Ludhiana: Harassed by in-laws for dowry, 29-yr-old woman ends life
A 29-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after being subjected to prolonged dowry harassment by her husband and mother-in-law. The victim, who was married just a year and a half ago, reportedly set herself on fire following continued mental and physical abuse.
According to the brother of the victim, she was married to a Dholanwal village resident with all proper traditions, and the family had provided dowry exceeding their means. Despite this, her husband and mother-in-law constantly tormented her, accusing her of bringing insufficient dowry. 'She was beaten, abused, and harassed regularly. They kept demanding more from her even after the marriage,' he alleged.
The complainant added that on the morning of June 16, the family received a distressing call informing them that his sister had suffered severe burn injuries at her in-laws' home after setting herself ablaze. She was rushed to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in Ludhiana in a critical condition, but succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts.
The complainant expressed deep suspicion that his sister may have been deliberately set on fire and has urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly. 'We believe she was pushed to the edge and possibly harmed by her in-laws. The police must ensure justice,' he said.
Confirming the incident, inspector Jagdeep Singh Gill, SHO at Koom Kalan police station stated that an FIR under Sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the BNS has been lodged against husband and mother-in-law of the victim. A hunt is on for their arrest.

Panchkula: 3 cops sent to police lines after ‘suicide' by theft at Raipur Rani police station
A day after a 24-year-old theft accused, hailing from Hangola village in Raipur Rani, reportedly hanged himself in the police station, authorities on Thursday said disciplinary action was initiated against the investigating officer and a constable along with the munshi who were transferred to the police lines. A post-mortem examination was conducted in the civil hospital amid heavy police deployment following Wednesday's protest by the victim's family who alleged that the police torture resulted in his death. Also the chief judicial magistrate recorded the statements of the deceased's family, villagers and others. DCP Srishti Gupta said the deceased was brought to the Raipur Rani police station by villagers who suspected him of committing theft in a temple. He was interrogated and then made to sit in a room where he hanged himself. She said the CCTV footage from the police station, including the room where the incident occurred, was retrieved and sealed by magistrate. The video showed the deceased committed suicide, she said. DCP Gupta said a judicial inquiry is underway. 'Action will be taken against anyone found guilty.' An FIR under Section 305 (theft) and 331(3) (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the deceased on Wednesday. Based on the complaint of the deceased's family, another FIR was registered under Sections 108, 115, 61 of the BNS, and Section 3 of the SC/ST Act. The accused named in the FIR are sarpanch Rakesh, Mukesh, Navdeep, Rakesh Bhagat, Lalit (all residents of Hangola). Later, the family performed the last rites. Ambati booked for obstructing police
Narasaraopet: Sattenapalli rural police registered a case against former minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu for obstructing police duties during YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to Rentapalla village on June 18. The visit was to unveil a statue of YSRCP activist Nagamalleswara Rao, who died by suicide last year. Rambabu allegedly argued with police, removed barricades, and allowed YSRCP activists to gather at Korrapadu near Sattenapalli. He was booked under Sections 188, 332, 353, and 427 of BNS, and an investigation is underway. Further, police also booked YSRCP Sattenapalli Assembly constituency in-charge Gajjala Sudhir Bhargav Reddy and former MLA Dr Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy for conducting an unauthorised rally during Jagan's visit. Despite Section 30 of the Police Act being in force, the rally proceeded without permission and included a DJ sound system. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Palnadu district SP Kanchi Srinivasa Rao told the media on Thursday that permission was granted for three vehicles, escort vehicles, and 100 activists for the event. However, YSRCP leaders violated these conditions, obstructed police duties, damaged public property, disrupted traffic, and used a DJ sound system. The SP released a video showing the violations, which also caused a law-and-order issue. He said that legal action would be pursued after obtaining legal opinion and warned of strict measures against those violating law and order.
