‘Heartwarming' Sam Ryder sings with critically ill children at Disneyland Paris
Ahead of the performance on Saturday, the children joined Ryder at the AIR Studios in Hampstead, London, to rehearse the song Viva La Musique, before going on to perform in France at the theme park.

Jax Morris, who was diagnosed at the age of two with a rare genetic blood disease and lives in North Ayrshire, Scotland and Kent-based Molly Townsend-Blazier, who was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia, were among those performing.

The two nine-year-olds were joined by Habiba Konate Naim, 13, from Greater London, who is living with genetic condition Williams Syndrome and has had a life-saving kidney transplant, and Eve Wilson, 16, from the south coast of England, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour.
'Singing with these amazing kids was honestly one of the most meaningful and heartwarming things I've ever done,' Ryder said.
'They met as strangers, and it was a joy to watch them become friends as we bonded over the power of music and singing. The whole experience was so pure, and it's been a real honour that I will cherish forever.'

The Make-A-Wish UK supporter said the charity is 'the best of humanity.'
He added: 'It transcends everything – politics, beliefs, all of it. It's only good. It brings out the best in everyone, and I just feel so lucky to be around that energy.'
Ryder said that 'getting to meet and hang out a few weeks' while rehearsing with the children helped break 'the ice so we could just sing, dance, and enjoy the moment together'.
He said: 'The main thing was making sure it felt like their day, building those bonds between them.

'If music was just the backdrop for all of that, then I'm humbled and honoured to have been part of it. They're amazing people — pure beauty, honestly.'
The performance in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle at the launch of the Disney Music Festival came ahead of World Wish Day – which takes place on Tuesday – and was a collaboration between Disneyland Paris, charity Make-A-Wish and Ryder.

Eve recently received a place at dance college, ahead of her GCSEs, and said her 'dream's always been to perform at Disney, and it's happening'.
Molly's father Ian said: 'At first, we thought we only had months with her.

'We had to wait a week for further tests, and eventually they confirmed it was leukaemia. It's been a challenging journey over the last two and a half, three years, with quite intensified chemo every day.'
When Jax was four, he underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant and then had complications, viruses and autoimmune encephalitis, which the NHS says is a serious condition leading to swelling of the brain.
This caused brain trauma and mobility impairments, but he is determined to try to walk again, and is still in and out of hospital, according to the charity.
Disney and Make-A-Wish have worked together for 45 years, bringing children more than 165,000 wishes around the world and some 20,000 at Disneyland Paris.

Ryder represented the UK at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, coming second with the single Space Man.
He was nominated for an outstanding original music and lyrics Emmy in 2023 for co-writing Fought & Lost, featuring Queen guitarist Sir Brian May, for the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso.

Last St John Ambulance marching band threatened with eviction
Britain's last St John Ambulance marching band faces eviction as the charity's head office cuts costs. The band, based on Kent's Isle of Sheppey, has until next month to find a new home after the organisation moved to cut its property portfolio by three quarters. The musicians have met to practice at their current meeting hall, in Halfway on the Isle of Sheppey, for 50 years. But the group only has eight weeks to find another venue or raise funds to buy the property. Now, it has written a letter to the charity's patron – the King – in an effort to save its hut. Ben Pointing, 43, the band's spokesman and a drummer for the ensemble, said: 'The last remaining St John Ambulance marching band in the UK is being forced out of its home. 'Our building at Halfway was gifted by Lord Harris in 1974 and built with funds raised by the community. 'Now it is being sold by St John Ambulance HQ in London as part of a nationwide 75 per cent reduction of its properties.' The band, established in 1946, is about to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Cadets and adult volunteers also provide first-aid services for island events. Another band member, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of being suspended by the charity, said: 'It's a vital service. We live in a deprived area and we get incredible support from our community. 'We just want them to engage with us. There is a lot of financial pressure, which we understand, but there is always a solution that works for all. 'We are all volunteers – we give up our lives for this and this is the sort of respect we get at the moment. 'It's horrible. I have done nearly 50 years of service with this organisation and I don't think I have ever been treated so poorly... it's not always about the money; it's about the community. That's what the charity should be about.' The Isle of Sheppey premises officially closes on Aug 31, meaning the band, which has regularly played at the Lord Mayor's Show in London, now has just four weeks before it is left homeless. The band has been offered an alternative premises by the charity, more than 25 miles away in Rochester, Kent, which does not have space to house its instruments. A St John Ambulance spokesman said: 'St John Ambulance values the long-standing service and dedication of Sheppey band members, and we recognise the strong connection they have to the building that has been their home since the 1970s. 'We are strongly committed to the future of the band in the region and there has never been any suggestion the band should be disbanded. 'Our focus is on ensuring that both the band and other St John members, including our cadets and badgers, have a suitable meeting place that can continue to meet both its and the wider organisation's needs into the future. 'The decision to close the building took a range of factors into account, including its use, condition, running costs and long-term sustainability. 'This review was part of St John Ambulance's strategy to develop a high-quality estate supporting the delivery of high-quality first-aid and community services across the country.

Caitlin Riley, book specialist at Auctioneum, said: "It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are. "House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome – if ever there is a good advert for our service, it's this! This could have so easily been sent to landfill or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there. It really is a lucky survivor! "The result just goes to show the pure love for Tolkien's work. Written nearly 90 years ago, it's amazing how relevant and popular it still is. "People still want the escape; they want to delve into a fantastical world and discover new characters. Some people are clearly willing to pay large sums for the privilege. "Much like the tale within the covers – selling this has been a real adventure. "We've had hundreds of inquiries from all around the world and whilst we were expecting a certain amount of interest, we weren't quite expecting this much! It's a wonderful result, for a very special book." Including buyer's premium, which is an additional charge that the winning bidder must pay on top of the hammer price, the book totalled £52,000. It was discovered in the family library of Hubert Priestley, a famous botanist in the 1930s and brother to Antarctic explorer and geologist Sir Raymond Edward Priestley. The auction house said Priestley and Tolkien both shared mutual correspondence with author CS Lewis, as well as strong connections to the University of Oxford, meaning it is likely both men knew each other. Ms Riley said: "To think that just a few weeks ago this book was sat undiscovered on a bookshelf in a Bristol house, and has gone on to make headlines around the world, is quite incredible. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance." The Hobbit, a children's fantasy novel published in 1937, follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is joined by wizard Gandalf and the 13 dwarves of Thorin's Company in a bid to win their treasure from dragon Smaug. Peter Jackson directed the film trilogy, which starred Martin Freeman as titular hobbit Bilbo.
