England fans celebrate in Manchester as team triumphs at Euro 2025
The Lionesses were looking to avenge their 1-0 defeat by Spain at the World Cup final two years ago. While Spain were seeking their first European title and a chance to become the first national side in history to win every UEFA trophy on offer.
There was a sense of nerves, quiet confidence and an overall excitement at the city centre venue from football fans before kick off.

The Hall family from Manchester were hoping for an England win, with predictions of 2-1, 3-0 and one member of the family thinking England would nick it on penalties.
The very excited players from The University of Salford's Women's football team were also praying for an England win, screams of "3-1", "2-0", "1-0" and "England on penalties" were thrown at the M.E.N when we asked for predictions.
Friends Alice Carr and Kallie Weaver were excited but very nervous, noting how impressive Spain had been in this tournament.
"They keep the ball really well." Said Kallie.
"I think we'll win in the end, I have faith in them." Added Alice.
Viral England super fan Andy Milne was also there, and he was caught in two minds.
'I'm a bit nervous, we don't start games very well and Spain are very good. I'd say 1-0 England, but my real prediction is probably 4-0 Spain.'
In the end, Andy needn't be so pessimistic, in what was a tense battle, Spain took the lead through Mariona Caldentey in the first half, and England equalised with a Alessio Russo header in the second half.
With nothing to separate them in extra time, the game went to penalties, where super sub Chloe Kelly slotted in a historic penalty that saw England become European Champions.
Freight Island erupted with delight, with cheers that seemed to go on for an eternity before they sang Sweet Caroline at the top of their lungs.

England forward Chloe Kelly has explained her unique penalty routine after firing the Lionesses to European glory once again. 'It is just something that is part of my routine, just like my breathe work is, and I try to stick to that routine as much as possible, and believe in myself in those moments.' It is now back-to-back Euro titles for the Lionesses and it was Kelly who proved to be the hero in the final three years ago as she netted a dramatic extra-time winner against Germany at Wembley. Despite seeing her initial penalty saved in the semi-final win over Italy, Kelly was not fazed about stepping up to take the final spot-kick against Spain. She added: 'To be honest, it started when I was at Everton - quite a few years ago now. It is something that just works for me, I can't explain it too much. 'I actually spoke with one of the coaches the other day about it, it's just my routine that works for me and I take my time, I take my breath, and I am confident in that. 'Taking a penalty normally would feel a bit weird to me. So it is just my routine. Sometimes you miss, sometimes you score, but I was adamant I was not missing two on the bounce.'

€78m deal is Liverpool's DREAM come true
Liverpool are set to strike a €78m deal. It's a dream come true and exactly what the Reds needed. Liverpool have found a few deals this summer that are still incredible to think about. Florian Wirtz's record-breaking arrival remains the peak, of course. One of those problems was created by Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid. Still, Liverpool turned that into a remarkable deal - £10m for a player who wouldn't actually play for the club again. He says this one's at the final stages, with only details being sorted. Now, Romano claims the fee here is around €75m. Sky Sports suggest it's slightly higher at around €78m. And this is a fantastic deal for Liverpool. It's a large fee - one of the largest received for a Red - and it's for someone approaching 29 with two years remaining on his contract. Diaz wasn't going to sign a new deal, either, after negotiations broke down. His asking price would have plummeted in a year as a result of that - Liverpool needed to get this one done now.

Eric Bailly handed career lifeline by two surprise Italian clubs
Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is wanted by two Italian clubs. Difficult career after United The Ivorian has had his difficulties since leaving England. He struggled whilst in Turkey for Besiktas after leaving United and had his contract cancelled after only a matter of months at the club. Bailly then signed for his former club Villarreal but failed to make much of an impact. The Ivory Coast international was then released from the Spanish side earlier this summer. Saudi move fell through The 31-year-old centre back looked like he would be on his way to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Najmah SC. Nonetheless, this deal never came to pass as Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that the move broke down due to Bailly deciding to walk away from negotiations. Italian interest Italian website Calciomercato have reported that there are a couple of teams in Italy who hold an interest in the centre back. They claim that Serie A could be in Bailly's future very soon. The website states that 'the player's team has offered him a Serie A deal with Cagliari and Cremonese: both the Sardinian and Lombard clubs are interested in him.' Salary Obstacle Nonetheless, a deal will not be plain sailing for the free agent. The site reports that 'the biggest obstacle at the moment is a salary request of at least €1 million.' A move to Italy would add to 'an impressive CV', after spells in Spain, England, France and Turkey. Bailly will hope wherever he lands, he can put together some significant time on the pitch.
