Erik ten Hag set to sell ex-Man Utd player for second time in two years
Erik ten Hag appears set to sell Matej Kovar for a second time in two years having also offloaded the goalkeeper while at Manchester United.
Dutchman Ten Hag has replaced Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen and already welcomed in new first-choice stopper Mark Flekken from Brentford. And that has led to the Bundesliga giants agreeing a deal with PSV Eindhoven for Kovar, who left Old Trafford to little fanfare in 2023 while Ten Hag was in charge.
The Czech Republic international expects to be first choice under Peter Bosz at PSV and Leverkusen will earn about £3.5m for selling him - a similar fee to what they paid United. The proposed deal also includes a sell-on clause. Club captain Lukas Hradecky and Niklas Lomb are the other goalkeepers in Ten Hag's squad.
Ten Hag has also added defender Jarell Quansah from Liverpool, though Leverkusen have seen star men Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz head to Anfield in deals worth a combined £150m.
At Old Trafford, meanwhile, an exodus is expected in the coming weeks. Ten Hag's replacement Ruben Amorim has informed five players that they do not need to report for the first day of pre-season training on Monday, allowing them time to find new clubs.
Marcus Rashford remains linked with a move abroad with Bayern Munich and Barcelona among those showing an interest after Aston Villa decided against picking up the option to make his loan a permanent deal following a mixed spell ended early by injury in the second half of last season.
Beyond Rashford, United have granted permission for four other players to NOT return for pre-season training on Monday as they seeks moves away.
Alejandro Garnacho was reportedly told he could find a new club after row over being benched for May's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

Martin Zubimendi's move to Arsenal has finally been confirmed as the Spain international signs a five-year deal with the Gunners as he departs Real Sociedad for pastures new Martin Zubimendi will wear the no.36 shirt for Arsenal after completing his move the club. Last summer's signing from Ajax made his debut in the Carabao Cup against Preston during 2024/25 and was a regular on Arsenal's bench during their Champions League campaign. It is the number Zubimendi wore when breaking through at Real Sociedad however. And the Spaniard wants to take the shirt for his debut season with the Gunners. Ismael Bennacer wore the number in 2015/16 while Emi Martinez held it for a season in 2012/13. Jonathan Djourou and Jermaine Pennant are among the first team selections to don the shirt. "Once I made the decision to leave, I set my sights on Arsenal because I think their style of play is a good fit for me," said Zubimendi upon his arrival at Arsenal. "It's a young, highly motivated and ambitious team. They have shown their potential recently, and I believe the best is yet to come. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are. Andrea [Berta] and Mikel [Arteta] took excellent care of me, leaving me with no doubts whatsoever. Revealed: Chelsea's minimum asking price for Noni Madueke after Arsenal 'agree personal terms' with forward
Arsenal are strong favourites to sign Noni Madueke from Chelsea this summer but he will not leave Stamford Bridge on the cheap. Madueke, 23, was a first-team regular under Enzo Maresca last season. He featured in 32 of Chelsea's 38 Premier League games — starting in 27 of them — and produced seven goals and three assists. However, with Liam Delap, Kendry Paez, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian all arriving ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, Chelsea are now oversubscribed in Madueke's position. Personal terms between Arsenal and Madueke have reportedly already been agreed, with journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that both parties have settled on a five-year contract until June 2030. But Arsenal are yet to have an offer for Madueke formally accepted by Chelsea. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have set a minimum asking price of £50million and hope to get significantly more than that figure. A transfer fee above £50m would deliver Chelsea a chunky profit on a player they paid £26m for when he joined from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. Madueke signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal have made no secret of their desire to recruit attacking reinforcements this summer and have also been linked with Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokeres and Rodrygo of Real Madrid. The Gunners scored 69 Premier League goals last season — 22 fewer than in the 2023-24 campaign. Madueke helped Chelsea win the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and he will be hoping to add the FIFA Club World Cup to his list of honours before he leaves. Dom deal not a bad idea as United close in on Calvert-Lewin
Another day, another forward is linked with Manchester United with widespread reports suggesting free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be snapped up by the Europa League runners-up. The England international is available after failing to sign a new deal with Everton after nine seasons at Goodison Park which promised greatness only for injuries to limit his potential. Championship winners Leeds United were keen on signing the 28-year-old last month but dropped their interest because of his wage demands and it is believed the former Toffees target man ideally wants to join a club which is involved in Europe next season. Champions League Newcastle, who are 11/2 with William Hill and bet365, would be ideal candidates as they are searching for a goalscorer to push Alexander Isak after recently missing out on Brighton forward Joao Pedro who has opted to sign for Chelsea. But moving from Merseyside to Manchester would appeal to Calvert-Lewin and Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen on the switch, especially if he can get Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia off the payroll with Rasmus Hojlund also primed to leave. Calvert-Lewin only scored three times in 26 Premier League outings last season but has previously managed double figures in back-to-back campaigns and would line up with Matheus Cunha, who has been snapped up from Wolves for £62.5million. United have offered Brentford a similar amount for Cameroon attacker Bryan Mbeumo but the Bees are holding out for at least £65million with United still monitoring the situation between Viktor Gyokeres and Amorim's former club Sporting, although Arsenal appear to hold the upper hand if negotiations develop. Calvert-Lewin's decision to run down his Everton contract and become a free agent saves money for United which can be spent elsewhere and the lure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world would satisfy his ambitions. That makes odds of 5/1 with Hills that he is wearing the famous red shirt at the start of next term difficult to ignore. Marin Cilic is enjoying a renaissance in the twilight of his career with a strong run into the second week at Wimbledon, but it is possible he will find his next rival too hot to handle. The 36-year-old has been involved in a couple of gruelling matches with a four-set victory over British hope Jack Draper followed by a similar success against Jaume Munar, who took the prized scalp of Alexander Bublik, a dark horse to win the title before a ball was hit, in the first round. Next up it's Flavio Cobolli, who has yet to drop a set, and the 22nd seed's last victory was an impressive one against No.15 seed Jakub Mensik.
