Amarnath Yatra Suspended: The authorities have emphasised that the suspension is a precautionary measure, prioritising the safety of the pilgrims.
Amarnath Yatra Suspended: The Amarnath Yatra on the Baltal Axis route has been suspended due to heavy rain. The downpour has prompted urgent maintenance work on the Baltal Axis of Shri Amarnathji Yatra, leading to the closure of the route.
According to an official statement, the Yatra on the Baltal Axis route will remain suspended for August 1 and 2, and it will resume on August 3.
The region has experienced intense rainfall in recent days, impacting both the Pahalgam and Baltal axes of the Yatra. Urgent maintenance work is already underway on the Pahalgam route, which was similarly affected.
The authorities have emphasised that the suspension is a precautionary measure, prioritising the safety of the pilgrims. They also assured that updates on the reopening of the route will be provided once the repair work is complete and the path is deemed safe for travel.
'Due to the recent heavy rains, repair and maintenance works are required to be undertaken on the Baltal Axis of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route. In the interest of the safety of the yatris, no Yatra will be allowed on 3rd August from the Baltal route also. Further updates will be issued in due course of time", the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said.
Despite the disruption, the annual pilgrimage has seen a strong turnout this year. So far, more than 4.05 lakh devotees have visited the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnathji, marking a significant participation in the ongoing Yatra season.

Air India Cancels Bhubaneswar-Delhi Flight Over 'High Cabin Heat'

Last Updated: This was Air India's second technical snag of the day, after it cancelled flight AI349 from Singapore to Chennai due to a pre-boarding maintenance issue Air India cancelled a Delhi-bound flight from Bhubaneswar on Sunday after a technical fault led to unusually high temperatures inside the aircraft cabin before take-off. The airline said the decision was taken to ensure passenger safety. The flight, AI500, was scheduled to depart from Bhubaneswar at 12:35 pm and arrive in Delhi by 2:55 pm. According to flight tracking site Flightradar24, the service was to be operated by an Airbus A321 aircraft. However, the airline did not confirm the aircraft model or disclose how many passengers were affected. In a statement, Air India said, 'Flight AI500 scheduled to operate from Bhubaneswar to Delhi on August 3 has been cancelled due to a technical issue causing high cabin temperature on ground prior to the departure." The airline added that its team at Bhubaneswar airport was helping affected passengers with alternative travel options. This was the second technical snag reported by Air India on the same day. Earlier, the airline cancelled flight AI349 from Singapore to Chennai due to a maintenance issue identified before boarding. Adding to the airline's recent troubles, Air India is still facing scrutiny after a tragic crash in June involving a Boeing 787-8 aircraft headed to London Gatwick. The plane crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 people on board and 19 on the ground. Concerns about flight safety in India appear to be growing. A recent survey by LocalCircles found that 76% of respondents felt airlines were spending more on advertising than safety. About 64% said they had experienced at least one difficult flight in the past three years. Sri Lanka starts issuing temporary driving license to tourists at airport

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Colombo, Aug 3 (PTI) Sri Lanka on Sunday launched a programme to issue temporary driving licenses to tourists at the international airport. 'Foreign tourists and even Sri Lankan visitors to the country, who are not dual citizens, would be issued these licenses valid for a month," Kamal Amarasinghe, the chief of the Motor Traffic Department, said here. The tourists getting these temporary licenses would, however, be not eligible to drive heavy vehicles and three wheeler tuk-tuks, Amarasingha said. Currently, any tourists could have obtained a license at the Department's Colombo suburban facility following the due process, he said, adding, the new arrangement is a more swift process where tourists can self drive.
