Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Kamrup on Friday, after being arrested in relation to a horrific hit-and-run event in Guwahati that killed a 21-year-old engineering student.
Her two-day police custody came to an end, leading to the next legal step in the ongoing investigation.
Police oppose bail, seek further custody
As per an IANS report, the investigative agency is expected to oppose Kashyap's bail plea and will seek extended custody to further probe the matter.
The victim, Samiul Haque, a young engineering student, had sustained critical injuries after he was reportedly hit by Kashyap's car in the early hours of July 26 in Guwahati's Dakshingaon area.
The actress fled the scene without attempting to help the injured student, an act that has drawn heavy criticism.
Haque succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening, prompting authorities to take Kashyap into custody later that night. Initially, Kashyap was questioned by the police on the morning of the incident and was let go on a Personal Recognisance (PR) bond. However, following the death of the victim, a fresh round of questioning led to her arrest.

Jimalita Tillman, a prominent arts executive known for her work at Chicago's Harold Washington Cultural Center, is suing Shannon Sharpe for defamation (Image via IG) Jimalita Tillman isn't just a name caught in the whirlwind of celebrity gossip—she's a trailblazing arts executive, educator, and cultural advocate with deep roots in Chicago's creative community. As the longtime Executive Director of the Harold Washington Cultural Center (HWCC), Tillman has devoted her life to empowering underrepresented voices, developing youth arts programming, and promoting Black excellence through performance and education. But now, she's making headlines for an entirely different reason—filing a defamation lawsuit against NFL Hall of Famer turned media commentator, Shannon Sharpe. The Usher moment that spiraled into internet chaos It all began with what was supposed to be a joyful, empowering moment. On April 2, 2025, during an Usher concert, Tillman was chosen from the crowd for an impromptu serenade by the R&B superstar. As she recalled, 'He wasn't even supposed to stop where we were! It was like magnetic. And he smells like vacation. So he brought me closer and I locked in. I brought out all the Broadway magic that I had, but it was easy!' But soon after the video went viral, rumors swirled online—baseless claims that Tillman was a married woman and that her husband had filed for divorce over her interaction with Usher. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Ken Koh revived ailing family business in S'pore to produce the 'Rolls-Royce' of soya sauce CNA Read More Undo Shannon Sharpe, via his popular podcast and social media accounts, amplified the rumor, joking and speculating about the incident without verifying the facts. Chiefs' Chris Jones opens up about love and longing after split from longtime girlfriend stirs headlines

Chris Jones breaks silence on love life post-breakup (Getty Images) Kansas City Chiefs defensive star Chris Jones , known for his explosive presence on the field, is revealing a far more vulnerable side off it. Just months after a public and painful breakup with his longtime girlfriend Sheawna Weathersby, Jones appears to be yearning for something deeper than Super Bowl rings—companionship and love. During a lighthearted training camp interview, the 31-year-old defensive tackle shared a surprisingly heartfelt goal from his bucket list: 'I just wanna be married, I just wanna be loved.' Chris Jones shares hopes for marriage and future with someone new Jones' tender revelation was posted on the Chiefs' official TikTok account, drawing attention not just for its sincerity but also for its timing. The video surfaced four months after Weathersby's Instagram post accused Jones of infidelity and confirmed their nine-year relationship had ended 'months ago.' — BSO (@BSO) 'I'm choosing to focus on the positive as I close this chapter on a 9-year relationship,' she wrote. 'Ultimately Chris' infidelity with the woman he's recently been pictured with led to my decision to end our relationship months ago.' The alleged incident referenced was a now-deleted Instagram photo of Jones with a woman licking his face, which further fueled the breakup narrative. Jones never publicly addressed the accusations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Even Beautiful Women Have Their 'Oops' Moments Read More Undo However, he did declare his single status via a string of tweets back in January—just weeks before signing a mammoth five-year, $158.75 million contract extension that includes $101 million guaranteed. Weathersby's post also described unsettling harassment from the other woman, claiming, 'This is especially troubling given her history of harassment, stalking and disrespect towards me… This behavior has forced me to change my number and has forced Chris to ask her multiple times to please leave me alone and respect our coparenting dynamic.' Chris Jones- Life beyond the breakup Despite the personal upheaval, Jones continues to dominate on the field. Last season, he recorded 75 pressures, 29 quarterback hits, and 10.5 sacks—proving why he's a cornerstone of the Chiefs' defense. Jones and Weathersby, who had been together since at least 2015, share two young children, 6-year-old Christopher and 2-year-old Carson. Weathersby was a familiar presence at games and developed close bonds with other Chiefs WAGs, including Taylor Swift , who is currently dating tight end Travis Kelce . Now, with fame, fortune, and football already under his belt, Jones seems to be seeking something far more elusive—someone to stand beside him when the crowd fades and the lights go dim. Chennai: Kishore Saravanan, the stranded medical student from Russia had sent a desperate audio message to his father in Cuddalore on Thursday saying he was about to be sent to the war front on Aug 2. His father Saravanan, who met the media here on Friday, said that his son was subjected to conflict training and was being forced to consume steroids to withstand the pain. "Crying for help, my son said no one can see him alive if he was taken to the warfront on Aug 2," said an emotionally charged Saravanan. "Kishore said he was tortured, forced to consume chemicals and steroids, and given military training. He begged us to save him," Saravanan said urging the govts to act fast to rescue his son before he was sent to the warfront. Durai said he has gathered signatures from 68 Indian MPs across 15 parties supporting his demand for Prime Minister's urgent intervention. "The external affairs ministry has assured it has urged the Russian Ambassador to halt Kishore's transfer and is processing documents to bring him back," he said.
