Bengaluru stampede: How further disaster was thwarted on top tiers of Chinnaswamy Stadium
1 2 Bengaluru: While pain, anguish and trauma unfolded outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium Wednesday, a potential disaster was averted by the skin of the teeth inside the stadium — thanks to the swift response of alert private security personnel and police officers. By 5pm on that fateful day, as it became clear certain stands, particularly Stand 13, were overcrowded, D Bhaskar, the managing director of Supreme Care Services, a private security agency deployed by event partner DNA, could sense trouble. "Stand 13 looked dangerous. People were jumping from the upper tier to the lower level to get a better view," Bhaskar recalled. "Some even used pillars and fences to climb down. It was a crowd unlike what we usually see during IPL matches — much more aggressive and unruly." Bhaskar, drawing on his army training and two years' experience of handling RCB match security, read the situation fast enough to realise it was spiralling out of control. "Several stands were operating at over 120% capacity. Those spectators who stood up were blocking the views of those behind, which led to pushing and jostling," he said. "I feared people could fall off the upper stands straight to the ground." Bhaskar immediately approached a senior police officer at the venue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Obtén audífonos premium sin pagar absolutamente nada Top Audifonos Undo "I must thank him — he acted without any delay. Five police officers from the VIP area were immediately told to control the situation on the upper stands. Warnings on loudspeaker Meanwhile, Bhaskar's team comprising former army personnel, used walkie-talkies and loudspeakers to warn the spectators. "We told the crowd that they were under surveillance and strict action would be taken against any unruly conduct, which instilled some fear and helped calm the situation."

Jack Adams Award triumph: Spencer Carbery made history
Image Via Twitter (Jack Adams Award Triumph:Spencer Carbery Made History) In an unprecedented milestone for NHL coaching, Spencer Carbery became the first person to be conferred with coach of the year honors in the NHL, AHL, and ECHL. If Carbery's tremendous turnaround of the Washington Capitals grabbed the headlines, then Carbery's strategic brilliance runs much deeper. From pulling off one of the biggest league-wide seasonal turnarounds to nurturing fresh-faced talent, Carbery's march to the 2024–25 Jack Adams Award has been a heavy-hitter in transformation. Spencer Carbery's complete coaching triumph and the Capitals' turnaround Spencer Carbery's sophomore year behind the Washington Capitals bench was nothing short of brilliant. The 43-year-old coach led his team to being first in both the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference while managing a staggering 20-point improvement over the previous season. The 2024–25 season saw Washington pile up 51 wins and 111 points, good enough for the fourth-best in franchise history in terms of total points, behind Presidents' Trophy seasons. To assess Carbery's impact, let us observe the offensive and defensive rankings of the Washington team. The Capitals skyrocketed from 28th in goals per game to 2nd, 3.49 being the average this season. Likewise, their goals-against also rose in stature to the top 10 of the league defensively. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Combining these measures places the Capitals in an exclusive club of seven teams to have a top-10 ranking in both scoring and preventing goals- a rare balance that speaks volumes about Carbery's coaching. Beyond the schematics, Carbery took over a transitioning club with seven new players on the opening night roster. The importance of having the group gel quickly can hardly be overstated. Nine players equaled or surpassed a career high in points, including Pierre-Luc Dubois (66 points), Jakob Chychrun (47 points), and Brandon Duhaime (21 points). This underlying excellence in performance is testimony enough to the coach's ability to get the best out of his veterans and youngsters alike. The influence went into the very grain of the nexus of critical moments in the game. Leading the league in comeback wins (25) and being tied for second on road wins were both markers of a tough team with strong mental preparation. All this set a backdrop of consistency, a +56 goal differential (amongst the highest) in the NHL, and a very effective penalty-kill, ranked fourth. Carbery's rare distinction of having coaching accolades from all three North American professional leagues makes him one of the most adaptable and forward-thinking minds in the modern era of hockey.
