East Hollywood nightclub crash suspect remains jailed on $37 million bail
Fernando Ramirez, of San Clemente, is charged with 37 counts of attempted murder and 37 counts of assault with a deadly weapon for the July 19 incident, which police described as intentional. Ramirez allegedly made a U-turn on Santa Monica Boulevard around 2 a.m. and plowed his Nissan Versa into a large group of people standing outside The Vermont Hollywood club.
Bystanders pulled Ramirez out of his car after the crash and physically attacked him; one person shot him in the back.
Prosecutors said that 37 people were injured in the crash and eight suffered "great bodily injury." The District Attorney's Office said at the time of the nightclub incident, Ramirez was out on bail for a separate case. He also has a pending case of domestic violence out of Orange County, according to the DA's Office.
Los Angeles Police Department officers are searching for the person who shot Ramirez after he had crashed into the crowd.
"Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time," Vermont Hollywood posted on social media the day of the crash.
"We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the first responders for their swift and compassionate action in assisting those affected."

Persistent store manager helps police arrest armed robbery suspect in Worcester
A Worcester man has been arrested for armed robbery after allegedly threatening a liquor store clerk with a handgun. A persistent store manager is being credited for leading police to him. "I saw someone that looked a little rough walking and wandering," said Mohamed Abdel-Mawla, manager of a Worcester Price Chopper, who had just given an employee a ride to work when he saw suspicious activity at Boston Liquor store next door. "When he was walking into the liquor store, he had that bag in his right hand, and he pulled a gun and he opened the door with his left hand slowly," said Abdel-Mawla. Worcester police said 36-year-old Liam Chagnon was getting nips and cigarettes when he suddenly threatened the liquor store clerk with a handgun. A store manager who did not want to be identified spoke with WBZ-TV. "It was really bad because it was his first time he had ever saw a gun," the manager said. "He was scared, very scared." The clerk can be heard on surveillance saying, "I got you", and is seen nervously bagging the items while facing the gun. Mohamed Abdel-Mawla called 911 and then followed Chagnon as he made his way down the shopping plaza with a police dispatcher on the line. "He was walking by the stores, kind of walking fast, sweating, shaking a little bit here and there," Abdel-Mawla said. He was worried Chagnon would even go into Price Chopper armed, but the suspect, he says, made his way to Ted's Pizza where he was seen trying to open a locked door. Abdel-Mawla was still watching from a distance as the suspect walked a few minutes to an apartment complex where police arrived and made the arrest thanks to Abdel-Mawla's persistence. "I felt that I had to follow him to make sure that people are safe from this guy," he said. The liquor store manager says Chagnon is a regular customer who sometimes needs help, but this was different. She's grateful to Abdel-Mawla for taking such quick action. "He's very brave. It seems like he's helping everyone out here too, but I hope people will not be afraid," she said. Abdel-Mawla says he hopes he prevented something from happening. Fortunately, no one was injured, and Chagnon has been charged with armed robbery.

Saskatoon Police investigate recent suspicious death as a homicide
A suspicious death last week is now being investigated as a homicide. At about 12:40 a.m. on July 31, Saskatoon police got a report of an injured person. They were called to an address in the 300 block of Avenue J South, near Optimist Park in Saskatoon. There, responders found a 27-year-old woman dead, and it was listed as suspicious at the time. The death marks Saskatoon's 7th homicide of the year. There, a woman was trapped in the chimney of a municipal building at the City of San Fernando Recreation Center, according to NBC affiliate KNBC, ABC affiliate KABC and CBS affiliate KCAL. In a news update, the LAFD described the unidentified woman as approximately 30 years old, and said she had been found 'about three feet (36 inches) deep within a 'small chimney.'' 'Conscious and alert, she has been physically stabilized as LAFD Firefighters specially trained, equipped and certified in urban search and rescue have arrived at the scene to complete the rescue,' the department said in its update. Video footage shared by the local news outlets show emergency responders using a rope system to pull the woman out of the chimney. The LAFD issued another update, stating that the woman was taken to an area hospital in fair condition. 'She was not affiliated with the location or involved in official business,' the department said. The reason and circumstances that led the woman to get stuck in the chimney are currently unknown. The LAFD deferred questions about the woman's identity to the San Fernando Police Department. PEOPLE contacted the LAFD and the San Fernando Police Department for additional information about the incident on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Witnesses recalled the woman's behavior at the time of her predicament. Israel Olivas told KABC that the woman appeared to be "dancing" on the roof before the incident. "I come around again and I see her hands waving out the chimney," Olivas said. "She's just screaming, 'Help! Help! Help!'
