Anurag Kashyap Slams Vivek Agnihotri For Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal Controversy: " Kitna Jhoota Hai Yeh Aadmi"

Anurag Kashyap is credited with some incredible films namely Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, and Ugly, to name a few.
However, things turned sour recently, when Vivek Agnihotri called Kashyap a drunkard and accused him of palming off work to Vikramaditya Motwane during the shooting of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, led by John Abraham and Bipasha Basu.
For the unversed, Anurag Kashyap was one of the dialogue writers alongside Rohit Malhotra for the film, while the screenplay was written by Vikramaditya Motwane.
Reacting to Vivek Agnihotri's strong allegations, Anurag Kashyap put up an Instagram story, writing, " Kitna jhootha hai ye aadmi. Shooting London mein hui thi (This man is such a liar. The shooting of the film took place in London). I was in India. He didn't want the script by Motwane or me. He wanted to make Lagaan of football and took his own writer to write that crappy script. Neither me nor @motwayne went on the set ever. Stop posturing @vivekagnihotri (sic)."
Vikramaditya Motwane too re-shared the story.
In a conversation with Digital Commentary, Vivek Agnihotri got candid about the chaos that had unfolded on the sets of Goal.
The director said, "I have worked with him (Anurag Kashyap). We were doing the film Goal together. He was the writer of the film. Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra were supposed to do it, but Saif had some personal issues at the time, so he left. Then we got John and Bipasha. Anurag uss time bahut sharab peeta tha toh usko time ka koi hisaab nahi tha."
He furthermore revealed that the creative direction of the film changed when Kashyap brought in Motwane.
Agnihotri added, " Phir voh Vikramaditya Motwane ko le aaye, bola mera ek ladka hai, woh help karega. Dheere dheere saara kaam Vikramaditya ko hi de diya. Main jo bana na chah raha tha, yeh log ki soch kuch alag thi, yeh kuch aur hi bana na chah rahe the. Ultimately, we were at loggerheads. The production house had a word with Anurag... Anurag ko handle karna mushkil ho gaya. Because only an alcoholic knows what an alcoholic goes through. It became a very big problem."
Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal had John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, and Boman Irani in the lead. It was produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Vivek Agnihotri for UTV Motion Pictures.

I spoke about it five years later at the Filmfare.' Kabir also recalled meeting Parveen just a year prior her death, 'I met her a year before she passed away. She was laying beside the pool, sunning herself and she said, 'Oh, Kabir.' She was embarassed to see me, she had changed a lot. She told me, 'I'm fine but people think I'm mad.' I told her, 'You have made accusations against people and naturally they will have an opinion.' She looked at me and said, 'You also think I'm mad. You are one of them. I don't want to see you again. Please leave.' I wished her well and left. I was sorry to see her in that state. But she had a flat and she was looked after, she was working as an interior designer.' Kabir concluded by saying that he always cared for her and wanted her to seek help. But, her fear of losing out on work and other opportunities, was the major issue, hence his attempts failed to support her.

Anurag Kashyap and Ram Gopal Varma have never been ones to shy away from expressing opinions candidly. Now, the iconic filmmakers have lashed out against contemporary filmmakers who use formulaic methods to create cinema, with some even revealing a filmmaker's sabotage decision for their own film. In an interview with The Filmy Hustle, hosted by distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, the cinematic duo came together for the very first time and spoke quite a lot about films. During the conversation, Anurag Kashyap spoke about how the 2016 Marathi film Sairat became a massive hit, and he felt the movie would set a benchmark. However, everyone stopped making such movies and went on to follow a formula. The director mentioned that a filmmaker, whose name he won't say, had deliberately put bad VFX in his film so that everyone would know they had used special effects in his movie. He continued, 'What has happened since KGF, Salaar is that you wonder, why is the DI of all the films looking the same? In Animal (2023), the gore and violence have worked. Hence, filmmakers are getting more and more gore in their films, sometimes without reason!' He further highlighted how filmmakers do not consider 'creating a cinematic experience' as a goal. On the other hand, underlines how the formula they follow is based on a peculiar conviction by a person when everyone around them would advise not to follow it. On the other hand, Ram Gopal Varma added more to the filmmaker's comment and said, 'I never consciously thought of making Satya (1998) at low cost. I was spending what was required, and it created authenticity and realism. If I had spent Rs. 5 crores more, Satya's quality would have been five times lesser!' The Shiva director went on to mention how, following the Baahubali days, many have adopted the mindset that one must spend more on production values and VFX to impress people. The director stated that his issue is not that one can save money by making a film with less cost, but that filmmakers ruin films by spending too much. He concluded that with artificial production values, people are cutting emotions from stories.

Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra was the topic of conversation for directors Ram Gopal Varma and Anurag Kashyap. In a recent interview, the duo revealed hilarious anecdotes and their memories of working with the 12th Fail director. While Kashyap called him 'self-obsessed' and recalled leaving his film Mission Kashmir, RGV said that Chopra believes that he is the best filmmaker in the world. During a conversation with India TV, Anurag spoke about quitting Chopra's Mission Kashmir. Without revealing the details, he said, 'I had written a script for Shivam Nair to do for television. That is when I left Mission Kashmir and I asked Shivam, 'Can I direct my own script?'. Shivam gracefully agreed.' Having said that, the Gangs Of Wasseypur director praised Chopra's creative mind. 'The child in him is still alive. His self-obsession and vanity co-exist. There's one sequence in 12th Fail where Vikrant Massey's character has gone all the way to (Uttarakhand). It's a single-shot scene. The way he has designed it, he's a craftsman. When he's at his peak craftsmanship, you do admire him,' he added. I thought that he differently pronounced 'shikari' (laughs). A little ahead into the narration, he told me, 'The shikara blows up'… After 10 minutes, I asked him, 'Why was the hunter killed?'' He continued, 'He said, 'Ramu, you don't know shikara'! He was so angry with me (laughs)… I screwed up the entire narration. He was so angry with me that I thought he was about to hit me or something!' RGV also claimed that Vidhu Vinod Chopra believes he is the best filmmaker in the world. 'He genuinely believes that he's the best filmmaker in the world. Whether he's one or not, I am not going to say that. But I don't think any filmmaker in the world will believe that,' he concluded.
