Consider establishing Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam: Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has suggested to officials to consider establishing a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam.
Chairing a meeting to review the progress of construction terminal buildings at the Vijayawada International Airport, at the Secretariat on Wednesday (June 11, 2025), Mr. Naidu emphasised the need to improve connectivity from the airports in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and other locations to various domestic and international cities.
Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, senior Ministry officials, and Chairman of the Airports Authority of India attended the meeting virtually.
The Chief Minister instructed that the design of the terminal buildings at the Vijayawada airport be attractive and unique.
He issued instructions regarding the construction of the terminal building, ramp connectivity to the national highway, etc. 'The terminal elevation, departure and arrival blocks, and passenger lounges should reflect Andhra Pradesh's cultural heritage in their design. Traditional dance forms such as Kuchipudi, Kondapalli toys, Amaravati motifs, and Lepakshi artworks should be incorporated into the architectural design,' he said.
Mr. Rammohan Naidu also briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of the terminal building construction in Kadapa and Rajamahendravaram. He said technical feasibility reports were underway for new airports at Dagadarthi, Kuppam, and Palasa.
Regarding the Amaravati airport, a land survey was in progress. A report from the RITES team was expected soon. Once the land pooling process was completed, the project could be initiated in two years. Operations at the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam airports have increased by 40%. Airline operators are coming forward to enhance domestic connectivity from airports in Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, and Kurnool.
TruJet has expressed interest in operating flights from Visakhapatnam to various locations starting October. Additionally, flights between Vijayawada–Singapore and Tirupati–Muscat are expected to commence soon. Seaplane operations are also scheduled to begin after September.
The Union Minister said that Qatar Aviation Fund was showing interest in investing near the Bhogapuram airport, a press release said.

Naidu emphasised the substantial difference between the current 'Talliki Vandanam' scheme and the previous government's 'Amma Vodi'. "They only covered 42,61,965 students, while we are covering 67,27,164 students - an increase of 24,65,199 beneficiaries," he explained, adding, "they spent Rs 5,540 crore; we are allocating Rs 8,745 crore, which is Rs 3,205 crore more."To ensure transparency, beneficiary lists will be prominently displayed at village and ward secretariats. Any technical glitches or issues that applicants face will be addressed promptly, with a deadline set for June 26 for corrections, and the final list to be published on June 30, he said. Further, he noted that 'Annadata Sukhibava' (Rs 20,000 per annum for farmers) will be implemented on June 20 and free bus travel for women from August 15. The Chief Minister criticised the previous YSRCP government, stating, "In the last five years, the state was torn apart. There was no trace of development." He accused the previous government of mortgaging state revenues for 25 years for loans, even pledging Tahsildar offices, and neglecting timely salary payments for employees and pensioners. "We resolved all these issues," he said. According to him, since taking charge, the NDA government reopened 204 Anna Canteens, serving 4 crore meals. He reiterated his promise to generate 20 lakh jobs and said that MoUs for Rs 9.50 lakh crore investments were already signed, with a potential to create 8.5 lakh jobs. He also mentioned that Nara Lokesh was making concerted efforts to attract investments and generate employment opportunities. "Despite challenges, we are pushing through. I review the Finance Department for an hour every day," CM Naidu said. "We aim at eliminating poverty and bridging economic inequalities. The NDA government is committed to improving the living standards of every citizen."

Andhra's unilateral ban on mangoes against spirit of federalism: Siddaramaiah
Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has urged Chandrababu Naidu, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, to withdraw the ban on transport of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka into Chittoor district. The decision to write to Naidu came on Wednesday, a day after mango producers and farmers dumped their produce on streets of Srinivaspura in Kolar. In his letter, Siddaramaiah asked Naidu to intervene in the matter and issue directions to Chittoor district authorities to immediately revoke the ban. Siddaramaiah revealed that the AP govt has stationed multidisciplinary enforcement teams comprising personnel from revenue, police, forest, and marketing departments at inter-state checkposts adjoining Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to implement the ban. "This abrupt and unilateral move has caused considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka, particularly those in the border regions who cultivate Totapuri mangoes in substantial quantities," Siddaramaiah said.
