Sasol in Sasolburg celebrates International Mandela Day
In Sasolburg more than 200 volunteers from Sasol's Sasolburg and Natref Operations as well as Mining participated in the drive themed 'Bridging the Gap, Nourishing Communities' and packed 1 028 boxes, each filled with red speckled beans, split peas, tinned fish, soya mince, maize meal, samp, rice, tea, tea creamer, soup powder, vitadrink, immunomeal, brown sugar and cooking oil.
The packed boxes were distributed to more than 25 NPOs that serve people living with disabilities, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) as well as shelters operating in Metsimaholo and Ngwathe local municipalities.
Sasol's Regional Operations and Assets Services also handed over food, clothing and items donated by employees to the Youth Care Centres for boys and girls in Sasolburg.
This year marks 10 years of Sasol for Good.
To date, over 170 organisations have benefited from the generosity of Sasol employees, who have collectively donated more than R7 million over the past decade.
Sasol has matched these contributions with an additional R6 million, resulting in a total of R13 million directed to non-profit organisations over the past 10 years.
To harness the growing momentum of community centred goodwill, Sasol introduced five days or 40 hours of paid employee volunteer leave in 2016 – designed to capitalise on this spirit of doing good.
The Sasol for Good initiative continues to empower employees to contribute their time, skills and in-kind support to causes aligned with their personal values. While Sasol evolved over the past decade, the company's commitment to philanthropy endures, particularly through initiatives such as annual International Nelson Mandela Day.

City Power continues to roll out free basic electricity
ity Power is urging indigent customers within the Randburg Service Delivery Centre (SDC) supply areas to register for the free basic electricity (FBE) programme before the deadline on July 31. City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena explained that this initiative primarily targets vulnerable households, including the unemployed, pensioners, child-headed households, and those earning under R7 503.01 or less per month, providing 50kWh of free electricity monthly to help meet essential household needs. Additionally, indigent customers will be exempt from the R70 service charge and R130 network capacity charge, for a total of R200 in savings every month. 'This is part of our continued efforts to provide relief for the most vulnerable members of our community during these challenging economic times,' said Mangena. Customers are encouraged to register by visiting the Randburg SDC weekdays from 08:00 – 16:00. The application form is also available on the City Power website: Customers should bring along the following documents for registration: ID, City Power prepaid meter number, Proof of income, Proof of address, Proof of Sassa grant (if applicable), Latest 3 months bank statements, and COJ rates and taxes account. R12 million for road projects in Driefontein and Acaciavale
Mayor Zama Sibisi yesterday (July 29) introduced a contractor for the Malva Road project in Ward 20, Acaciavale, under Alfred Duma Local Municipality. Sihlahlasiyahluma Construction (Pty) Ltd was announced as the contractor at an event that was held near the Acaciavale Community Clinic. R6 million has been allocated for the job, which is estimated to take about six months to complete. The project will create approximately 14 job opportunities for local residents. Also read: Municipality improves informal trading conditions in town Another project was launched in Ward 19, Driefontein, where Muntuza Engineering was announced as the contractor for the Mhlwaneni Road upgrade. Similarly budgeted at R6 million and scheduled for completion within six months, this project aims to significantly improve road quality and accessibility in the area. It is anticipated to generate 15 job opportunities for locals. The projects are funded by the Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). Sibisi emphasised the critical role these infrastructure upgrades will play in improving residents' daily lives by providing better access to essential services and boosting local economic activity. In closing, the mayor called on all community members to fully co-operate during the construction phase of these projects.
