Late, late show from Las Palmas secures La Liga draw

Yahoo15-03-2025

Two goals in the last five minutes have earned Las Palmas a 2-2 home draw with Alaves and a valuable point in their fight against relegation from La Liga.
Alaves went ahead in the sixth minute on Friday when Toni Martínez beat the offside trap and thumped in a volley unmarked.
Substitute Jon Guridi made it 2-0 for the visitors after 62 minutes when he took a defence-splitting pass from Asier Villalibre and rounded the goalkeeper to side-foot home.
But an 89th-minute penalty from on-loan Wolves striker Fábio Silva and a crisp volley from Alberto Moleiro in added time rescued a draw for the home side.
It was Las Palmas' 10th league match without a win and although they will cherish the point after spending so long chasing the game, their inability to beat another relegation-threatened club was a worry for coach Diego Martinez.
"We needed to win and we didn't, but we were down 2-0 in a very chaotic match," Martinez said.
"Turning it around, not completely but getting a 2-2 draw, shows that the team is alive, that it believes, and that it keeps pushing. This point is going to be very, very important for securing our survival."
Las Palmas remain second from bottom, two points behind Leganes, Valencia and Alaves.
With Valladolid nine points adrift in last place, it's a fight to avoid one of the other two relegation spots.

Minor given one-year stadium ban after racist abuse of Barcelona's Lamine Yamal in El Clasico

A minor has been given a one-year stadium ban for directing racist abuse towards Barcelona's Lamine Yamal during El Clasico in October. The individual has also been given '30 hours of socio-educational tasks', according to La Liga. Videos from the game on social media appeared to show Yamal, 17, being subjected to racist abuse from Real Madrid fans in the stands at the Bernabeu while preparing to take a corner and after his goal in Barca's 4-0 win against rivals Real Madrid. Advertisement La Liga also reported instances of alleged racist abuse towards Barcelona's Raphinha and Ansu Fati to the national police. Barcelona, Madrid and La Liga all condemned the abuse, with the league adding that it would 'request lip expertise on the reported images in order to identify the insults made' against Yamal, Raphinha and Fati. Three people were subsequently arrested in November for what La Liga described as 'violating the dignity and moral integrity of two footballers'. In a statement on Tuesday, La Liga said: 'The minor identified, following the complaint by La Liga as one of the perpetrators of the racist insults, has admitted the facts and accepted, within the framework of the proceedings of the Office of the Public Prosecution for Minors, the imposition of 30 hours of socio-educational tasks.' The individual is prohibited from entering 'any of the stadiums where official football competitions are held for a period of one year'. La Liga also requested that the individual provide a written apology to Yamal. Madrid confirmed after the game that it had identified those responsible for the 'deplorable and despicable insults' before 'appropriate disciplinary and judicial action can be taken.' Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, who has also been subjected to racist abuse in Spain, condemned the incident on social media. — Vini Jr. (@vinijr) October 27, 2024 'Real Madrid strongly condemns any kind of behaviour involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium,' the club said in a statement at the time. Last month, five supporters were given suspended prison sentences and fined for racist chants directed at Vinicius Jr during a match against Real Valladolid in a landmark ruling that saw the individuals convicted of a hate crime. It was the first time that racist chanting in a stadium had met this definition in a Spanish court. ()

Report – Inter Milan Tightening The Noose On Highly-Rated Valencia Defender As Total Agreement Looms

Report – Inter Milan Tightening The Noose On Highly-Rated Valencia Defender As Total Agreement Looms Inter Milan have accelerated their pursuit of highly-rated Valencia center-back Cristhian Mosquera in recent days. Per Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, they're on the verge of agreeing on personal terms with the player. Advertisement It would be a first step toward bringing the 20-year-old to San Siro. However, finding an agreement with Valencia could prove rather tricky. Despite Mosquera's expiring contract, the Spaniards are keen to keep hold of their prized asset. The defender's deal runs out next summer, which puts Los Che in a precarious position. Meanwhile, the Mestalla outfit will reportedly ask for approximately €20 million to sanction a deal. Advertisement However, the Italians may try to drive the price down and secure more favorable terms. With Mosquera unwilling to stay, Valencia may have no choice but to drop their demands. Otherwise, they will need to run the risk of losing him on a free transfer in 12 months.

Celta Vigo to close goalkeeper signing today

La Liga outfit Celta Vigo are all set to close a deal for a fresh addition to the club's goalkeeper ranks. This comes amid confirmation that free agent Ionat Radu will imminently be unveiled as the latest addition to the Celestes' squad. Advertisement Shot-stopper Radu for his part spent the 2nd half of this season plying his trade in Italy, with Venezia. After Inter Milan agreed to allow the Romanian to depart on a permanent basis, Radu went on to pen a short-term deal with fellow Serie A outfit Venezia. And the 28-year-old's ensuing performances evidently proved enough to convince those behind the scenes at the aforementioned Celta Vigo of his talents. This comes amid confirmation that Radu is on the verge of sealing a move to Balaídos. As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano early this week: 'Ionut Radu signs in today as new Celta Vigo goalkeeper on four year deal valid until June 2029.' Conor Laird – GSFN
