Edmonton's Royal Mayfair Golf Club to host CPKC Women's Open in 2026

Golf Canada made the announcement on Wednesday morning, setting up next year's national women's championship. Royal Mayfair will hold the only LPGA Tour in Canada Aug. 17-23, 2026. Mississauga Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, Ont., is hosting this year's Women's Open Aug. 18-24. It will be the third time Royal Mayfair has hosted the event and first since LPGA Tour star and three-time Women's Open champion Lydia Ko won in 2013. Ko won back-to-back events as an amateur in 2012 and 2013 and would go on to win her third Canadian title in 2015. Royal Mayfair also hosted the championship in 2007, an event won by LPGA Tour legend Lorena Ochoa. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 16, 2025.

The Toronto Raptors are undefeated in Las Vegas, with the latest win coming 101-97 over Denver on Tuesday night. Article content That's two straight close victories now after the opening night annihilation of Chicago. Article content Article content The play of second-year guard Ja'Kobe Walter really stood out against the Nuggets, but his fellow 2024 draft classmate Ulrich Chomche — the youngest player amongst that crop — continues to impress with how far he has come compared to last summer. Article content This corner has repeated often the belief that Walter has a chance to be a really good NBA player and he has shown little in Vegas to disprove us of the notion. Article content He has averaged 18 points in 24 minutes a game (he averaged 11.6 in 24 minutes last summer), had seven steals against Denver and has also been active on the glass. Walter has been strong defensively, like most of his teammates, and looks the part of a strong two-way player. Article content About the only thing you could quibble with is that Walter hasn't shown much growth as a creator for others. He has only two assists and eight turnovers in the three games. Article content But on a team with Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram and Jakob Poeltl all able to blend play-making and scoring, in addition to the guards who can do that, we're not sure Walter will really need to do much table-setting. Article content They will need pull-up three-point shooters (Immanuel Quickley and Ingram will be keys, but they need more beyond that) and Walter was hot on those types of shots on Tuesday. He looked comfortable pulling up against Denver and that needs to continue. CFL reinstates veteran defensive lineman Shawn Lemon after gambling suspension

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Justin Tang TORONTO — Shawn Lemon can resume his CFL career. The CFL reinstated the veteran defensive lineman with conditions Wednesday. Lemon, 36, was suspended indefinitely April 24, 2024 for wagering on league games in 2021 while a member of the Calgary Stampeders, including one game in which he played. Following an appeal, an independent arbitrator upheld the suspension. 'Protecting the integrity of the play on the field is of the utmost importance and we will not tolerate players violating the CFL's match manipulation policy,' CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston said in a statement. 'Mr. Lemon's suspension, which was the longest in league history, was necessary and appropriate. 'He has taken full responsibility for his actions. He understands how wagering negatively impacts sports and has re-educated himself on league policy. He is now committed to helping other players learn from his mistake.' The reinstatement comes with specific conditions. Any future violations of the league's match manipulation policy will result in a lifetime ban. Lemon didn't immediately respond to an interview request Wednesday from The Canadian Press. Lemon, who's currently a free agent, is now eligible to sign with any team but won't be able to play immediately. Lemon must still serve a two-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy following a positive test for the banned substance Phentermine, an appetite suppressant. Suspended players cannot participate in regular-season or post-season games. It is at the club's discretion whether to allow players to participate in other team activities, such as training camp, pre-season games, practices or meetings. Lemon must complete all mandatory league education, including the CFL match manipulation policy and continue participating in counselling sessions he has been attending. The six-foot-two, 242-pound Lemon is a three-time Grey champion. The native of Charleston, S.C., began his pro career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a practice-roster player in 2011 and has spent time with every CFL team, some on multiple occasions, except Hamilton. He won Grey Cups with Calgary (2014), Toronto (2017) and Montreal (2023). Lemon also spent time with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers as well as two Arena Football League teams and another in the Indoor Football League. Lemon has recorded 262 tackles, two special-teams tackles and 102 sacks over his CFL career. He also had three interceptions, 30 forced fumbles and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
