A pensioner was killed after a horror accident on a Scots road which left two other people in hospital.
The 77-year-old woman lost her life following the accident near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway.
The woman had been travelling in a red Suzuki Ignis when it was involved in a collision with a white Peugeot Partner van on the A75 near Skyreburn on Wednesday.
She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries but later died.
The 74-year-old man driving the Suzuki was not injured.
A 70-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman in the van were taken to hospital.
The accident happened at around 11.20am on Wednesday, with the road shut for nearly eight hours.
Inspector Gacin McHallum said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this difficult time.
'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we would urge anyone who saw what happened or who has dashcam footage from the area to come forward.

Police Scotland is supporting Spanish police where requested, however at this time we have no officers deployed within Spain. "There is currently no intelligence to suggest the deaths of these two men in Spain are linked to the recent criminal attacks in Scotland being investigated as part of Operation Portaledge. "Any misinformation or speculation linking the events in Spain are not helpful to the ongoing investigations in either country. There is also nothing to suggest that the shooting in Fuengirola was planned from within Scotland."

Sex beast guilty of raping woman at property in Renfrewshire
David Colquhoun will be sentenced later this month. A sex offender has been convicted of raping a woman. David Colquhoun preyed on the victim, who can't be named for legal reasons, in Renfrew, near Glasgow. The attack in the Renfrewshire burgh town took place in April 2023. He denied wrongdoing and went on trial over the incident at the High Court in Paisley. The 45-year-old was convicted today, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and sentencing, which is due to take place later this month, had been adjourned for background reports to be prepared. " David Colquhoun, 45, committed the serious sexual offence against a woman at an address in Renfrew in April, 2023. He was convicted on Tuesday, 3 June, 2025, and is due to be sentenced on Monday, 30 June." Detective Inspector Euan McMillan said: "Colquhoun is now facing the consequences of his violent, sexual attack on this woman. We acknowledge it can be difficult for victims of sexual crimes to come forward. "I would like to commend the woman for reporting Colquhoun. I hope this outcome provides her with some form of justice. We are committed to tackling all forms of sexual violence and I would urge anyone who wishes to report a crime, to come forward. "You will be fully supported by our specially trained officers and partner agencies. There is no time bar to reporting, regardless of when it happened, please contact us so we can fully investigate."

A young British holidaymaker sparked a rescue mission when he was sucked into a hole in a swimming pool in Majorca. The four-year-old's arm was sucked into the cleaning system of the swimming pool at the hotel in question, with guests looking on in horror as the child suddenly became stuck. He had put his arm into the pool's suction hole, which was not covered. The vacuum effect from the hole trapped him up to his elbow, forcing staff at the Hotel Zafiro in Can Picafort, a resort in the north of the island, to call in the emergency services. The Mirror reports paramedics arrived first at the scene but were unable to free the boy, forcing firefighters to drain the pool and then use a pneumatic drill to reach a pipe leading to the hole. The boy was given a helmet and ear protectors as they drilled down, before they eventually cut it off at the source around 30 minutes later and freed the boy. Photographs from the scene show the boy in an orange cap waiting patiently as emergency workers attempt to get him out. Police and members of the Spanish Guardia Civil were also at the scene. The boy was taken to a local clinic but thankfully did not sustain any serious injuries. An investigation into potential negligence by hotel management is now underway, local reports said. It comes after hundreds of British holidaymakers were left stranded abroad after they were hit by a series of flight cancellations due to severe weather. Some of those affected were families set to fly back to the UK from Majorca this week after jetting off to Spain for the half-term holidays - but have been hampered by delays caused by air traffic control restrictions. Airlines said the issue is out of their control. An easyJet spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, due to the impact of widespread thunderstorms across Northern Europe yesterday, some flights were unable to operate as planned. "We did all we could to minimise the impact of the weather disruption on our customers, providing options to rebook or a refund their flights as well as providing hotel accommodation and meals for these who required them. "The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and while this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused."
