Fans CUT SHORT minute's silence in tribute to late Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Wembley

There were disappointing scenes as a small group of fans failed to observe the minute's silence in memory of Diogo Jota ahead of Sunday's Community Shield final. On July 3, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died when their car crashed in the early hours in northern Spain. The 28-year-old forward had recently married his childhood sweetheart at a ceremony in his native Portugal following a campaign culminating in trophy-winning successes for both club and country. Premier League champions Liverpool faced FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the traditional season curtain-raiser at Wembley on Sunday afternoon and there was no doubt that the occasion would be used to pay tribute to Jota.. The fixture is usually a joyous occasion for the two teams taking part but there was no doubt that there was a cloud of sadness hanging over the Home of Football ahead of kick-off. Reds legend Ian Rush and Palace chairman Steve Parish were seen laying wreaths on the side of the pitch in memory of the two brothers. The Liverpool half of the stadium was awashof banners and flags dedicated to Jota while TNT Sports cameras even spotted a Palace fan with his name on his shirt. Both sets of players made their way onto the pitch a minute's silence followed before the game got underway. And it quickly became clear that some inside the ground were not observing it properly. The muttering of noise was then met with boos from the Liverpool fans before they then turned to applause, the minute's silence cut short. The tributes followed those which took place at Anfield on Monday as Liverpool played their first matches at their home ground since the tragic event. Anfield was charged with emotion as Liverpool fans and club legends paid their respects to Jota and his brother ahead of two matches against Athletic Bilbao. Reds legend Phil Thompson and Bilbao president Jon Uriarte laid wreaths on the pitch, in front of the Kop. The billboard around the pitch read, 'Rest in peace Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, You'll Never Walk Alone', while supporters chanted Jota's name when Thompson and Uriate walked onto the field. The chorus began again at the start of the match. The crowd also held up flags and banners to remember Jota and stood to applaud - alongside both teams - in the 20th minute, a nod to the forward's shirt number. The front cover of the matchday programme was adorned with photos of Jota celebrating goals and the words, 'Diogo Jota, forever our number 20'. It contained a number of emotional tributes, including an obituary titled 'Forever our No 20'. The siblings were also honoured before pre-season matches against Preston North End, AC Milan and Yokohama FM. After the incident Liverpool announced that Jota's No 20 would be immediately retired for all levels following consultation with his widow and his family. There is also a 'Forever 20' emblem printed on Liverpool's new kits, which made its first appearance against Bilbao. It will remain in place all season. Plans are underway for a permanent memorial scultpure at Anfield while floral wreaths will be laid before the Reds' Premier League opener against Bournemouth on August 15. After joining from Wolves in 2020, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club, helping them to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

From finding love and God to gruelling challenges and coming close to death: How Mike Posner's life has changed 11 years on from writing hit single I Took A Pill in Ibiza

