Skoda, VW recall over 47k cars in India.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India
has issued a recall for over 47,000 vehicles, following the discovery of a potential defect in the
rear seatbelt system
. The recall affects several models across both Skoda and Volkswagen brands, all of which were manufactured between May 24, 2024 and April 1, 2025.
According to data shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), a total of 47,235 units are involved in the recall. Of these, 21,513 are Volkswagen
Taigun
and Virtus models, while the remaining 25,722 include Skoda's
Kushaq
,
Slavia
, and
Kylaq
. All affected vehicles were assembled in India.
Slavia, Virtus, Taigun, Kushaq, Kylaq recall: What's the issue?
The issue lies in the rear seatbelt assembly. SIAM's filing indicates that in the event of a frontal crash, the latch plate of the rear seatbelt buckle may break. Additionally, there's a risk that the webbing of the rear centre seatbelt and the buckle of the rear right seatbelt could fail. These faults could potentially compromise the safety of rear seat passengers in a collision.

Volkswagen says 20,000 workers agreed to voluntarily leave company by 2030

Volkswagen AG said about 20,000 employees will voluntarily leave the company by the end of the decade as the carmaker restructures its German operations to cope with uneven demand for its vehicles. Gunnar Kilian, Volkswagen's head of human relations and board member, told employees Tuesday at a workers assembly in Wolfsburg that the company's restructuring plans are on track. 'With measurable progress on factory costs in Wolfsburg and socially responsible job cuts at Volkswagen AG's six German sites alone, we are accelerating our transformation,' Kilian said. 'Around 20,000 departures from the company by 2030 have already been contractually agreed.' The total represents more than half of the 35,000 headcount reduction target, which the company aims to do without compulsory layoffs.

This company decides to fire 35000 employees, 20,000 agree to end…, no connection with Mukesh Ambani, Narayana Murthy, Noel Tata, Sundar Pichai, company is.... Automaker companies have also jumped into the massive layoff spree, with global automaker Volkswagen deciding to lay off as many as 35,000 employees in Germany by 2030. The significant job cuts are a part of the company's cost-cutting program amid the ongoing tariffs introduced by former United States President Donald Trump, looming over the German automotive industry, reported local news portal Bild. Notably, over 20,000 workers at Volkswagen have agreed to end their contracts early and take voluntary retirement. The reports cited a works council meeting at Volkswagen's Wolfsburg headquarters. The job cuts will be made at the German plants of the company. Volkswagen is focusing on performing reductions in an acceptable manner, with the employees agreeing to the terms. Volkswagen's Severance Package A German car manufacturer will provide severance payments to employees impacted by cost-cutting measures. The amount will vary depending on tenure, with potential payouts reaching USD400,000. While the total cost of these severance packages remains undisclosed, this information comes from a company staff meeting. Reduction In Apprenticeships To reduce costs, the German automaker will cut 1,400 apprenticeships to 600 annually, beginning in 2026. Combined with significant job reductions, these measures are projected to save the company approximately €1.5 billion annually in labour expenses. Apart from voluntary resignation, about 13 lakh employees in the company's core team are ready to accept the payment freeze. The automaker is also planning to give a five percent salary hike paid in two stages. Tariff Woes As per an earlier report by Reuters, which cited the Ifo Institute, the German automotive industry further impacted last month following a fall in the business climate index after Trump tariffs. 'The confusion surrounding the U.S. tariffs is causing problems for the automotive industry in Germany,' Reuters quoted Anita Woelfl, Ifo sector specialist. Facing weak European sales and intense foreign competition, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz are negotiating with the US government to mitigate the effects of tariffs. Meanwhile, a recent report reveals declining business confidence in May 2025, with the business expectations index falling to -28.3 points from -25.2 points in April, and the business climate index dropping to -31.8 points from -30.7 points.

Volkswagen layoffs: Automaker's plan to cut 35,000 jobs on track, 20,000 agree to end contracts early

Global automaker Volkswagen plans to lay off 35,000 jobs in Germany by the year 2030 as part of the company's cost-cutting program amid the ongoing Trump tariffs looming over the German automotive industry, reported a local news portal, Bild, on Tuesday, 3 June 2025. More than 20,000 workers at the core of the Volkswagen brand have agreed to end their contracts early, taking a voluntary retirement, according to the news portal's report, citing a works council meeting at Volkswagen's Wolfsburg headquarters. The job cuts are expected to be concentrated at German plants of the automaker, and the company aims to carry out the reductions in an 'acceptable manner,' with those affected agreeing to the terms. The German automaker plans to give every employee affected by the cost-cutting measure based on their length of service. The company is likely to pay up to $400,000; however, the company did not provide any information on the total amount of severance payments, reported the news portal, citing the company's staff meeting on Tuesday. Along with the job cuts, the company will also reduce the number of apprenticeships offered annually from 1,400 to 600 starting the year 2026. These cost cuts, along with the massive layoffs, will likely save the German automaker nearly 1.5 billion euros every year in labour costs, as per the news report. Not just a voluntary resignation, nearly 130,000 or 13 lakh employees in Volkswagen's core team are accepting a payment freeze. The company aims at a five per cent salary hike paid into a fund in two stages, which will be required to fund finance, among other things, flexible working time models The news report also shed light on how these measures prevented the closure of the Volkswagen plants in Germany. According to an earlier Reuters report citing the Ifo Institute, the German automotive industry deteriorated further in May 2025 after reporting a fall in the business climate index in the backdrop of the Trump tariffs from the United States. 'The confusion surrounding the U.S. tariffs is causing problems for the automotive industry in Germany,' Ifo sector specialist Anita Woelfl told the news agency. The automakers are already battling the weak demand in the European market and tough competition from foreign brands. This led to Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz to get into talks with the US government for a deal to ease the impact of tariffs. Business expectations for May 2025 dropped to -28.3 from -25.2 points in April, while the business climate index was down to -31.8 points from -30.7 in the previous month, according to the agneyc report.
