Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday questioned India's rise to becoming the world's fourth-largest economy, challenging the basis for celebration amid record-high unemployment and declining foreign investment.Speaking to the media, Raut pointedly remarked that in a nation where 85 crore people still rely on free food grains, such boasts ring hollow."In a country where even today, Prime Minister Modi has to provide free food grains to 85 crore poor people, where unemployment is at its highest, and foreign investment has stopped coming in, on what basis are you claiming that we have become the world's fourth-largest economy?" Sanjay Raut said.On Friday evening, addressing a press conference of the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on 'Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat 2047 ', NITI Aayog CEO, Subrahmanyam said that India has overtaken Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy.Citing data from the International Monetary Fund , the CEO of India's apex think tank stated that India's economy has reached the USD 4 trillion mark."We are the fourth-largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy. This is not my data; this is the data from the IMF. India today is larger than Japan. It's only the United States, China, and Germany which are larger, and if we stick to what is being planned, what is being thought through, it's a matter of another two to three years; we would become the third largest economy," said Subrahmanyam.Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the pressure has increased to go one notch higher in the ladder of top global economies, and it surpasses the excitement and happiness of India becoming the fourth largest economy. The Prime Minister highlighted that the goal is clear that by the year 2047, India must be a "Viksit nation" with no compromise.Addressing a public rally in Gandhinagar, the Prime Minister recalled the excitement among youth of the country when India surpassed United Kingdom, who had ruled India for over 200 years, and became the fifth largest economy.

Indian stock markets open higher, all major indices in green, Nifty around 24,700
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 5 (ANI): The Indian stock indices opened higher on Thursday despite mixed global cues. The market experts believe that the investors are buoyed by the hopes of developments in the India-US trade deal and a rate cut by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). At the opening of the trading session today, the Sensex was up 26.22 points or 0.03 per cent, at 81,024.47, and the Nifty 50 at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was up 8.65 points or 0.04 cent, at 24,628.85. The stocks of Dr Reddy's Labs, Eternal, Shriram Finance, Power Grid Corp, and Cipla were among the major gainers on the Nifty, while Tata Consumer, Nestle, Titan Company, Axis Bank, and SBI Life Insurance were losers. At the opening, all the sectoral indices are trading in the green at the NSE. On BSE, the Midcap index was up 0.3 per cent and the smallcap index was up 0.6 per cent. 'Indian markets are also sideways, with the RBI MPC meet outcome on Friday being watched closely. The consensus expectation is for a 25 bps rate cut by an accommodative stance positioned RBI,' said Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market expert. On the investment front, good news for the financial markets is that foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have turned net sellers in Indian stock markets for the second straight month in May. FPIs had fuelled the latest bull run in the stock market after a sharp slump. May global foreign portfolio investment (FPI) flow numbers are showing India as a top inflow destination. May inflows were led by Taiwan (USD 7.5 bn inflows), India (USDMumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 5 (ANI): 2.3 bn inflows ) and Brazil (USD 2 bn inflows) out of a total EM ex-China inflow of USD 13.3 bn in May. 'Looking at YTD FPI flows, India has seen outflows of $9.9 bn out of a total $40 bn outflow YTD from all EM ex China. The May inflows, along with the 9% fall in the US dollar index YTD, are raising hopes for a gradual revival in FPI flows to the EMs. India, which made up around a quarter of inflows YTD, should benefit from the FPI flow turnaround,' he added. Observing the market moves, Akshay Chinchalkar, Head of Research, Axis Securities, added, 'The Nifty ended higher yesterday and the India vix fell nearly 5%, which bulls would have liked to see. 24462 remains intact and that's keeping optimism alive. Should this level break, the market will most likely drop to key support at -23800. Short-term resistance sits between 24760 and 24882. Globally, stock bulls have tailwinds.' Going ahead, investors now await further updates on India-US trade deal negotiations and the RBI monetary policy outcome on Friday. Indian stock markets outperformed global markets over the past few weeks, as volatility continued to reign in global markets over possible forthcoming US reciprocal tariffs. A comfortable inflation number in India also somewhat supported the domestic equity indices. (ANI)