From finding love to coming close to death, Mike Posner's life has changed a lot over the past 11 years. The 37-year-old singer is best known for his 2010 hit Cooler Than Me, and his 2016 track with Avicii, I Took A Pill In Ibiza. But in recent years, instead of partying on the Spanish Island, Mike has completely changed his lifestyle. He now focuses on religion and meditation, is in a happy relationship, and has taken on huge physical challenges, including walking across America and climbing Mount Everest. 11 years after penning the lyrics to the hit track, which became a global hit thanks to a dance remix by SeeB, Mike reflected on how his life has changed since its release. Giving a verse-by-verse comparison on social media platform X, he penned: 'On my 26th birthday, I wrote I Took A Pill in Ibiza... 11 years ago. The song became popular several years after I wrote it. 'This year I celebrated my 37th birthday. I feel proud to look at the song lyrics and know that NONE of them are true anymore. I've grown into a completely new man... one that I'm proud of. check this out...' He continued, '26: 1 took a pill in Ibiza to show Avicii I was cool and when I finally got sober, felt 10 years older, but fuck it, it was something to do '37: I love myself more than ever, no longer do shit that harms my body to try to get people to like me. '26: I'm living out in LA, I drive a sports car just to prove. I'm a real big baller cause I made a million dollars and I spend it on girls and shoes. '37: donated massive Jordan collection, drive 4runner, don't need to prove anything to anyone other than God, love myself. If I buy myself something nice, it's because I love myself and I deserve it, not because I'm trying to prove to others I'm good enough.' Mike is also now in a happy relationship with his girlfriend Alli Schaper, who appeared in his music video for the single 'Is It Just Me?'. The video premiered in January 2025. He continued on X: '26: And I can't keep a girl, no. Cause as soon as the sun comes up I cut 'em all loose and work's my excuse But the truth is I can't open up '37: overcame my fear of intimacy and old patterns, worked through the pain of my previous breakups, recognised how much having a wife and family would actually mean to me, got the best help, did the inner work, and now I'm in the healthiest and most beautiful relationship I've ever had.' The artist's remarkable and inspiring revelation comes after he wrote the song having taken an impromptu trip to Ibiza with Swedish DJ Avicii - who tragically took his own life in 2018 - after writing a song with him. Explaining the song via online music encyclopedia Genius, Posner said the trip to Ibiza came after writing a song with Avicii in Sweden, and deciding to follow the DJ to the island where he was performing because he'd never been before. 'We were at his show and I was drinking at the time. And I just sort of moseyed out into the audience to watch Avicii spin from their point of view,' he said. Posner explained that he took a pill after a chance encounter with a fan who happened to recognise him while he was going between the VIP and general admission areas of the venue. 'So I took one and I had never done that before, and I felt amazing. Then when I came down, I felt ten years older,' he recalled. Mike's father Jon Miller died of cancer in 2017, and his friends Avicii and Mac Miller passed in 2018, the first by suicide and the second by an accidental overdose. At the time, Mike explained: 'Even though I had millions of dollars and followers and Grammy nominations, my life still felt empty.' Following this, Mike decided to complete a six-month journey across the United States on foot in 2019. Mike had to soldier through part of his trek with a walker after a baby rattlesnake bit him in Colorado this August, landing him briefly in the ICU. He initially wrote on Instagram that he would 'not be able to walk for several weeks' - but was then up on a walker three days after the bite. 'From 24 miles per day to using this walker to get to bathroom. I'm on my way back. Gonna rebuild with patience and equanimity,' he tweeted. The cross-country trek, which began five days before the first anniversary of Avicii's death, was partly a result of Mike's personal bereavement. 'The big thing is, everyone wants you to forget you're gonna die. Why? Because then you waste your precious life doing what they want you to do,' he told CBS This Morning around the time he began his trip from Asbury Park. 'People ask: "You know, is there a cause for your walk?" You know, I'm not raising money or anything, but maybe the cause is just to remind people your life is now. You know, if you close your eyes and you open 'em back up, this is it,' he said. The songwriter is no stranger to physically exhausting ventures, as he also successfully summited Mount Everest. Mike still performs at huge festivals, including Tomorrowland and Ultra, and recently released a new version of I Took A Pill In Ibiza with Steve Aoki. Along with his recording career, he has served as a record producer and songwriter for acts including Justin Bieber, Big Sean, Maroon 5, Nick Jonas, Cher Lloyd, and Labrinth. He co-wrote Boyfriend by Justin Bieber and Sugar by Maroon 5, among others.

Influencer blasted for revealing she is related to brutal ruler known as 'the God of War' - as people say 'how are you proud of that?'

