How Maoist-affected Dantewada emerged as best performer in Class 10 boards in Chhattisgarh
DANTEWADA: Students in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada, a district long besieged by Maoists, have proven the phrase 'nothing succeeds like success' true with their incredible performance in this year's board examinations.
Dantewada topped the state in Class 10 board exams this year with an impressive 94.45 overall pass percentage. Interestingly, state capital Raipur ranked 32 among all districts with 66.24 pass percentage. Dantewada ranked 6 in Class 12 exams.
A short while ago, the district remained among the bottom five in terms of board exam results. Where fear ruled the forested terrain, academic failure was yet another worry.
Dantewada collector Kunal Dudawat told TNIE that major issues such as the lack of teachers, poor attendance, no tracking of student performance, no preparation for exams and evaluation were addressed.
"Several smart and focused strategies were adopted to improve school education," he added.
The community, schools and administration have worked together to script the story of success. The magnificent results reflect not only the hard work of students, but the consistent coordinated efforts of teachers, principals, education department and the district administration.

Amit Shah congratulates officers on anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh; says will visit state to meet jawans
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, on Saturday met and congratulated the officers responsible for the anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, which led to the killing of top Naxal leaders. Shah also said that he would be visiting Chhattisgarh soon to meet the soldiers who played a key role in the successful operations. 'Recently met the officers who played an important role in the operations conducted against Naxalism and congratulated them on the historic success of these operations. I am also eager to meet the soldiers who made these operations successful with their bravery and will soon visit Chhattisgarh and meet them,' Shah said in a post on X. He further reiterated the resolve of the PM Modi-led government to free India from the 'scourge of Naxalism.' On June 6, Chief Minister Sai arrived in Delhi to brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the successful operations aimed at ending Naxalism, the way forward, and also to discuss the state's development. During his visit, CM Sai also met with Home Minister Shah and the officers responsible for the operations. In just over a month, two anti-Naxal operations have neutralised two top commanders of the banned CPI (Maoist). On June 5, officials confirmed that the body of Sudhakar (alias Gautam), a top Naxal leader, was found. On May 21, just over three weeks earlier, the body of Basava Raju was recovered. Raju was a Central Committee Politburo member and the General Secretary of the CPI (Maoist), widely known as the 'backbone of the Naxal movement.' According to officials, Gautam was a senior Maoist leader responsible for various violent incidents that resulted in the deaths of numerous innocent tribal civilians and of security personnel. His death marks a major success for the security forces and is a significant blow to the Maoist leadership, particularly in the Dandakaranya region. His neutralisation is expected to cause a considerable setback to the already weakening strength of the banned and outlawed Maoist organisation. Earlier, CM Sai saluted the jawans for their bravery in carrying out such operations. 'Operations are going on continuously, and we are achieving success. Yesterday, as well, we had a success. One Central Committee Member (CCM) was neutralised by our jawans yesterday. We salute their bravery,' he told reporters. So far in 2025, 186 Maoist cadres have been killed in counter-insurgency operations across the Bastar Range. Between 2024 and 2025, more than 403 Maoist cadres have been neutralised and their bodies recovered in the Bastar Range, following multiple encounters between Maoists and security forces, according to officials. 5 more Maoist bodies found in Bijapur's Indravati Park amid ongoing operation
Raipur: At least five more bodies of suspected Maoists, including those of two women, were recovered from the forests of Indravati National Park in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Saturday morning, amid an ongoing anti-Maoist operation. This comes after the security forces killed senior leader of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and central committee member Sudhakar in an encounter in the forests of Bijapur, and top Maoist leader Bhaskar in the Indravati National Park area in Bijapur on Thursday. 'A total of seven Maoists, including two senior leaders — Central Committee member Sudhakar alias Gautam and Telangana State Committee member Mailarapu Adelu alias Bhaskar — have been killed during a major three-day-long anti-Naxal operation,' a statement issued by the police on Saturday said. The security forces have reportedly intensified their combing and area domination operations from Thursday onwards in key Maoist stronghold areas bordering Telangana. 'On Friday, security personnel recovered the body of Sudhakar, a senior Central Committee member and a top-ranking ideologue of the CPI (Maoist). He was reportedly the secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem Division and carried a reward of ₹45 lakh ( ₹25 lakh from Chhattisgarh and ₹20 lakh from Telangana),' the statement read. The statement added that operations during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday led to the recovery of five more bodies, including those of two women, whose identities are yet to be confirmed. 'All of them are active cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist). Identification of the deceased is underway,' a police officer said. Some security personnel sustained minor injuries due to snake bites, honeybee stings, dehydration, and other field-related causes, but all injured are reported to be stable and under medical care. 'The operation — part of an intensified crackdown on Maoist presence in the National Park area — continues with ground forces conducting search and flush-out operations across the surrounding forest terrain,' the police statement added. Meanwhile, civil rights activists and the Telangana civil rights association on Saturday alleged that Chhattisgarh police had taken Maoist leaders into custody in Bijapur and were killing them one by one in staged encounters. Police, however, dismissed the allegations, stating that all actions were lawful and carried out in strict accordance with operational protocols.
