Bengaluru cops restart vehicle towing
Bengaluru: In a bid to ease traffic congestion, the city traffic cops started towing abandoned vehicles and those parked in no-parking zones. The initiative, currently limited to Hebbal traffic police station limits, began on a trial basis in areas like Hebbal, Chikkajala, and Jalahalli.
On Tuesday, a total of 10 cars were towed away from in front of Mall of Asia in Byatarayanapura. According to senior traffic cops, towing is being done to clear vehicles obstructing traffic flow. The department hired private towing agencies to carry out the operation. Vehicle owners were only fined Rs 500 for parking in no-parking zones, with no additional towing charges collected.
Last week, a total of 30 two-wheelers were towed.
The initiative will likely be expanded to other areas if successful.
