Fire at industrial estate sparks huge 999 response as black smoke pours from building
Police and multiple fire engines remain on Usworth Road in Hartlepool this afternoon (August 4) after a blaze broke out just before 3pm.
According to residents, the surrounding area has been blocked off by 999 crews as plumes of black smoke continue to pour into the air.
The fire which has broke out in Hartlepool. (Image: IAN SAUNDERS) Nobody is believed to be injured, as the fire service urge residents to keep doors and windows closed.
A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with a large fire on Usworth Road in Hartlepool.
"There are a number of fire engines at the scene, and our crews are working hard to bring the incident under control.

"We advise people to avoid the area, and if you are a local resident or business, please keep windows and doors closed."
Cleveland Police added: "Officers are currently at the scene of a building fire on Jutland Road/Ormesby Road in Hartlepool.
"The roads are currently closed whilst emergency services deal with the incident. There are no injuries reported.
"Thank you for your patience."

Fire rips through roof of Beggars Pizza location in Blue Island, Illinois
A fire was raging Monday afternoon at a Beggars Pizza restaurant in the south Chicago suburb of Blue Island. The fire broke out at the Beggars Pizza location at 12700 S. Kedzie Ave. A pillar of flames was seen shooting through the roof just before 5 p.m. Flames were no longer visible a few minutes later, but robust smoke was still billowing. Firefighters were opening up the roof with saws for better access and ventilation. Multiple fire companies were also inside spraying down the building with hand lines. Fire rigs were parked along 127th Street near Kedzie Avenue. The building at minimum sustained smoke and water damage, but the extent of damage to the interior was not immediately learned. It was too soon to place a cause and origin, and there was no word of injuries. The Kedzie Avenue Beggars Pizza location is one of two in Blue Island. The other is at 12660 S. Western Ave. exactly a mile east.

Massive rat ‘almost the size of a small cat' found inside home
A gargantuan rat that measured a whopping 22 inches was found inside a residence in London, England. Eston Ward Councillors David Taylor and Stephen Martin posted about the alarming discovery made in a North Yorkshire neighbourhood — along with a photo of the enormous rodent that resembled the creatures Westley and Buttercup encounter in the Fire Swamp in The Princess Bride. In the July 28 post titled, 'Shocking Size — And A Growing Problem,' the councillors wrote: 'This massive rat over 22 inches long from nose to tail was found inside a local home this weekend.' They continued: 'It's almost the size of a small cat. And it's not a one-off.' The men shared a photo provided by the homeowner of the colossal creature in a clear, plastic bag after pest control made the jaw-dropping discovery. They went on to list how 'rats are being spotted more and more' in the area, but this may be the first time a rodent of this size was found inside a home. 'The longer this is ignored, the worse it will get,' they concluded. 'We need action — not just advice.' In an Aug. 3 follow-up, they noted that this is not the first time their area has experienced a rodent problem, noting that effective actions were taken 'two years' ago. However, 'now, the rats are back, and in even greater numbers,' they wrote. In another update, Taylor and Martin noted their hopes of something being done as their community's rodent problem has gone viral. Since then, the two sides have taken the first step towards reconciliation. King Charles and Prince Harry's senior aides held a secret meeting, considered the first big step towards resolving the feud between father and son. 'There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years,' said a source. That, couples with recent reports that Prince Harry reportedly invited his family to the next Invictus Games, which are set to be held in the UK in 2027 and reports that the King had factored not only Prince Harry but Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, into the heart of his funeral plans, paint a good picture for the future of the family.