"'Once fear is gone, beautiful things happen': BJP MP Shashank Mani on terrorism
Washington, DC [United States], June 5 (ANI): While addressing the Indian diaspora in Washington, DC, BJP MP Shashank Mani emphasized that eliminating fear is crucial to overcoming terrorism and building a citizen-driven path to India's development. 'The core idea of terrorism is to put fear in the minds of people and once fear is eliminated, beautiful things happen... Our path to Viksit Bharat is going to be citizen-driven. We are going to do it from the bottom up.... We are bringing in a bill that will put 33% of women legislators in the Parliament next time... We apologise that this table doesn't have a woman representative... All of this can only happen if there is no fear in the people's minds...' Mani said. Highlighting the government's commitment to empowering women and citizens at all levels, Mani said removing fear is essential for progress and inclusive governance. This sentiment resonated deeply with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who recalled the harrowing moment during the recent Pahalgam terror attack when a woman, horrified after witnessing her husband's killing, screamed out -- 'kill me too,' but the terrorists refused and told her to go back and tell the story, underscoring the brutal attempt to instill fear and division that the delegation aims to overcome. Tharoor underlined the overwhelming and unconditional support India has received from US lawmakers following the attack. Speaking as part of the all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, Tharoor said the visit's main aim was to share India's ordeal and seek solidarity in the fight against terrorism. 'There's been a very wide, impressive cross-section of legislators who met us, spoken to us. I must say our purpose in coming was actually very simple. Lay out what we've been through in India in the last few weeks, with the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, and seek understanding and solidarity with us on these measures...' he said. Describing the nature of engagement, Tharoor added, 'The relationship with India matters to all these people. The strategic partnership is real. We saw it in practice... There are always things going on. In fact, when our meeting was ending at the Senate, they had to rush off to a vote. There's always something going on, but they found the time for us and they engage with us in a very positive and constructive way.' He also noted the strong bipartisan backing India received, stating, 'We came prepared for much more -- pushback or questions or even some skepticism -- we found none, there has been an unconditional support extended to us in our struggle against terrorism...' The delegation, led by Tharoor, arrived in the US on Wednesday. It includes Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, and Bhubaneswar Kalita (all from the BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora. The visit forms part of India's broader diplomatic outreach under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)

"How can global community allow continuous legitimisation of Pakistan sponsored terrorism?": Congress leader Pawan Khera
New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Thursday decried the 'continuous legitimisation of Pakistan sponsored terrorism' by the international community, highlighting that while India carried out Operation Sindoor, Pakistan is getting multiple loans, also getting to chair the UNSC Taliban Sanctions Committee and be vice chair of UNSC Counter Terrorism Committee. Khera also said that loans to Pakistan and its role in the UNS committee also reflect on India's 'foreign policy collapse.' Khera highlighted that Pakistan has received a USD 1 billion loan by International Monetary Fund (IMF) on May 9; USD 40 billion from World Bank on under the Country Partnership Framework (CPF); and recently on June 4 A USD 800 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). 'And on June 4 Pakistan gets elected as Chairman of UNSC Taliban Sanctions Committee and Vice Chairman of UNSC Counter Terrorism Committee. Of course, this is the sad story of our own foreign policy collapse but how can the global community allow this continuous legitimisation of sponsorship of terrorism by Pakistan,' Khera said in a post on X. Pakistan is set to chair the United Nations Security Council's Taliban Sanctions Committee in 2025, which is responsible for enforcing sanctions, asset freezes, travel bans and arms embargo against people or organisations which are associated with the Taliban. Pakistan will also serve as the vice-chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee this year, which was established after the September 11 attacks in the US, which looks to implement various measures to counter terrorist activities across the world. Earlier today, all party delegation member and former Indian envoy to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu also questioned Pakistan's credibility in chairing the UNSC committee. 'On the UN, it also implies how seriously Pakistan will take terrorism, especially when such a responsible position they are given. A very high-power parliamentary delegation led by Mr Bhutto is here - how much authority and power the Generals or Marshal side has given to them?' Sandhu said. Sandhu is part of the all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor which is currently in US as part of a diplomatic outreach to put forward India's stance against terrorism. At the same time, Pakistan has also sent a delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto, where he addressed a briefing at the UN headquarters in New York. (ANI)
