Govt committed to giving land for permanent IIT campus: CM
At the convocation ceremony of IIT-Goa at Ponda on Sunday, chief minister
Pramod Sawant
said that state govt is committed to allocating land for the permanent campus of IIT-Goa at the earliest.
He said that land was leased out from NIT-Goa and the State Institute of Hotel Management in the meantime for IIT to expand its academic activities on its transit campus at Farmagudi.
'While the institute is still functioning from the transit campus, I am happy that progress was made towards expansion,' Sawant said.
The CM said, 'However, I must affirm here that govt of Goa is committed to resolving the land allocation issue at the earliest so that IIT-Goa gets the permanent campus it rightfully deserves.'
The global institution needs a world-class campus, he said.
Urging the graduating students of IIT-Goa to contribute to the state's progress, he said, 'Your cherished memories here will remain with you for a lifetime. Other than your institute, also do not forget Goa.'
He said, 'Whenever you get an opportunity, you must do something for IIT-Goa, and I would also like to say you should surely make some contribution to Goa.'

Sawant told the students that he is sure whenever Goa is mentioned, they will have very good things to say about it.
'I am sure whenever you get the opportunity, you will do something for Goa,' he said.
IIT-Goa quickly established itself as a hub of academic and research excellence and made the state proud, Sawant said. 'Goa, with its focus on Digital India, Smart City, renewable energy, and sustainable development, is an ideal environment for your talent,' he said.
'Through our startup and innovation policies, we are creating a platform for youth to dream big, build solutions, and contribute meaningfully.'
Sawant added, 'I invite all of you to see yourself not just as job seekers but as job creators. As visionaries who can launch the next big idea from Goa to the world.'
At the 6th convocation ceremony of IIT-Goa, 174 students were awarded BTech, MTech, and PhD degrees. The event was presided over by Adil Siraj Zainulbhai, the chairperson of the board of governors of IIT-Goa.
Professor Dhirendra S Katti, the director of IIT-Goa, presented the report outlining the achievements of the institute and its students during the academic year 2024-25.

Ullu had to remove its series House Arrest in May 2025 after govt intervention. No funds from muzrai temples diverted: DGR
Mangaluru: Minister for health and family welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao, expressed concern over the spread of false information accusing the govt of diverting revenue from endowment temples for other purposes. Stating that the govt utilises the revenue from muzrai temples exclusively for the development of religious shrines under the department, the minister said that a few organisations have been spreading malicious campaigns against the govt with a political agenda. Rao was speaking at a consultation meeting with the management committee members of temples under the Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments department on Friday. The Congress govt under chief minister Siddaramaiah increased 'tasdik' (remuneration for archaks) from Rs 24,000 to Rs 36,000 per year, and later to Rs 48,000 during his previous term. NMC reinvites ‘Ram Kal Path' bids after lukewarm response
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday refloated the tender for the 'Ram Kal Path' project inviting tenders from private agencies for the second phase of the work amounting to Rs 74.8 crore, after receiving a lukewarm response to its initial bids. The Ram Kal Path project involves developing a 1.3km stretch from Ramkund to Kalaram Temple and Seetagumpha. After a poor initial response, the civic body has refloated the tender for the Rs 74.8-crore project, hoping for better participation this time. If a contractor is finalised soon, work is expected to begin promptly, given the project's deadline of Sept next year, civic official said. Prashant Pagar, a senior official from the public works department of NMC, said four contractors had filed their bids, but three were disqualified. "Hence, we took the second call for inviting the bids. This time, we are expecting good response from the contractors for the project," he said. The civic officials said various beautification works were to be undertaken under the project to make the entire stretch an attraction for tourists. NMC has already finalised the contractor for the first phase of the project through the tender process. Simhastha Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years in Nashik when lakhs of sadhus and devotees take a holy dip in the Ramkund during the religious conglomerate. The upcoming Kumbh Mela is slated to be held between 2026 and 2028. Hence, NMC wants to complete the Ram Kal Path project before the Kumbh Mela begins. The flag hoisting of the Kumbh Mela is to be held in Oct next year. In June, the civic body had decided to increase Ram Kal Path's width to 9 metres. In May, NMC had set aside Rs 23 crore on renovating structures' façade along the corridor. In April, NMC sought additional funding for project and also decided to demolish six wadas to pave.
