Inter Milan got a big win against River Plate in the FIFA Club World Cup today.
The Nerazzurri took on River Plate in their final match of the group stage.
Having drawn against Monterrey and then beaten Urawa Red Diamonds, this final group stage match was all-important for determining whether Inter would reach the knockout rounds.
A draw would have been enough for Inter to secure their place in the round of sixteen.
However, with Monterrey winning in the other match, the Nerazzurri needed a victory to finish top of the group.
And that is exactly what Inter got in the end. It was teenage striker Francesco Pio Esposito who had the star turn when his team needed him most, scoring in the second half after River Plate had gone down to ten men.

Then, Alessandro Bastoni wrapped up the victory with a goal in stoppage time.
This result means that Inter will take on Brazilian team Fluminense in the round of sixteen next Monday.

Inter Milan Veteran Goalkeeper Outlines FIFA Club World Cup Ambitions: 'Here To Win'

Yann Sommer is confident Inter Milan can make amends for a disappointing season after last night's win over River Plate. Speaking to InterTV via FCInterNews, the veteran goalkeeper outlined Inter's lofty ambitions in the United States. Advertisement Inter netted two unanswered second-half goals in a 2-0 victory against Marcelo Gallardo's side. As a result, they've progressed into the FIFA Club World Cup knockouts as Group E winners. Francesco Pio Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni were on the scoresheet as Inter maintained their unbeaten start under Cristian Chivu. Meanwhile, Sommer registered his first clean sheet in the States. Indeed, he conceded in Inter's first two fixtures against CF Monterrey and Urawa Red Diamonds. However, River Plate couldn't find a way past the Swiss veteran at Lumen Field last night. That was the step in the right direction as Inter prepare for an exciting knockout tie against Fluminense. Yann Sommer Highlights Inter Milan Desire to Conquer Club World Cup After River Plate Win LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 11: Yann Sommer #1 of FC Internazionale Milano speaks with media after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport for FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on June 11, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by) 'Tough match? It's true,' Sommer admitted. 'We played a good game. It was difficult against a team that plays hard. Advertisement 'They're strong and aggressive in the duels, but we did really well. 'It's nice to play matches like this also because we don't often face teams like them. 'The first few days were a bit tough after a long season, but now we're here to win. Advancing is important for us and for the club. 'We have to put in a strong performance in the round of 16 too,' he continued. 'We'll need a lot of energy. 'It's a bit different here, the pitches are different. 'But now we're here, and then the next game will be another one we'll need to play with the same energy.' Lifting the trophy in North America would be a perfect response to a calamitous end to the 2024/25 season. In addition to a runner-up finish in Serie A, Inter slumped to a humiliating 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final. However, Chivu's charges can put all that behind them this summer.

However, Cristian Chivu will likely be without the 31-year-old for the rest of the tournament. Indeed, the new Inter boss may never have a chance to test Calhanoglu on the pitch. Rumors of his transfer to Galatasaray are gaining momentum. Therefore, the Munich final could prove his last game in the Nerazzurri shirt. The Croatian starlet picked up an assist in a 2-0 win over River Plate as Inter sealed the top spot in Group E.

Sebastian Kehl provides update on Youssoufa Moukoko's Borussia Dortmund departure

Youssoufa Moukoko is on the verge of leaving Borussia Dortmund for Copenhagen. Once heralded as one of Germany's greatest prospects, the 20-year-old is set to leave the Westfalenstadion on a permanent basis for a reported €5m. Speaking after Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 win against Ulsan HD at the FIFA Club World Cup, sporting director Sebastian Kehl provided an update on the transfer. Advertisement 'I'm in talks with Youssoufa, that's true,' said Kehl. 'There are still a few things needing to be clarified. Once they're resolved, we'll announce something but we're not there yet.' Moukoko (20) spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side OGC Nice but struggled with just two goals and two assists across 11 league games, totalling 199 minutes. With just one year remaining on his contract at Dortmund, the Germany international has failed to live up to expectations and with a failed loan spell in France, has seen his market value half from €20m to €10m, per Transfermarkt.
