She's Behind You review – Christmas comes early to Edinburgh with panto songs, sweets and subversive spirit
Unlike her usual festive appearances at the Tron in Glasgow and the Macrobert in Stirling, she is here, out of season, not just to entertain – which she does in abundance – but to educate. In a show that grew out of a lecture at the University of Glasgow in memory of the late academic Alasdair Cameron, a champion of popular theatre, McKnight and director John Tiffany throw in songs, sweets and copious audience interaction to celebrate panto's radical potential.
It is very funny, but the real soul of this tremendous show lies in the personal story McKnight tells. From his earliest memory of seeing Johnny Beattie at the Ayr Gaiety, when he realised 'You don't just see panto; panto sees you,' he takes us through his first tentative steps as an actor playing the comic silly billy role, hiding behind the character's asexual charm, and then, in 2006, his first dame.
But something was wrong: in sticking so rigidly to tradition, the tired assumptions, the dated jokes, he was repressing his true self and muting the anarchic possibilities of the form.
It was time to kill the old. In the coming seasons, he upended the cliches, corrected the gender balance and acknowledged his own sexuality. By 2018, he was fielding two male romantic leads in Mammy Goose and audiences did not just accept it: they demanded more. Along the way, he faced sectarianism, homophobia and serious ethical questions, but sticking to the principles of always punching up, thinking his choices through and representing the marginalised, he reclaimed panto's subversive spirit and made it, hilariously, his own. Oh yes he did.

But the Scottish native added that she feared something wasn't right when she saw there were as many as 1,000 winners and the jackpost was still available. But her and her partner continued to play and their fears were even soothed by the bingo chat room host who told them to enjoy their winnings. She said: 'I wasn't sure about it all but then the host said "enjoy your winnings" - they obviously didn't realise what was happening.' The 52-year-old woman said that some players were able to withdraw the money straight to their Santander bank accounts but others couldn't. She told the Daily Mail that since the shocking incident, Gala Bingo has frozen her and her partners accounts and even disabled her husband's chat room privileges. because of his complaining. Pensioner Jill Douthwaite, 72, who won £2,700 on the online game, said a live chat agent confirmed the money won was genuine. 'I've been a loyal customer for 15 years, but don't think I'll ever bet with them again.' Gala Bingo sent a message to customers informing them they would not receive their winnings, but would be refunded what they spent on Bingo Tickets. The firm says the technical glitch happened on Monday night, causing chaos for around two hours. It has contacted the Gambling Commission over the incident. A Gala Bingo spokesperson said: "We apologise to customers for a technical error which occurred during our Summer Nights Bingo promotion for a short period of time, resulting in all players receiving incorrect payouts. "Our customer Terms and Conditions clearly state that in the event of a malfunction, winnings can be voided. "Affected players have been contacted directly with a gesture of goodwill."

Tom Holland films for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on streets of Glasgow
Spider-Man has been spotted swinging through the streets of don't worry, he hasn't taken a wrong turn on his way to New York – the city has been transformed into the Big Apple for filming of the brand-new Spider-Man movie, called Brand New were spinning in excitement as they spotted yellow New York-style taxis, American police cars, and even a tank (yes – a tank!) rumbling past shops and businesses. Spidey actor Tom Holland was seen in action, stood on vehicles and attached to wires. Parts of the city centre have been made to look like New York City as filming there is set to last until 15 Tom Holland was also showing off his brand new spider suit – teased just last week. But it wasn't just Tom doing the heroics – a stunt double was seen actually swinging between buildings using wires and a giant crane-like (don't worry, fake ones!) lit up the streets, adding to the marvel-lous movie magic. Crowds of people have gathered to catch a glimpse of the action, with lots of kids enjoying the excitement on their summer holidays. Some even wore their own Spidey masks and costumes and even had the chance to meet Tom Holland between scenes. Glasgow has also been used as New York for other films - for example Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny - and the city has also featured as the DC Comics version of NYC, Gotham City, in The Flash and The if grown ups driving in the city start to feel their spidey-sense tingling, it's probably just the traffic - as filming means more than fifty Glasgow roads will be closed for at least two weeks.