An influencer has sparked controversy after casually revealing she descended from one of history's most violent and unhinged warlords. Leonie von Ungern-Sternberg, 29, an MBA student from Germany who is currently living in Spain, has gone viral for bubbly TikToks documenting her daily life - but behind her Instagrammable aesthetic lies a dark legacy. The social media star, who describes herself as a 'reluctant heiress to questionable legacies' is the direct descendant of Roman von Ungern-Sternberg, a notoriously savage military commander from the early 20th century. His ruthless reign of terror during the Russian Civil War earned him the nicknames 'The Bloody Baron,' 'The Mad Baron,' and even 'The God of War.' In the wake of the 1917 Communist revolution, Ungern-Sternberg led a brutal campaign against the Bolsheviks, invading Mongolia, forming a rogue empire, and orchestrating mass killings of suspected Communists in a reign marked by sadism and terror. However despite her horrific family history, Leonie appeared unfazed, making self deprecating videos about her lineage. In one clip, which racked up more than 2.4 million views, she wrote: 'My entire royal bloodline, who survived revolutions and exile, watching me order a matcha in a little black dress because coffee makes my tummy hurt.' In another TikTok she quipped: 'All these people telling me I should reclaim the throne to Mongolia but I'm literally just a girl who drinks matcha.' While some commenters were keen to know more about her ancestry, others fumed that she was making light of such a brutal past. One person wrote: 'How are you proud of that?? Do something with your life.' 'Wasn't your ancestor the guy who went around pillaging Mongolia?' another questioned. Someone else said: 'The Mad Baron was a murderous lunatic. Anyone who makes a hero out of someone like that belongs in a padded room.' A fourth added: 'Is this your entire personality?' Others however were impressed with the elusive background - as some even joked she should 'reclaim that throne'. One person wrote: 'Let's get you a throne somewhere.' Another said: 'Time to reclaim that throne, democracy is a failed experiment.' While some TikTokers were keen to know more about her ancestry, others fumed that she was making light of such a brutal past Someone else asked: 'Sorry if you have already been asked this, but if things had gone differently would you be the direct first in line for the throne? Like would you be the Queen/Empress of the Mongolian empire?' To this, Leonie replied: 'No, Roman was given the title of Khan out of respect from the actual King, the Bogd Khan. 'Other than the fact that Mongolia is a democratic republic (with a multi-party system) since 1990, we have absolutely no right or claim to the throne by blood.' Another joked: 'I bet they would've ordered matcha in a little black dress too if they'd had the chance. They're living vicariously through you.' In addition to hating Communists, Roman von Ungern-Sternberg was anti-Semitic and devised sadistic tortures and painful deaths for his enemies. According to some historical reports, he was said to have burned victims alive and left them out in the cold to be torn apart by wolves. He also crucified people with rusty nails and forced them to stay in treetops until they fell out and were shot, or died of exposure. In 1920 to 1921, he led a military campaign to liberate Mongolia from Chinese occupation and he successfully captured the Mongolian capital Urga (now Ulaanbaatar). His rule in Mongolia quickly descended into chaos and he was eventually defeated by Soviet-backed Mongolian forces where he was put on trial and executed by firing squad in September 1921. In another video, which she called her 'trauma Ted Talk', Leonie revealed she does not condone any of her relatives actions, saying: 'Nobody in my family does. 'What he did was absolutely gruesome and terrible but I do think he is an interesting character in history.' Leonie revealed what she finds most interesting about him is that people noticed signs in him, in his childhood, that he could could become a murderer due to some concerning behaviours. She added: 'People who knew him from his childhood said he had shown clear indicators... he used to set things on fire, kill little animals, he used to wet his bed until he was in his teens.' Despite her ancestors horrid past, Leonie still carries her surname with 'pride and honor,' because of her 'amazing family members'. Speaking to the New York Post she explained: 'My great-grandparents got murdered by the Nazis for helping Jews flee the country. 'A lot of Mongolians say, "In our home, [Ungern's] a hero." There are some that say, "Without [Ungern], we would possibly belong to China right now". 'On the other hand, there are also a lot of Mongolians that say, he was brutal … an outsider … He had no business to even hold that much power.'
