MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of throwing a knife at a woman's head was released from jail on a $15,000 bond, according to the Shelby County Criminal Justice System.
Markeith Carter, 30, is charged with aggravated assault.
On May 16, officers reported being called to a home in the 1700 block of South Parkway in South Memphis. A female victim told police she got into a physical altercation with a man in the 1400 block of Ragen Street.
During the altercation, the woman says the man punched her in the body before throwing a knife at her, striking her in the head.

Officers at the scene took photos of the bleeding cut to the side of the female victim's head. The woman received treatment from paramedics with the Memphis Fire Department.
The suspect was identified through two previous domestic violence reports as Markeith Carter.
A warrant was issued for Carter's arrest the next day.
Carter was arrested and booked into jail on Monday, but was released on bond the same day. He is due back in court on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

According to police, officers were called to Children's Mercy Hospital to investigate an assault that reportedly occurred on Northwest Milrey Drive near Northwest 80th Street in the Northland. Hospital staff members told police that the baby was brought in and had life-threatening injuries. Police did not disclose how the child was hurt. One person was detained for questioning at the time. Then, on Nov. 5, 2024, the baby died as a result of the injuries, two months after he was born. The incident was being investigated as a suspicious death until detectives received an official autopsy report form the medical examiner's office in June, ruling the death a homicide. EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – The Roaring Fork School District, which stretches throughout Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties, is looking for candidates for the school director position. Their name would be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election which takes place Nov. 4. In this election, two directors will be elected and serve a four-year term representing districts A and E. To be eligible to run for the position, you need to be a resident of the director district which you would represent, and you're required to have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election. If you have been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child, you are ineligible to run for the position. If you fit the bill and would like to run, you must file a written notice of intention while also getting a nomination petition signed by a minimum 50 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the regular biennial school election. Fort Stewart Army base in Georgia has been put on lockdown following reports of an 'active shooter.' Casualties have been reported but the exact number has not yet been confirmed by officials. 'Fort Stewart is in a lockdown status due to an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area,' a post from the base said. The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. with law enforcement responding to the scene. 'Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing,' the post added. Those residing on the base were ordered the stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors, and report to the appropriate leadership. The lockdown order also extends to the Wright and Evans Army Airfield. 'We are currently assessing the situation but we can confirm an active shooter,' Lieutenant Colonel Angel Tomko told The Associated Press. Located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It's home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the Army's 3rd Infantry Division. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp reacted to the unfolding incident, writing on X: 'As we remain in close contact with law enforcement on the ground, Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by today's tragedy at Ft. Stewart. 'We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.' Congressman Buddy Carter, who represents Georgia's 1st district said he too was monitoring the situation.
