UAE non-oil trade hits AED3 trillion in 2024

Trade Arabia06-02-2025

The UAE's non-oil foreign trade has continued its upward trajectory, reaching AED3 trillion ($816.77 billion) in 2024, with a record annual increase of 14.6% compared to 2023.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, said: "Guided by the strategic vision of the national leadership, the UAE's foreign trade continues its remarkable upward trajectory. In 2024, our non-oil foreign trade reached an all-time high of AED2.997 trillion, increasing by 14.6% on 2023 against a global trade growth average of around 2.4%.
"The milestone also means we have achieved 75% of the AED4 trillion target set in the 'We the UAE 2031' national vision with seven full years remaining," he said.
'Of all the positive indicators, the most encouraging is the increasing contribution of non-oil exports to our foreign trade. Last year, they climbed 27.6% in to reach a record AED561.2 billion – nearly 70% of the AED800 billion target. Exports now comprise 18.7% of total trade, up from 16.8% in 2023 and 14.1% in 2019. These numbers confirm the pace and scale of our economic diversification plans, in which we are investing new economic sectors, creating new products for export, and establishing new means of long-term value creation," he added.
He further stated: 'The expansion of foreign trade is the centrepiece of our national economic strategy and, through our Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) programme, we are expanding opportunities for our private sector by enhancing access to high-growth markets around the world. In 2024, we have been able to see the positive impact of this program. Total exports to CEPA partner countries reached AED135 billion in 2024, an increase of 42.3% and contributing 24% of our total non-oil exports. India and Türkiye are the two leading destinations for non-oil exports.'
Al Zeyoudi concluded: 'Importantly, the record trade figures posted in 2024 reflect the dynamism and agility of our economy, one that has remained open to the world's trade, talent and investment. Moreover, they underline the fact that we are not only on the right path but paving the way for others to follow – and we look forward to adding more CEPA partners in 2025 and beyond to share in this success.'

UAE Announces New Corporate Tax Rule for Partnerships

The move is part of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance tax transparency and improve the business environment. Under the Federal Decree-Law No. (47) of 2022 on the Taxation of Corporations and Businesses, unincorporated partnerships are generally regarded as tax transparent entities. UAE Ministry of Finance issues Cabinet decision on partnership tax treatment This means that the partnership itself is not subject to corporate tax, but the partners are taxed individually on their respective shares of the partnership's income. However, 'the law also provides an option for the partners to apply for the partnership to be treated as a taxable person, similar to any other legal entity,' according to a stant by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) citing the Ministry's announcement. The new Cabinet Decision grants unincorporated partnerships the option, subject to prior approval by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), to be recognised as a taxable person. 'Upon approval of the application by the partners, the unincorporated partnership will be regarded as a legal person and a resident person for tax purposes,' the statement added. This change means the partnership will receive the same tax treatment as other legal persons under the law. The Decision outlines the rules for determining the taxable income of unincorporated partnerships to ensure clarity and certainty in tax compliance. According to the Ministry, this step aims to promote tax neutrality. It allows unincorporated partnerships to access exemptions and reliefs available to legal persons under the Corporate Tax Law. The decision is expected to help streamline the taxation framework for partnerships that choose to be taxed as a single entity, rather than having their partners taxed individually.

CEPA programme helps UAE's industrial growth: Minister

The UAE's Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) programme serves as a significant catalyst for the country's industrial sector, expanding access to markets around the world and integrating the nation into global supply chains, said Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade. 'The CEPA programme is not only creating access to diverse markets - it is also facilitating knowledge transfer and skills development across various sectors. As we innovate and diversify, we are building a robust industrial foundation that will sustain our economic growth,' he said participating in a panel discussion titled "Redefining Industry, Trade, and Investment" as part of the opening ceremony at the 'Make It In The Emirates' event. He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to advancing its industrial sector and boosting local production through strategic initiatives and global partnerships. The 'Make It In The Emirates' event has emerged as a vital platform for manufacturers, investors, and industry leaders, focusing on the UAE's industrial and manufacturing opportunities. The event emphasises the nation's economic diversification, technological innovation, and sustainability, helping to drive export-led growth. The strong growth of the UAE's goods export economy was highlighted in a recent report from the World Trade Organization, entitled 'Global Trade Outlook and Statistics'. That WTO report showed the UAE now ranks 11th globally in goods exports, with a value of US$603 billion in 2024. The nation rose six places in these rankings between 2021 and 2024, highlighting the effective nature of the UAE's industrial policy. During the panel, Al Zeyoudi emphasised the crucial role of trade and investment in fostering sustainable industrial growth and enhancing global competitiveness. The UAE's industrial strategy, underscored by initiatives like Project 300 billion and Make it in the Emirates, aims to shift the country's export base towards high-value, knowledge-based sectors, including advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, clean technologies, and logistics. Al Zeyoudi added:"Through the CEPA programme we are helping to establish the UAE as a global hub for industrial excellence. By leveraging advanced technologies and creating synergies between goods and services, we are paving the way for a more diversified and resilient economic model."
