The demand came after protesters in Mathura and Vrindavan urged Hindu shopkeepers and pilgrims "not to trade with the minority community". The groups also asked Muslim shop owners to "write proprietors' names on business establishments".
'In Vrindavan, both communities live together in peace and harmony'
Nagendra Maharaj, a member of
Kashi Vidvat Parishad
, an organisation that has demanded the de-linking of Muslims from Banke Bihari affairs, said they have identified shops run by them.
"We've asked them to write their names on shops, and Hindu shopkeepers to avoid working with them and not to employ people from that community," he added.
Responding to the call, Banke Bihari priest and member of the temple's administration committee, Gyanendra Kishore Goswami, said on Monday: "It is not practical. Muslims, particularly artisans and weavers, have deep-rooted contributions here. They've played a major role in weaving the dresses of Banke Bihari for decades.
Many of them have a strong belief in Banke Bihari and visit the temple too."
He told TOI: "Also, in Vrindavan, some of the crowns and bangles for the deity are made by them (Muslims)." Most of the priests and locals were in agreement with what Goswami said.
Goswami added: "Yes, those terrorists (in Pahalgam) should be punished severely and we're totally with govt. But in Vrindavan, Hindus and Muslims live together in peace and harmony."

Not far from the temple, Javed Ali, who runs a shop under the name 'Star Mukut', and was told to comply or move out, said the priests' stand has given them much needed succour. "They (the protesters) came to my shop and asked us to put the name of the proprietor on the signboard. I've been running this shop for over 20 years. My father worked here as a tailor. Whenever a customer buys things from here, I usually give them a bill receipt with my name and mobile number printed on it.
We've got nothing to hide," Ali said.
Nikhil Aggarwal, whose shop is next to Ali's, added that they've never had any problem over the years and often support each other.
Police said they were yet to receive a formal complaint in this matter.

Srinagar's Jamia Masjid locked on Eid, Mirwaiz detained
SRINAGAR: Srinagar's historic Jamia Masjid was locked and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest Saturday on Eid-ul-Adha, denying devotees the opportunity to offer prayers and provoking a backlash from many, including CM Omar Abdullah. Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which looks after the mosque management, said the gates were closed early Saturday morning and police deployed outside. Mirwaiz and Hurriyat Conference chairman Umar Farooq's family has traditionally led prayers at the mosque for generations. 'It is deeply regrettable that once again, people were not allowed to offer Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid,' Omar said. He expressed helplessness, saying law and order in J&K Union territory fell under the purview of lieutenant governor (LG) Manoj Sinha's administration. 'I have no idea on what grounds such decisions are made,' the CM said. Omar urged the authorities to trust J&K's residents, saying 'these are the same people who, after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, came forward and unequivocally condemned it'. The CM called on 'the govt' to reconsider such actions in the future, alluding probably to the administration of the Centre-appointed LG. I, too, have been detained at my home. In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world! What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,' the Mirwaiz posted on X. J&K police and home department had not issued any statement on locking of the mosque and Mirwaiz's detention. PDP president and former CM Mehbooba Mufti joined the condemnation, accusing the Omar-led govt of being 'mere spectators'. 'J&K is the only Muslim-majority region in the country, and yet it is here that a major mosque is shut down on Eid, denying people their right to offer prayers. If govt claims everything is normal in J&K, why is the Mirwaiz not allowed to offer prayers,' Mehbooba said. Asked about the restrictions, BJP functionary and J&K Waqf Board chairperson Darkshan Andrabi declined comment. 'Jamia Masjid doesn't come under Waqf Board,' she said.

UBT flays Sena over Durgadi temple visit curbs on Eid
Kalyan: Members from both Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde and UBT factions held separate protests near Durgadi fort in Kalyan on Saturday. The fort houses religious sites for both Hindus and Muslims. During Bakr Eid, Muslim worshippers gather in large numbers to pray at the fort's Idgah section. Consequently, Hindu devotees are restricted from entering the Durga temple located at the fort's front to maintain peace. On Saturday, police prevented both Sena factions from crossing the barricades near the fort. The Sena UBT's up neta Vijay Salvi criticised Shiv Sena, noting that while the Ghanta Naad movement was initiated by Anand Dighe in 1982, with deputy CM Eknath Shinde leading it for many years, the state administration has now been restricting devotee entry despite his positions as CM and deputy CM showing duplicity on Hindutva." Sena MLA Vishwanath Bhoir also criticised the administration for the restrictions on temple entry. — Pradeep Gupta
