MasterChef star Melissa Leong reveals surprising career move
Melissa Leong has revealed a surprising career move as she steps out from the kitchen and onto the catwalk this week.
The former MasterChef Australia star, 43, will make her runway debut at Australian Fashion Week, reported The Daily Telegraph on Saturday.
The famous foodie, who is known for turning heads with her eye-catching looks, will hit the catwalk for long-time collaborator Gary Bigeni's show Dance Bigeni, Dance.
The Sydney-based designer told the publication the collection would pay homage to movement.
'It's about showing up with confidence, in colour, in shape, in spirit – for you first,' he said.
'As someone who grew up with a disability, colour and form have always spoken loudly to me, they've been tools of joy, identity, and expression.'
Gary has a hearing disability and has worn hearing aids since birth.
It's not the first time the foodie and the fashionista have collaborated, with Gary behind many of the eye-catching ensembles she wore during MasterChef.
In fact, the designer has named two dresses after the celebrity chef.
Back in 2021, Gary renamed a hand painted tye-dyed maxi dress she wore on the show the 'Melissa' after it sold out following it's airing on the hit Channel Ten series.
Then, in 2024, Gary unveiled a new dress called the Leong, also in honour of his 'muse'.
'Melissa Leong muse wearing this bias cut silk dress hand painted by me,' Gary wrote at the time.
'All pieces are painted using dead stock to reduce wastage within the environment. Style Leong is named after Melissa Leong as a way of saying thank for your love and support over the years.'
Speaking to Refinery29 in 2022, Gary revealed he had known Melissa long before she wore his creations on the small screen.

'She's always been a big supporter and a she's a muse as well,' he said.
'She represents my [idea of] diversity - she represents real women to me and she's very authentic.'
He added: 'She's very realistic and how you see her on TV is her in real life. She's not pretending to be someone.'
Melissa left MasterChef Australia in 2023 under a cloud of suspicion about an alleged feud with her former co-host Andy Allen.
Following revelations of backstage tensions between Melissa and crew members employed by Ten's production partner Endemol Shine in 2022, came news she was no longer in the MasterChef Australia line-up.
She shocked fans when she shared news of her departure to Instagram one day before the network's 2024 Upfronts.
'The changing of the guard is one I always planned to embrace, and I'm so glad to do that on my terms, today,' Melissa wrote at the time.

I Tried the New 24-Hour Mascara Everyone's Talking About – Here's My Verdict
Dior Beauty has a long-standing reputation for turning beauty products into viral icon - just look at the now-viral lip oil that TikTok can't get enough of. But while lip products have had their moment in the spotlight, Dior's mascaras have always been a backstage staple and a true beauty editor favourite. From the runways of Fashion Week to the everyday make-up bags of professionals and beauty obsessives alike, Dior's mascara legacy is well-established. Among them, Diorshow stands as one of the most iconic mascaras in the business. But now, there's a bold new addition to the family: Diorshow Overvolume. Designed to push the drama even further, this mascara promises up to 24 hours of high-impact volume, and naturally, I had to try it the moment it landed on my desk. 1. Shop: Diorshow Overvolume Mascara Pros Long-lasting formula designed not to smudge Lifts and holds the lashes without a lash curler Buildable formula without looking clumpy Cons A bigger wand might struggle to coat lower lashes Let's start with the packaging. If a mascara could double as a designer accessory, this would be it. The sleek, leather-like finish with luxe, plush detailing feels as premium as a Dior handbag. It's the kind of product you actually want to leave out on display. But it's what's inside that truly counts - and this formula delivers. The colour is a deep, inky black that instantly adds intensity, and the texture is rich and buildable without clumping. I'll admit I usually gravitate toward fibre wands, but the chunky, petal-shaped brush surprised me - it grips and coats every single lash, making layering effortless. The original Diorshow is known for its bristle brush to create fluttery, buildable lashes - but, for those looking to amp up the drama, the newest launch needs to be on your radar. As someone constantly on the lookout for any smudging, I was impressed with the staying power of this formula compared to other mascaras on offer from the brand. For those looking to spend 24 hours wearing a bold, dramatic set of lashes, this mascara needs to make its way into your make-up bag. Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman join Australia SailGP team as co-owners
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman become co-owners of the Australia SailGP team on Thursday. The 'Deadpool & Wolverine' stars joined driver and CEO Tom Slingsby in leading the team's rebrand after several successful seasons, winning three championships in its four seasons. The team will be called the BONDS Flying Roos, with the Australian underwear company BONDS as its title partner. 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure," Reynolds and Jackman said in a joint statement released through SailGP. "Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country, as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we're writing this in our BONDS. No further questions.' It's the latest sports venture for Reynolds, who along with fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney is a co-owner of Wrexham, one of the world's oldest soccer clubs. Reynolds and McElhenney were also part of an investment group that acquired Colombian club La Equidad earlier this year. The BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team is expected to make its debut at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix starting June 7. Slingsby, an Olympic gold medalist, said in a release that Jackman and Reynolds bring 'unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of (humor) that fits perfectly with our team." "With BONDS joining as our Title Partner and the launch of the BONDS Flying Roos," Slingsby added, "we're building something distinctly Australian; a team driven by spirit, resilience, and national pride.' ___
