Forest lose appeal against £750,000 fine
They were fined by the Football Association in October for an "attack on the integrity of a match official on an unparalleled scale".
Forest complained on X about three penalty decisions that went against them during a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Everton on 21 April 2024.
Forest's post said they had "warned" referees' body Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) that Attwell, who was the VAR for the match, was a fan of relegation rivals Luton, but that "they did not change him", adding: "Our patience has been tested multiple times."
In October Forest said the fine was "disproportionate", but on Monday the FA said an appeal board had upheld the sanction.
"In our view, a heavy penalty was entirely merited for this very serious offence," the board said in its written reasons.
"An aggravating feature of the offence was that the tweet was viewed by millions of people. In short, it went 'viral'. This was predictable and no doubt intended.
"It was also predictable that it would cause great distress to the match officials and their families."
Defeat by Everton left Forest one point ahead of Luton, although they ended the season in 17th - six points clear of the relegation zone. Luton were relegated.
Forest are third in the table with 10 matches of this season remaining.

We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Nottingham Forest and Brentford. Here are some of your comments: Nottingham Forest fans Peter: Some of our play in the first half was the most fluid I've seen since we've been in this league. Brentford had no idea what was happening. Better late than never. Our new signings and those we've been linked to should address the issues that ultimately undid our bid for the top five last season. Mark: Forest played some magnificent football in the first half. Every player we had on the pitch looked class. Gibbs-White and Anderson in particular were superb. The passes for goals two and three were top drawer. And there is more to come! I expect a higher finish in the league than last season. Simon: Looks like Forest have the players to be more tactically flexible this season. Towards the end of last season teams were learning how to play them (and Forest players were getting tired). It now looks like they have more than one way to play and recruitment has been excellent. Brentford fans Will: A bit shocked that we let three in. Honestly, we looked half asleep in the first period. We were better in the second - it helped having Schade and then Henderson in. Should start them, and with Damsgaard back we will get needed creativity. Very much need more in the final third. Didn't see a visible strategy to deal with Forest's potent attack. Hope Andrews can learn and adjust as we move on. I hate to say it, but he looked kind of dazed. Sam: A sloppy performance in which we were a shadow of our past selves. Defence and midfield was nowhere to be seen at times so when we lost the ball, Forest carved us open. Some positives - like Schade coming on and seeing Rico Henry back - but, overall, not pleased at all. Richard: There were some positives but not many. We were outplayed by an in-form team. Man Utd 0-1 Arsenal - the fans' verdict
We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Manchester United and Arsenal. Here are some of your comments: United fans Richard: I agree with Ruben Amorim - we were clearly the better team and deserved something from the game. In the end, it was a story of two goalkeepers. It's brutal to say, but it's evidence that winning the title by 2028 will need a different person between the posts. Danyal: For the first time in a while, it was a strange feeling after defeat. We played well and should've probably taken at least a point from this game! The new signings have definitely showed why they were brought in, but we still need to strengthen that midfield before the window closes - otherwise it will always be a mismatch. Regardless, let's move on to the next match. This is a long season but the signs are there. Jonathan: United were superb. Huge improvements from the ineptitude of last season. Terrible from our keeper, although could have been a foul. Arsenal got very lucky - particularly with the obvious penalty for Cunha. Better days are definitely ahead. We all need to hold our nerve and back our charismatic and capable manager. Arsenal fans Matt: Don't judge too soon - only look at the league after the first seven or eight games. Better to start slow while picking up points than peak too early. Martinelli offers little threat and Saka still hasn't hit his best form since his return from injury last season. But we'll come good. June: Same old, same old. If Gyokeres is going to play up front they have to change the way they get the ball to him. He needs balls he can run on to because he's a proper centre-forward. He's not going to come to get the ball so they have to deliver it. Kevin: All in all, a good result. Three points at Old Trafford is never easy. Saka and Martinelli are under-performing and becoming very predictable. We need to adapt to the strengths of our new players. But I still feel very optimistic for the future. It's early days yet but I can see the potential, especially with young players like Max Dowman coming through.
