10,050/t in August: Goldman Sachs
New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): Copper prices are expected to surge in the coming months, with a peak forecast to USD 10,050 in August, according to a recent report by Goldman Sachs. The sharp rise is mainly driven by two key factors: a tariff-driven reduction in copper stocks outside the United States, and positive sentiment around China's economic activity. The report said, 'We expect the copper price to rise to a peak for the year of USD 10,050 in August due to (1) the tariff-driven reduction in ex-US stocks'. Goldman Sachs has also upgraded its second-half 2025 forecast for London Metal Exchange (LME) copper prices to an average of USD 9,890 per tonne, up from the earlier projection of USD 9,140. The firm expects prices to hit their yearly peak in August before easing slightly to USD 9,700 by December. The anticipated decline toward the end of the year is based on Goldman's base case scenario, which assumes an 80 per cent probability that the US will impose a 25 per cent tariff on copper imports by September. However, the report also noted that if the tariff implementation is delayed, copper prices could remain higher for a longer period. The report highlighted the impact of the ongoing US Section 232 copper investigation, which has caused an unusually wide gap between copper prices on COMEX (US) and LME (UK). This price difference has led to the US importing around 400,000 tonnes of copper so far in 2025, much more than usual. As a result, copper inventories in the US have climbed significantly, now covering over 100 days of consumption compared to just 33 days at the beginning of the year. The report also reiterated its recommendation for the copper tariff trade strategy, going long on the December 2025 COMEX-LME copper arbitrage. According to the report, the market is currently pricing in only a 14 per cent tariff, which underestimates the potential for a 25 per cent or even 50 per cent tariff being imposed. Overall, copper markets remain sensitive to trade policy developments and global economic signals, especially from China, which continues to show resilience in its activity and demand. (ANI)
